HP deal is back (i7-6700, GTX 980Ti, 16GB, 2TB, 500W) for $1127 with coupon

I bought the HDD model, what should I do if I want to add a Flash/SSD drive? Is there enough room inside the case to keep the HDD connected as a secondary drive, and to install Windows on the SSD?

Mine arrived today. Came home from picking my daughter up at school right as FedEx guy was leaving a "sorry we missed you" hang tag. Whew. Made it just in time! Excited to set her up tonight.

Congrats, Christian...it all makes sense now! Glad you finally got your face-melting rig.

Funny that I had no idea this existed until tonight and actually ended up impulse buying one of these as well :) it really was a great deal. Now I am VR ready like Cannata and also do not have a VR headset (like Cannata).

I took the plunge, Ordered it from Toronto Canada, it's being shipped to my cousin's place in New Jersey! PayPal paid and all!

Refurbished 980ti cards are going for $800 plus tax Canadian on Neuegg sooo...

Mine arrived today, typing this from it now.

Uninstalled all the crap I could find on there. Wasn't as much as I thought.

No games yet, gotta open it up and transfer my HDD after work tomorrow.

Uninstalled Mcaffee, Dropbox, a bunch of other apps it had installed, some HP Welcome thing. I left the other HP apps for now but if i notice them running or doing annoying popups I'll nuke them.

Kept Office365 as i have a sub for that.

For those of you using this to make the jump from consoles to PC, what games are you gonna scoop up first and what are you looking forward to?

I'm going to get Squad and The Witcher 3. Not sure what else is coming to get pumped about.

Additional Question. Does this setup provide the ability to grab a different MOBO and 980ti and upgrade in the future? I know I'm going to be good for a while, just wondering really.

Squad is a good game but still needs some work. Devs seem on the ball tho.

I would recommend arma 3 without hesitation. It's an out and out pc game and has a shit ton of mods. Pick it up on sale when you can!

Witcher 3 also looks super sweet on PC :)

Squad is awesome, good support and a healthy and helpful community.

Arma 3 is awesome.

Huh, I see this tread pop up a lot, interesting deal. I can see people regretting not having the K version of the CPU down the road though.

Edit: fuck!! ^ right after I post mine, I see above.

Should I revise my order? And get the K version? Been approximately 2.5 hours since I submitted it.

Crazy! One of me Ex coworkers is the lead artist on Squad, he's super talented. I even told him about GAF. This was over a year ago though. Before Steam even green lit it.

Anyway, I'm kinda Worried now that I Cheaped out and didn't spend the extra 100 bucks to get the 6700k, guys? I do want to be future proof, I do want the VRs maybe a year, year and a half down the road. Should I try to get a hold of customer service and swap the 6700 with a 6700k (pull a last minute complication?)
I don't plan on OCing. I just want a good, stable powerful CPU. Hmm did I make the right choice with the lesser of the two? Is the i7 6700 a decent CPU on its own?

The K version isn't faster on its own so if you don't want to overclock it makes no difference.

While this is true, you might want to overlock down the road sometime later. Because it's just so easy to overclock, that you will regret it when the time comes. Overlocking the K version will be much much cheaper then the difference of the price of a new CPU with the same speed they sell.

But then again, unless overclocked, the K versions will be not worth it

Edit: It seems 6700k comes abit overclocked right out of the box. This alone makes it worth the price difference.

Well the 6700 is 3.4GHz while the 6700K is 4GHz, so it is faster clock out of the box, no? I do want to future proof this baby. I can afford the extra $100 I guess. Even though I am kinda going quite over my budget with this thing. I'm a humble gamer. I don't plan on upgrading this thing for the next 5 years at least. Maybe I should opt for the 6700K eh?

Considering my last (current) "gaming" PC I have is still somewhat kicking after 8 years. (Since 2008) I remember I spent about the same amount on that baby as I did this one, maybe 300 bucks cheaper. But I' didn't buy (custom ordered) it back then with one of the leading GPUs of that time. I remember I got a lesser GPU even.

Correct.

If you can afford it, get it. If you change your mind on OC (which you should IMHO), you will have the option to do so.

One thing to take note is that you will need a Z board to overclock, which I don't see specified. Maybe I missed it.

Guys for those who have received it, can anybody tell me the dimensions and weight of the packaging (not the case itself).

Thinking of getting this to UAE, but not sure if the shipping costs and potential custom charges will bring up the cost to what I can build over here.

Ok so I am really regretting now, not ordering the K, I don't even know why, never been a PC enthusiasts or a tinkerer. Despite having a decent custom built machine for 8 years now. (Upgraded the ram and GPU once in 8 years)

Anyway, I want to cancel my order (probably only option) and reorder it with the K. But can't do crap online. Gonna have to wait till morning to call the 1-888 number, I guess.

Anyone that had to go through the same process of revising their order for this here? Can they please chime in? What's the most efficient way to deal with this? Thanks.

Edit: dang it man!! I did a mock purchase again (did all the steps of a purchase before goign to Paypal) and it is actually only costing me exactly US$74.90 more upgrading the i7 6700 to an i7 6700K (somehow the math is giving me a greater discount so it's not even costing me extra $100)

It's a no brainier, for 75 bucks more I now, totally want the "K" CPU!!!! I have to wait few more hours to call customer service, since my order is so fresh, they don't even have it registered yet in their system... when I try to cancel it online and submit my Order Number... "Not found"

Yeah, definitely change it to the K variant if you can! But the order should be easily changeable by CS before it ships.

I haven't received mine yet, but FedEx is telling me that the package is 11.8 kg (26 lbs). Not sure about the dimensions, though. The custom charges can definitely be rough.

Received mine yesterday (6700K/980Ti)... Very impressed! First thing I did was get a Founders Pack for Paragon - frame rate is typically between 100 and 110 FPS at 1080p/Epic settings. Loving it.

Got Dark Souls III also, and it's more of a meh for me. The game doesn't really look that good at highest settings. The face models are downright ugly. I guess I was thinking it would look a lot better than it actually does. Oh well - at least it runs perfectly!

Backing up a little, setup was a piece of cake. Out of box, I had to hook up an HDMI cable, a power cord, and the dongle for the wireless mouse and keyboard (protip - there is only one dongle, it works for both of the peripherals, and it's in the mouse box). After setting up Windows, which took somewhere between five and ten minutes, I was good to go.

Very pleasing to know that my Xbox One controller is plug and play and worked perfectly in both games that I played. Also, it can be used as a mouse, which is pretty neat in and of itself. Also also, the chat headset works when plugged into the controller, which was a huge bonus for me.

My only issue has been text. For whatever reason, text doesn't look sharp and the straight lines in some letters are hard to discern. I had to magnify out to 175% to get it to be perfectly legible. I'm using a 1080p TV, which might have something to do with it? It's only on the desktop though, so otherwise it's fine.

I'm extremely happy with my purchase thus far. I haven't really had a chance to dig into it and start doing some QOL stuff, but I will tonight.

Expected delivery is today. Probably mostly just going to stare forlornly out the window while refusing to go anywhere for fear of missing the delivery.

I'll uninstall any egregious software I notice, then load on steam and Dark Souls 3. I was pulling a rough 22-29 fps even on mid settings on my old laptop, looking forward to doing much better this afternoon. Ideally, I'll be pulling a solid 60fps on max settings, we'll have to see what the reality is though. I actually had to stop playing since I was so excited about the new pc, and there are no cloud saves anyway so.

Guess I'll throw up some numbers later. And of course any outstanding positive or negative impressions on build quality, etc.

Welp, I gave in! Went with the 6700k, 980ti, with a 256gb ssd and extra 1tb hdd. I guess I'll have to make sure to download MSI Afterburner to add a fan curve when it's under heavy load? Any other tips from someone who has one of these?

Also, I'm getting either the Oculus or the Vive for this thing. If I go Oculus, doesn't the software/applications have to be stored on drive c? Wouldn't that be an issue with a smaller ssd?

This fucker just arrived 10 minutes ago. First desktop I've owned in 12 years. It's pretty damn tiny for what's inside. First thing I did was open the Nvidia control panel to verify the 980ti. Feels good man.

What would be the biggest benefit of owning the K? I thought you can't OC with their motherboard and the non-K processor can already boost to 4.0 GHz.

Mine arrives tomorrow. Working From Home so I am psyched.
The extra 8 GB of Ram I ordered from Amazon to max it out (2 4GB sticks) is shown as delivered already today. I am putting it in first before even booting up.
First order of business is uninstall all the shit I do not want.
Then install my go to apps.
Then install a game and test it out.

Quick question since I have not done any gaming on Win 10 yet. It appears FRAPS is not really supported on Win 10? Is that correct? If so, what are people using to measure FPS these days? GeForce Experience or whatever it is called? Excuse the very noobish question but it has been a minute since I have played on PC, and as I said, I have not done so at all yet on Win 10.

That has happened to me before, if it's the same thing then it should fix itself in a short while. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it's gone for days on end.

Just for measuring FPS? Both Steam and Uplay have built-in counters now. I don't know about Origin.

Crazy that this is still going on. I had planned on spending a couple hundred less for a 390 build but this is once again tempting me.

Has anybody answered what the deal is with the K being clocked at 4.0 GHz if you supposedly get a board that can't do OCing?

I just think the k has a higher base clock of 4.0 GHz in this build. I might be wrong, but I think you can technically OC with this board, but the cooling solution/weak PSU probably would advise against doing that. I don't really think you'd need to OC this CPU (especially not the 6700k) unless you were trying to do some crazy hardcore shit outside of gaming like rendering/video editing.

Let us know if you can change it without cancelling the order. I'd upgrade if so. Thanks

I called and tried the online chat, back to back. Both parties said to get back to them in 3 hours or so... They are having major network problems. "System is down" this they can't do didly squat, can't even tell me if I have to cancel my order and reorder it, or if it's possible to revise the existing order to avoid later shipment date (delays)

What would be the biggest benefit of owning the K? I thought you can't OC with their motherboard and the non-K processor can already boost to 4.0 GHz.

Well like mentioned before, the none 'K' variant is 3.4 GHz clock speed, out of the box, while the K is 4.0 KHz. These numbers seem to be the only difference between the two. And excuse my ignorance in this subject but...(honest question) why is it possible to boost the 3.4 GHz CPU to 4.0 GHz like you state in your post, but not possible to boost the 'K' 4.0 GHz to something higher?

Also I really like to have an expert chime in and let us know if the Mother Board allows Over clocking on these things, that Z board talk earlier etc?? Anyone?

Also, for someone who isn't an expert in OCing and probably wouldn't be too intrested in fiddling around with OC, I rather pay the extra $75 and get that extra boost of 0.6 GHz of clock speed and keep it that way. Wouldn't that make more sense for someone like me?

At th end of the day I want this machine to play the games I bought on Steam sales for the past three years, over 50 games that are now a huge backlog. Anything from indies (which do not require too much graphical performance) to AAA titles that play like a 10 fps slide shows on my current rig. Games in the likes of The Rise of Tomb Raider, Far Cry Primal, Witcher 3, Quantum break etc. I am not planing on buying fancy monitors or TVs that can output more than 1080p anytime in the next 18 months, nor any VR devices, not until say .. Fall of 2017.

I just want a hassle free, buttery smooth, 1080p 60fps gaming experience with current games on the market and The ones coming out within the next six months. Having said all these, I do NOT want to be left behind in two years. And that's when I'll barely have the funds for the expensive VRs and 4K TVs ... That's where I want to spend my money then, and not on expensive computer parts GPUs, Ram upgrades etc.

When I go to check my order status it doesn't show up. It says to call a number if your order doesn't appear. Wtf is up with that?

Yeah their network is down. So they haven't even registered your order number in their system yet. Hence why it doesn't recognize it.

The K version is clocked at 4.0Ghz base, that's not the OC speed. It's just overall a better value over the non K version base clock of 3.4Ghz.

Thanks nice to know. Yeah it has been quite some time for me obviously. Perhaps a bit more than I even realized. I was just so used to either using FRAPS and or enabling it via the console depending on the game itself. I just like to know the FPS is in the neighborhood of what it should be and I do not obsess over what it is, so if it is built in now that should be good enough.

Just got mine in, unpacking it and I notice no recovery disc or flash drive???
IIRC, Pretty sure they charge extra for supplying recovery disks but they can be downloaded for free from their support site.
Now of course the argument can be made how you can download them if your PC needs to be recovered, but I believe they are counting on the fact someone can go to someone else's house to do that.

Got mine mid-day yesterday, having ordered it mid-day last Tuesday. Great turnaround time for this order.

Haven't played anything with it except a bunch of free games on Oculus Home. I only have a DK2 currently, but everything ran very smoothly.

For anyone besides me who is too stupid to figure out how to access the DVD-RW drive, you pull the vertical strip marked "Envy" open from right to left. It has a hinge along its left edge. (Sadly, I actually opened the case and took off the front bezel to figure this out.)

Thanks to the folks in this thread who provided all the info on this deal!

Mine came yesterday but the optical drive wasn't working. Turned out the cable wasn't plugged in to the drive. Plugged it back in for a quick fix but I was mad as fuck when it didn't work at first.

Welp! HP Customer service is indeed as terrible as people here say it is.

Sure they speak soft and are very nice to you on the phone, but they do diddly squat...

I finally got a "supervisor" on the phone and she was still useless....

It's been less than ten hours since I put in my order, not only they couldn't adjust it.

They wouldn't even let me cancel it, so I could quickly reorder what I want, they gave me a "It's a 50/50 chance we are able to cancel your order, it will take days until you get your money refunded..." yaddy yaddy yadda

"But it says under product description that I can refund or exchange within 30 days after delivery?"

"Yeeah but we can't do anything about the order, it's in our system"

Basically we cannot make any changes or help you at very early stage of your order, where no one on our end has done anything yet and it's the easiest and most convenient time for both of us, yourself and us to adjust things.. but we just wont do it... (Doesn't sound shady at all)

what a load of horse crap!

Same thing happened to me a week ago. My PC was sitting in my cart for a week or so with the 980Ti. When I ordered it, it showed up as the weakest one (because the 980Ti were out of stock) so I quickly tried to cancel my order.

I don't get how they can't do anything even 5 minutes after the order is placed. It's really dumb. I ended up having to wait 2 weeks before I got refunded so I could reorder.
