While I can believe the 65:35 ratio, I'm having a hard time believing the 250k sales figure from Warner. If it's sold to retailers, it makes sense. Sales to consumers may actually be 150k or slightly higher. Still waiting for concrete evidence.

PS: Anyone else really annoyed by Warner's stupid menu system? Everytime a featurette ends, it goes into a section of the movie. All discs should have a title menu.

Nooo :p

Oh well, I probably didn't help the cause out too much by picking up 300 on BD too :D

Reliable source, and confirmed by editor of Hometheaterspot. So if the 250k amount is correct, it's 162.5k for Blu-ray and 87.5k for HD DVD. Nearly Double.
link? i couldn't find that post.

Those numbers are pretty bad for the ps triple considering how many are out there. Just how many ps triples does it take to sell a blu ray disk? I though they'd do about 185k.

Sales breakdown for 300 is as follows:

65% BD
35% HD

This info I received from WHV

An idustry source who wishes to remain private has told me it is 65-35 for Blu-ray.

This doesn't surprise me, but the overall sales number is much larger than I thout it would be.

I don't get it, did he just edit his post?

Oh well, I don't know what I was supposed to do with a Blu Ray trilogy anyway. :lol

PS: Anyone else really annoyed by Warner's stupid menu system? Everytime a featurette ends, it goes into a section of the movie. All discs should have a title menu.

This must be the BR version of the film. Way to go buying the inferior version just so you wouldn't have to buy a bunch of us some movies. :D

It's the same for HD DVD. I have Last Samurai on HD DVD and it does the same thing. Really stupid IMO. I remember when it happened on Last Samurai, I thought it was part of the featurette, but it kept going and I assumed I must have hit a button.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with an HD penetration that stalls in the muck the second your average consumer turns plugs his HDTV into his cable box and sees pillarboxing.

Well I have 300 on HD DVD, and you are wrong. AGAIN. Featurette ends and you're back at the menu overlay. Dammit, djk, can you get something about HD DVD right?? I'd swear you don't even own the format. First with the Samsung FUD and now this. Your Xa2 should donkey punch you every time you make an erroneous HD DVD post.

btw, I think there was some confusion about the HD 300 having the trailer for the trick r treat movie. I don't know if the Blu Ray version has it, but as far as I can tell, the HD DVD version has it. Well, sort of. It's on the dvd side of the combo disc.

I wouldn't be surprised if 300 BR version sold more than HD-DVD version, but that can't be a reliable source ._.

I don't see how a 65/35 split (which is what the HD market has been like this year) is that surprising to anyone. Congrats to WHV either way, this is a big victory for HD discs regardless.

Hmm, I was watching a feturette on 300 and when it ended it kicked me back to the featurette menu, not movie.

Did anyone notice that one of the interviews on the 300 disc seemed to be filmed at 60fps? The movements looked real smooth at least. :D

Which interview?

Personally, I think the PiP with the blue screen dailies is perhaps the best extra I've ever bothered to watch. It's fantastic how they show you the original vs enhanced, but the director's commentary adds a lot to it as well. He just uses the term "crush" too much.

I thought it was going to be a 70:30 split, so at 65:35, it is performing better than I had thought. Very nice performance considering how well 300 fits the PS3 demo. I wonder what the heck all those people with PS3's are doing?

Anybody? Am i missing much?

I was kind of surprised to see that title on his list too. May be he just likes the movie. Everyone has different tastes. One Ice Cube film that I would purchase in HD is "Friday."

Some of us have kids and no need for me to buy the movie on a DvD when there was a blu ray copy right above it.

VanMardigan

There are plenty of good kids movies on HD. You have Happy Feet yet? Ice Age?

I guess everyone has their own tastes like someone above mentioned, but that seems like an odd choice regardless.

I own all of them and the kids went and saw this movie when it was out and asked me to get it for them today too. So since they were looking forward to it I went ahead and picked it up.

That should shut people up about questioning "people's tastes."

Jebus. Cut the guy some slack. Now you'll be ragging me for importing Silent Hill on Blu-ray. :p

Quite a few people have kids (including me). What's your point? The title seemed like an odd fit in that list, so people questioned and he explained.

btw, I thought Silent Hill was already out here in the states?

My point is, there's nothing odd with him buying that movie. Not everybody buys the same films. We shouldn't have to question his tastes in the first place. It's a childish thing to do.

Yeah, Silent Hill is in the states but not in Canada. So I had to buy it through amazon.com instead of amazon.ca.

Sorry, Captain N.

I'm heading out in about a half hour and I'm trying to figure out if TMNT is a good blind buy. I've had luck with my blind buys so far (Happy Feet, 300) but I'm not sure if this one will be a wise choice for me.

Plasma of that screen size is most likely 720p natively. Any specific reason why you're watching in 1080i?

Hmm, I think 65:35 is surprisingly high towards the BD side, considering how well publicized were the advantages in extras of HDDVD version of the movie.

Seems so until you consider how there are more than a 1.2 million PS3's out there, and 300,000 HD-DVD players.

And every one of those PS3s is a possible Blu-ray player, while every one of those HD-DVD players is specifically an HD-DVD player. If even 1/4th of those PS3 owners are purchasing Blu-rays, that'd be a HUGE percentage so far as I'm concerned.

I guess all PS3s are not being used as a BD movie players, or a portion of their owners just don't care about buying movies. We knew all that already from sales of all the other movies so far.

B-b-b-but HDDVD has a standalone advantage. No one watches movies on their PStriple.

No, but I got one of the discs of Planet Earth on HD-DVD from BB Online. It's pretty sweet. Rather dry, but there is some beautiful photography. I'm hoping to pick it up on Ebay or Craig's list one day. I can't really stomach the 69.99 price.... 99.99 at some places.
