"I Need a New PC!" 2014 Part 1. 1080p and 60FPS is so last-gen and your 2500K is fine

Random quick question, what is a normal idle temperature for a Intel i5 3570k with a Coolermaster Hyper TX3? Mine currently idles at 41-42°C.

I ask because I just did the first dust cleaning since I build this PC last September since I noticed a lot of heat emission while playing BF4 lately. My 7970 jumped from 36°C to 38°C idle since September though that's normal I guess with the rise of the ambient temperature now that we have summer. Unfortunately I forgot to take notes at what temp the 3570k idled back then so I can't compare myself :/

EDIT: Nevermind, of course I find a old Imgur screenshot of my temps at GAF right after I post this. My CPU also seems about 1-2°C hotter than back then which seems in line with the ambient temperature rise so all seems good.

well they can always buy an 4770k

No one should be buying a 4770k right now anyway in case the base/boost clock rumors and the better TIM rumors are true for the new k cpus.

It makes the latter part of the year more interesting (and really, Sept isn't that far) given DC and Haswell-E. Still, H-E would be cool if not for the likely crappy state DDR4 will be in come launch.

Do my two fans for my video card count as separate fans? Because if so, then that would account for the fifth fan shown by speedfan. It says that fan 2 and fan 3 aren't spinning, but having checked around, the only one that isn't working is the rear one.

(For some reason, imgur rotated my pictures)

This fan runs fine.
KwDUoTn.jpg

Another shot of the main interior.

It seems to be just this rear fan that doesn't spin.

My GPU died recently and I decided to put together a new build. I finished everything this past weekend but I couldn't get anything to the display. I have built and modified many systems in the past. Below is a list of my parts and a basic description of what is happening:

...

I ordered another motherboard (ASUS Z87 Hero) and RMA'd the MSI. I have had good luck with ASUS motherboards in the past. If this doesn't work, the CPU is next. This is one of the worst possible things that can happen after a new build and I have had a really disappointing and frustrating weekend. Any additional help or guidance anyone can provide would be much appreciated!

Just an update on this issue but the problem turned out to be the motherboard as suspected. I installed the new motherboard (ASUS Maximus VI Hero) and everything booted up perfectly on the first try. Very happy with the new system.

I edited the details out of the quote for length but you can click the link for the full post. Maybe this will help someone else if they run into a similar problem in the future.

If you can wait it's better and you probably gonna have better deal in your parts if you cant well go with an i5 or i7

Can you wait till september? That's really the question? Basically do you want the PC this summer or not?

It isn't the Pro's fault that the GPU manufacturers released the same cards two years in a row under different names and charged a ridiculous premium for the two more gigs of ram.

Yes if I were nVidia I would be worried right now. They're selling high end cards that cost a lot of money with only 3gb of ram which may or may not be enough for next gen gaming. And this is at 1080p lol

Just a quick question: Do you think this dongle would work for a wireless connection to a DS3 via MotionJoy?

http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002QF34CS/

I can't say for sure, but I have a really old BT dongle and it works fine.

I would switch from Motionjoy to the Xinput Wrapper, though. Motionjoy is a bit notorious for having unscrupulous things going on in the background, and overall, is fairly unstable to boot. Xinput Wrapper is fairly easy to get running, and I've never had any issue with it afterwards.

this might be a stupid question but when people say their is no SLI profile for a game, why does my two cards show 90-99% usage ?

I just knew it! I'm so glad that I didn't listen to the "pros". I bought a GTX770 with 4GB and I was right.

Man the amount of fail in this post is immense. Your card cannot even play the game on the settings he is talking about. It will be absolutely crushed before it needs 4GB. Not only that, I'm glad to see one resource hog of a game (from Ubisoft no less) validates that 4GB is completely necessary hahaha.

Edit: To clairify I mean it will be crushed when you move the game "past 1080p and add MSAA or TXAA". 1600p and beyond is are the resolutions >2GB really matters.
Titanfall as well.
I don't know what you're talking about seeing as I completely max the game with 2GB of VRAM.

BS.

I can play the game @Ultra 1080p with MSAA.

There is no more retarded an arbitrary setting than Insane textures in Titanfall. Instead of dynamically changing the texture fidelity based on proximity to the player, as the Very High setting below it does, it sets all textures in the players field of view to maximum fidelity at all times. Even those way off in the distance that are indiscernible. Using it as an example in this context is a pretty funny gag.

Yes, and so can 2GB GPU's, even running beta drivers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8buqHRobC4c

Geese what I'm saying is besides a resource hog of a game here of there, before 4GB cards will become required your card will be crushed. Instead of spending extra money on the card so you can "completely" max out one or two more games. What we're advocating is saving the money and upgrading to a much better GPU with most likely more than 4GB of ram a couple years down the line when it actually matters. That's what the "pros" are saying. To think MKenyon or Haz don't know what they are talking about is pretty god damn hilarious.

Oh god the watch dogs thread is spilling into here. My 3GB 780ti chews up and spits out every game I've ever thrown at it, at 1440p no less. I'm interested to see how it fares with Watch Dogs tonight.

Real question now.

A while back I was convinced that my PSU was failing. I've replaced it, gone to default settings on mobo, and my system still crashes about 10 minutes after a boot. After some playing around with my system, I noticed it won't crash if I boot into UEFI/BIOS first. Strange, no? Even if I don't play with the settings and just boot from there it's fine. What could be the reason for this? I'm thinking my mobo is starting to fail so this weekend when I have time I'm gonna take my rig apart (again -___-) and check for capacitor swell.

If it is my mobo though I'll probably take this opportunity to upgrade to Z97. You know, for shits and giggles.

In the youtube video, game seems to be stuttering badly. Almost gave me motion sickness.

And, why don't people run Afterburner or Precision showing fps, cpu & gpu usage, cpu & gpu ram usage and etc.

Ok I'd be very happy if someone could help me a little. My GPU broke from my old PC, and I'm building a PC myself now for the first time and I'm pretty clueless.

This is what I've got so far:

The prices are only suggestive for now since I live in Finland and I'll go through different retailers that aren't listed on the site obviously.

I'll be using the system mainly for gaming, but will of course be using it for some general usage too. Might also be doing some heavy video editing at some point.
At the moment I have my old 1080p monitor, but I'm thinking of getting another one with a higher resolution (and use the older one as the second monitor) and higher refresh rate (maybe 120 hz?).

I was waiting for June but now that things got delayed, I simply can't wait for September so I'm building now.

Any feedback on it is really welcome because while I've been trying to look up various things and I've been trying to understand everything as well as possible, I still have a strong feeling of having no clue of these things.
650W should be plenty enough by the way?

Thanks in advance to anyone bothering to give it a small thought.

seriously nice build, but with the price of the psu now and if eventually you decide to add another card in sli or oc your system i take something higher than 650 watt but that's me some would tell you ok but don't forget after 2 years the psu wont give you the same power from the wall and why no go sli ti? i don't knows the price of black but it's an expensive card might look at difference

Your powersupply should be fine, but I would go with the 750 just for some lee-way. Also, I take it price is not an issue with that build. You should try pick up a nice set of speakers to compliment your set up!

Thanks, will think about it. I've been kind of skeptical of SLI/Crossfire but I guess it's mainly because I haven't really read about it that much yet.

I'm getting second thoughts about buying a new PC this summer because everything nice (Broadwell, DDR4, Nvidia 8xx cards with hopefully more VRAM and less power usage) won't be consumer ready until a year from now at the earliest, and basically EVERYTHING out right now is 1-2 years old stagnated hardware. This isn't a simple matter of "better things always come out right around the corner", but actual huge differences in terms of longevity.

As much as it hurts to still use a CPU from Q1 2008 and a mid range graphics card from 2010, I feel like I'd heavily regret buying one now.
