HP deal is back (i7-6700, GTX 980Ti, 16GB, 2TB, 500W) for $1127 with coupon

How future proof is this overall? Will there be substantially more powerful parts in 12 months, and if so, can they be fitted to this(mobo, cpu, ect)?

It's pretty high end currently, so it should be able to last as it ships for at least a few years (maybe longer if you want to lower a few settings). I don't think the mobo or case are very upgrade friendly, so you'd probably be looking at buying a new board and case if you ever could upgrade, probably a new PSU as well. The CPU should for sure last a long time and should be transferable, and you could sell the GPU for a pretty good recovery price to pay for your next GPU upgrade, if that's what you decide.

Thanks bud, I'm picking up the 6700 and the ti, will that let me crush most games and VR for the next year or so? Which resolution will I be able to play at for 90 fps or so (just ballpark estimation)

I'm having a difficult time resisting this!! The PS/Xbox rumors make it even worse.

My order from March 19th has shipped. Says it will be here Wednesday. Guess that means I wont cancel it now lol. Now I hope my note I will write for FedEX will be enough of a signature as I wont be home during the day.

I'm super pumped to get this. Going to sell my old rig and my X1 to subsidize my purchase a little. My only regret is getting the 3.4 ghz CPU. Can I over clock to 4.0 and be "safe". A little bit of a PC novice when it comes to that.

Unfortunately, no. Only the k variants (k) can be overclocked, I'm pretty sure. Regardless, I think even the 6700 is a great CPU that will last a long time. Improvements in CPUs have really slowed in recent years and it will almost certainly outlast the GPU in terms of lasting and acceptable performance for new games. Plus, I don't know how comfortable I would be with overclocking the CPU with the provided case/cooling system/PSU. I got the 6700k just to have the higher base clock and possibility of OCing it if I switch to a new case down the line, but I doubt I'll be doing much overclocking unless something drastically changes with new games and suddenly you need a shitton of CPU more than what current trends indicate.

You have the option for $100 to upgrade to i7-6700k from i7-6700.

Just checked out the website one last time for the day and it finally updated with a fedex tracking number, which is pretty exciting! Originally was scheduled for shipment on the 15th but it's now scheduled to arrive in my hands by the 14th, which is great news. One day late to the DS3 party, but that's a small price to pay for what is hopefully an awesome setup.

This is not a computer that's friendly for tinkerers. The case is tight and you'll have to at least swap out the PSU for one with more capacity if you add much, because the one that comes with it is sufficient but without much capacity for more. I'd like to upgrade mine to add more cooling at least, though. Because it seems to run hot, maybe because it's so cramped.

I agree with shawnbuddy.

You should probably be able to upgrade the GPU, as long as your new card doesn't use any more power or generate any more heat than a 980 Ti.

Likewise, if next year Intel releases a faster Z170 [Socket LGA 1151] compatible CPU that doesn't consume any more power or create more heat than the i7-6700/i7-6700K already installed, it will also probably work as an upgrade.

The motherboard has 4 RAM slots, and maxes out at 64 GB (link), so you're probably good there too, so long as you're ok with DDR4-2133 RAM (and possibly discarding old sticks of memory when upgrading).

Other than that, yeah the motherboard doesn't have a whole lot of expansion possibility (only 1 PCIe x1 slot free), the case is small, and the power supply is exactly enough for what the machine comes with.

Basically the machine doesn't have a lot of headroom, but that's what you get when you buy a machine this good, this cheap.

Holy shit, I literally just set up a Microcenter shopping list for a computer with this spec. It was $1700. We snapped this guy up instead.

Unexpected joy - I ordered Tuesday and just saw on the website that it's already been shipped with a delivery date of Tuesday (was originally estimated to arrive on the 25th)! Very excited!

Wow the PC I bought weeks ago that I need to return is only arriving a few days before the one I just ordered this week, according to Fedex. Already shipping info received, delivery Tuesday. Hp weird, but I'm not complaining

Sucks I still have to return the other one, when I contacted HP they said they processed a Render to Sender request to fedex. Their support has been pretty useless, they never went through with anything they said they would the entire cancellation process.

What would happen if you refused the delivery? And when is your computer with the 980 Ti arriving? (I haven't received any shipping info from the one I ordered this week yet...)

Hey gents, looks like the price may have dropped further over night. The base version with 980ti is ringing up at 1,126, about 60 cheaper than when I set it up yesterday.

My 980ti build is arriving Tuesday apparently. :3 Do you have Fedex Delivery Manager? I just saw it pop up under there.

Did you guys get an actual shipping notification from HP? I havent gotten any email from HP and I ordered back on the 20th of March.

I'm in now. This was a bit over budget for my planned PC upgrade, but the full package seems to be worth it, plus I don't have to fumble around assembling it from scratch.

It's a huge step up from my previous build. :)

Last night I hadn't received an email but I checked the status page and it had shipped. This morning I received the actual email from HP stating it had shipped.

Guys I know this has been asked to death but is this:

HP Wireless 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 with Bluetooth M.2 NIC (Sanji)
No Additional Security Software
HP ENVY 750se Desktop PC
6th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K quad-core
16GB DDR4-2133 DIMM (2x8GB) RAM
Home and Home Office Insert
6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 980Ti [DL DVI-I, HDMI, DP, DP, DP]
No Secondary HDD
Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS
500W Power supply
2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6G Hard Drive

A good route to go for someone that wants a Vive and will be upgrading every year to keep High Settings/60fps?

Hey guys just a quick tip: if you don't have thin hands, adding additional SATA connectors for more drives without moving the bar will be a bitch.

Easiest way to do it: just take out the hulking black bar. It's just 2 screws and a clip on the HDD bracket holding it in place. It doesn't do anything but support the GPU. 20 seconds to remove it and it'll take no more than 10 seconds to add in your SATA cable(s).

Strongly recommended. If you don't want to be bothered taking that out, you'll need thin hands and a few minutes of patience.

I'd get an SSD primary and 1-2 TB data drive if you don't already plan on doing that yourself.

To answer your question though it's absolutely ready for Vive right now. And when Pascal comes out you can just swap the GPU as long as the power requirements match the 980Ti and there aren't heat problems.

Is it likely those power retirements will be similar?

As for adding anything else, nothing I can think of.

We really don't know at the moment. 500W itself is pretty low but the Ti is a beastly card. So if the Pascal line is more efficient, we're all golden. Swapping out the PSU really isn't a big deal though.

Awesome I'm doing it! Thanks

Anyone know of you can get the employee discount with this? Lol
You cannot. I am on the friends and family for HP because I did a guided tour of their facilities years ago, and you can even see I posted in this thread did anyone know why it was telling me my coupon code was not valid. That was why. As soon as I logged out, I could apply this deal.

In other news, mine also shipped. Just ordered last week. Should be here Thursday!!

Mine finally shipped! Due Thursday. I ordered on March 21st. Between this and Dark Souls 3, it's been a hard month or so of waiting!

As someone who knows nothing about gaming PCs, is this a PC that'll last me for a pretty good while and is it powerful enough for Vive and the Rift should I want to try VR?

Also, is this deal even available still, because I'm thinking about getting it today if it's a great deal.

The processor and video card alone are $1000 if bought separately.

This...this is actually a good deal. Wow.
Given that the case is small and the PSU is still unknown to myself, if you have a tower already and we're looking to upgrade, this seems like thing to get. I assume the mini isn't soddered on like some fell manufacturers do, so the transition so be easy.
