Completed a SASO run on Bangkok. It definitely felt like the hardest and "fudgiest" one to do so far. I used copious save scumming to experiment and get things working right.

I crossed the roof from 47's room, took the left door, snuck into the room with the guy that has dexi's note. Knocked out the guy in the bedroom and hid him in the corner next to the bed. Used a coin to lure the guy with the note and knocked him out as well. Then I climbed out the window and up to the recording studio, went right and knocked out the 2 guys behind the microphone booth. When cross walked around back to the booth, I lured him away and took him out there. Backtracked and did the same method you used to take out the lawyer.

I also had to to some save scumming to figure out to hide those bedroom bodies in the corner next to the bed since there's no dresser or anything to hide them. I'm going to do a clean run later without the save scumming.

Cross:
There is a hint that he will drink alcohol if he gets anxious enough - I don't know how to trigger this yet. Or, it seems like you could just take him if he's making a phone call and Dexy's not there.

Morgan:
Just drop the restaurant light fixture on him while he's sampling food.

Maybe doing the "Oops I Did It Again!" challenge makes him anxious? I was just looking at those speedrun versions of the level, and they use the light fixture in that one.

I just sniped him from the opposite building when he's walking past a window.

Yeah,
you can just start in 47's suite with the sniper, snipe the lawyer from the balcony climb the pipe up to the floor above, run behind the guards/staff, and snipe Cross in the other building through an open window.
it's easy to get spotted and getting the shot on cross is also kinda tricky, but if it's works you can snipe them both and get out in 2-3 minutes unseen.

Looked up how to do some of the challenges I had remaining, and some of these are so weird and inane. There's like three or four which are basically obscure easter eggs. Also, I haven't unlocked the challenge to take Ken Morgan to his suite even though I've done it like three times.

Did you just take him there or did you also follow his cleaning instructions?

I figured out I Will Cry If I Want To, but Tuppence a Wish, Smooth Operator and La Cucaracha were just beyond me. Ironically I never figured out Ordering In either just because I
never checked in
.

I only got On the House to unlock when I took him up the atrium back stairs - it doesn't seem to count going up the restaurant stairs. It's a bit arbitrary.

Completed a SASO run on Bangkok. It definitely felt like the hardest and "fudgiest" one to do so far. I used copious save scumming to experiment and get things working right.

1. Spawn in 47's room, go down to the outside bar, sneak around the back and through the window into Mrs Mookjai's room.
2. Wait for the exterminator and hotel staff to go into the ventilation room, and sneak outside using coins to distract the group of people there.
3. Open the door to the security hut and shoot the security footage thingy with the Kruigermeier 2-2 (it's subsonic so the guards don't hear it)
4. Sneak back inside, and go up the stairs and through the door to the first floor of the east wing.
5. Wait for the AI to cycle around such that you can get into the room where the maids are cleaning. At some point during this process I ended up picking up a wrench, which is important.
6. Knock out all the maids using coin + wrench, so you can move around more freely.
7. Go up the pipe into the room with all the recording crew, and knock out all of them with the coin and wrench (I somehow managed to sneak into the bathroom to do it, you could probably do it in the bedroom too), and pick up Dexy's note.
8. Go up the pipe into the recording studio, sneak upstairs, use the guitar to lure Dexy into Heidi's room, and knock her out get the penthouse safe combination.
8. Get the USB flash drive from the safe, and use it do lure Cross into the room with the laptop. Kill him however (you get a challenge if you do it whilst sitting in the chair) and hide his body.
9. Sneak all the way back downstairs, the same way you came, through Mrs. Mookjai's office.
10. Put the note on the reception desk and wait for Ken Morgan to pick it up, then use the outside entrance to the basement to sneak into the linen room.
11. Wait for the linen room to clear, kill Ken Morgan (challenge if you do it with the fire axe), hide his body, and escape through the basement exit.

There's probably a cleaner way? I'd be interested to know if there is. I initially thought you could probably
go across the rooftop instead of sneaking through the office, but there are too many NPCs to avoid

edit:
Just watched a video, seems like you can go across the rooftop, I didn't know about the other door

I posted this earlier but this is how I did it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zj5VH6RBYPk

Poison Ken Morgan. Pick up sniper in 47's room, sneak to the very top floor. Snipe Cross in a VERY particular spot and then SPRINT to the exit before his body is discovered.

Anyone else noticed how Bangkok had a 'mmo scaling' feel?

like every space is 2x longer or wider or both. didn't feel this much in the other levels.

maybe that is just how fancy hotels are in bangkok.

Yeah they're tough. I think it's because they're so specific. I really enjoyed the Bangkok escalation because it lets you be very creative in that you can use any method basically.

I wont have bangkok for a few more days.
I feel like some of the objectives are ludicrous.

How am i supposed to kill a chick with the battle axe in the 47 suit across the manion full of people lol

Also its bullshit that you have to be online to complete challenges and do escalations.

Christ escalations are hard. Which is the easiest to start with?

The battle axe one was created by a speedrunner and definitely for experienced players only.

The absolute easiest are The Osterman Mosaic and The Marsden Isotopy. These are deliberately designed to be finishable in 5 minutes (which is actually the final complication in both).

There's also a battle axe pretty close to her. You should be able to get to her
when she goes to the bathroom
without getting seen.

Assuming I'm thinking of the right one.

The escalation names crack me up lmao. They all sound like really crappy serious melodramatic science fiction novels.

For the battle axe one I just said fuck it and went full massacre mode past stage 3
Game couldn't handle it and crashed every stage at least twice

Poison on Morgan is the correct way to start - once thats done, you can actually navigate all the way up to the penthouse without having to do anything clever apart from good timing (go across the atrium, through the room with the shisha, side room, up drainpipe, then work your way around the recording level to the set of stairs on the opposite side, then go and hide in Cross' room. Then just wait until he comes near his room to mess with his phone to lure him in - I used a fire extinguisher and the katana. Then just retrace the steps back to the clear.

It takes a few goes to get the timing down - getting from the atrium door to the drainpipe is only doable within a window of a few seconds, but once you nail it once its easy.

Lol that's the hardest escalation in the game. Try, like, any other.

Guards are allowed to walk around with all weapons, included axes and swords. Nothing beats walking around Paris holding a sword, like thats a normal security guard weapon.

Just don't point your weapon at anyone, that will trigger the alerts.

I didnt realize guards could carry battle axes lol

Marrakesh diplomat driving me nuts. He has a soldier with him so I wait til they both go to a hidden corner, eliminate both, get an unnoticed kill and immediately the soldier dudes turn hostile. They were completely oblivious to me beforehand.

I can confirm for Tuppence in Bangkok that
you just need to throw 13 coins into the fountain, don't have to land on rocks and stuff. You can get at least 16 coins before you try it. 3 in the laundry room, 1 in the vending machine outside it, 4 in the messy landing on the 1st floor towards rock star guy, 1 in the lawn on west end by yoga guy, a few in room 208.

100% challenges done for Bangkok, that was actually the fastest one for me.

Seriously? That was exactly what I thought, after
3 for Sapienza and 6 for Marrakesh
. But I tried it while I had
15 coins in total
and it just didn't work.

Still, that makes more sense than the tortured explanations the internet has come up with.

I'm definitely going to get 100% challenges for the first time on this episode. It feels efficient because it's so compact.

I just did the Bangkok escalation. One of my favorites so far and I have done almost all of them. Highly recommend you guys try it out when you get the chance!

This game is so great. I thought I would just beat a mission once or twice and stop playing the levels but I keep going back to do the different challenges and level up and it's really fun every time

Apologies as I'm certain this has been asked, but how is this Hitman compared with Absolution? That was the first that I was really able to get through but I could see where the levels had their limitations. On the fence about this new one, despite watching the GB coverage that has me cracking up.. $70CDN is an investment.

It's like IO played Absolution and went like "we done fucked up" then went back and played Blood Money and said "we should make another one of these".

Is it possible to keep Cross's body hidden indefinitely in the
recording booth
?

I thought I could just
shoot him from behind as he goes in and let the door close behind him
for SASO, but eventually the body randomly gets seen.

Spent the last hour or so messing around with the Lupei Sensitivity in Marrakesh. Having serious trouble hacking the laptop in the photocopy room with all the people.

For instance in this video:
https://youtu.be/9uWx794Sbg4?t=384

At 6:26 he's hacking it while the guard is facing the wall, the janitor is away and the guy sitting is looking at the table. But when I try to replicate that the guy looking at the table keeps moving his head and somehow sees me and alert's the security guard. Not sure if the physics are different between platforms or patches, but there has to be an easier more sure-fire way to hack the computer unseen every time?

Unfortunately, that video was from before the Summer Bonus Episode patch in July - which deliberately made this a huge pain in the ass.

After the patch, NPCs now randomly turn their heads left and right. It's no longer possible to guarantee not being seen in that escalation at that particular time. Now it really does come down to either luck or having no one standing nearby.

Earlier this month they released The Eccleston Illumination, with another laptop hacking objective. This one actually lets you start standing next to the laptop - almost as though they expected you to restart until you get a run where no one turns their head the wrong way.

(If you're going for speed, anyway - you can also wait for people to leave the room. But the laptop hacking objective was level 2 and I really didn't want to repeat that four times.)

(And yes, there are more escalations now where my old strategies are broken because of this.)

Well, considering the recordings booth is right in the middle of a busy recording studio it kinda makes sense that people would notice the singer never left the recording booth, right?

A surefire way to do SASO is by infiltrating the penthouse and attracting Jordan's attention from inside the room with the guitar. No one ever goes there and you can hide his body in a closet.

Seems like some of the AI triggers are pretty broken. Lots of things like opportunities not continuing properly or AI cycles being interrupted and then not starting again. Thailand feels like it needs a patch to get these things on track.

If it helps, Hitman speedrunners caught onto this pretty quickly and are trying to make the case against this feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P52b_O-fcPA No idea where things will go from here, though.

The next thing I'm going to try is
drag him out of the booth and into the bathroom, after applying some distractions
.

I noticed that Ken Morgan would abruptly skip events if you moved too far away from him - skip eating, skip taking his message, and so on. It feels like some kind of compromise mechanic to avoid players missing events.

I've been standing a few feet from Ken and he won't take the message. Have to restart the mission from the beginning.

Are you not supposed to take the keycard to your room from the receptionist?

I talked to the guy and he placed the keycard on the table but it was on the far side so I had to run to their little area then got a trespassing alert or whatever just to take the damn keycard lol.

When I got to the room, the Bellhop opened the door for me so I'm confused as hell right now.

Placement of the keycard seems to be really difficult for some reason. On my first try I had to wiggle 47 about a bit until he was in the right spot to grab it but on subsequent runs the guy seemed to place it much closer to 47 than he did the first time.

You'll need the card if you ever want to get back into 47's room after leaving it, though there's really no reason to unless you hide a body in there and want to get the disguise again.

For spelunky,
the coins have to hit the water fountain wall and bounce into the water part. If they bounce out they don't count, but you can just pick them up and rethrow them. I did that with 13 coins, 3-4 landed outside but I just picked them up and threw them back in the middle and got the challenge done. No rocks hit. This was on PC though.

SA/SO is really easy this time around since you can poison/accident Morgan and sniper the singer from a few different spots. If you sniper, you just have to get out of the level before the body is found. Sneaking up to the recording area in suit is possible but its a right pain in the ass.

I actually checked
whether all the coins were in the fountain or not
. Oh well, clearly I screwed up somewhere.

I just finished my SA/SO run where I sneak into the studio. It doesn't seem too bad at all!
Into the door across from your suite, diagonally across the roof past the gardeners, past the two guys on the floor, behind the shisha pipe guys, up the pipe, then through the bathroom and you're directly behind the recording booth. And I don't go any further - I knock out the two guys and drag them into the bathroom, which leaves me with time left over before Cross comes by and I drag him into the bathroom.

Obviously this is slower than the sniper routes, but I'm going to see how fast I can do this one. Wasted a lot of time because I wanted to knock out my last challenge (axe in the linen room).

What poison? Can you lethal or does that count as a non-accident body found?

Yep, all it's wider than in a real hotel. It's a gameplaly concession, let's remind ourselves this is a stealth game. That way sometimes you can avoid being discovered when you have to cross a corridor with a white dot in it.

Well that's pretty bullshit.

You mean it's pretty good. The game was too easy as it was. Hell, in BM it was even harder.

You can take it from your side, but it's true it's harder than it should be, try moving slightly to the left or to the light and searching for the interaction point.

Since the last patch you can use lethal poison without it counting.
Going and eating food is pretty much the first thing Morgan does on starting the level, so this is a super quick and easy kill

Yeah I also noticed broken AI recently when doing stuff in Marrakesh. Like the general or other soldiers would get stuck walking in place on the stairs or when I hit the fire alarm in the embassy the AI just freaks and has no idea who to react with some NPC groups. Never noticed AI problems like this in Paris/Sapienza.

You mean it's pretty good. The game was too easy as it was. Hell, in BM it was even harder.

No it's not pretty good if it breaks previous missions in the game because they weren't designed around it, like that escalation and I'd assume others. Suddenly prior missions built before the design come down to random luck and what's more fun than a 1 attempt escalation / elusive than randomness?
