Not sure where you're looking at that the EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid is $750.

So I just installed a new motherboard, processor, ram, and video card and now I can't get my computer to turn on at all. The power button literally does nothing. No fans, beeps, noises or anything.

I've been looking at this thing for hours but can't figure it out. I feel like everything is connected correctly, but this is my first time so I dont know.

Any tips or things to try?

thanks!

id be saving $200 but i feel iffy about the memory and the mobo.. i'd also like a reputable grade psu so i don't mind pay the extra cash..

i also really like the look of the mobo and ram i picked out lol

e90: i wont have enough space for that big a radiator, the 980 ti hybrid has a 120 mm and so does the corsair so im gonna play around with those to make them fit

Performance-wise it should be largely identical. I'd avoid that specific Gigabyte motherboard model you chose earlier because it appears to have issues and poor reviews (only 3/5 rating, numerous mentions of dead components or entirely dead motherboards). You definitely don't need 750 watts to power your parts, but Canadian prices being what they are, the EVGA B2 model is one of the cheapest that I'd trust that has nice features like modular cables.
Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I couldn't really pinpoint a 1151 that had great reviews and cost what I was hoping to pay. I also read those reviews and while every board has DOA reviews, the audio issues were a bit concerning. Then again, some people had no audio issues at all. As for the PSU, the EVGA gen. 1 was much cheaper but I read everywhere that those gen. 2 psus are pretty damn excellent. I might just eat the extra cost there for that peace of mind.

This is my first build since I planned out my current PC in mid-2010. So damn stressful.

Found some nice case/radiator fans that seem to skirt that line between silence and air flow.

SO DIMM 204-pin
120 GB SSD

HP Pavilion 15-ab193no
AMD Quad-Core A8
2,20 ghz, max 2,5 ghz
DDR3, 4gb ram, 1600 mhz
256 ssd
AMD Radeon R5

Acer Aspire E5-551
AMD Quad-Core A10
1,90 ghz, max 3.2 ghz
cpu cache 4mb
ddr3, 6gb, 1333ghz
1tb sata, 5400rpm
AMD Radeon R6

I'll need to know a bit more about your setup. What model of power supply do you have and how much wattage? What is your existing RAM configuration (1x4GB? 2x2GB?) and what motherboard model do you have?

I got a little trigger happy and did some extra research and found some deals that seemed reasonable.

I don't see anything wrong with the pictures you posted, but I don't know much about what parts you have. What are your PC's specs?

Let's start with the power supply. Try the paper clip test to see if it will power on by itself. If it works, then you'll have to troubleshoot the cable connections and then the motherboard.

thanks!

Feel free to change any parts, it is your PC in the end. The EVGA B2 is an excellent power supply though, there's nothing wrong with it.

Don't go with an AMD FX processor, those things are old and not very competitive with Intel processors. Here's what I recommend instead:

I'm not sure if you specifically picked that version of the NZXT S340 case because you prefer the white color, but there's a black and blue version that is cheaper at $45.

I got a little trigger happy and did some extra research and found some deals that seemed reasonable.

If you're okay with it then that's fine, but there are somewhat better deals elsewhere. For example, jet.com has a Zotac GTX 970 that is only $255 after coupon code 15NOW. Otherwise if you don't mind mail in rebates, there are slightly better GTX 970 cards available for $320 or less after rebate like the improved EVGA SSC or the MSI Gaming 4G.

Because you already have 2x2GB, you should get a second kit of 2x2GB to allow it to run in dual channel mode. However, 1x4GB will also work with your existing RAM, I'm just not entirely sure if it works in dual channel mode.

Will new DDR3 RAMs work on old P55 socket 1156 motherboards? I believe the RAMs listed in my motherboard's QVL are no longer sold.

Yes, it'll work just fine.

Try and update the thread on how that goes, I would like to see it.

I have an h100i in my air 240, and I wanted to squeeze a Hybrid in, but I honestly don't know if it's doable with the lines.

This guy managed to fit three (!) 120mm water coolers into his Corsair Air 240 case. He has them mounted on the front mounts as intakes in a staggered fashion so they fit together just perfectly.

Thanks for all the guys! Especially RGM!

Got my i5 6600 and a 980ti !

I didnt even need to buy a new version of windows! My windows 7 key worked as a re authorization code for my free windows 10 upgrade. I didnt replace my SSD or HDD in this, and I didnt do a fresh install of windows, so that might have been why it worked.

So excited to crush a bunch of games!

X99 supports quad-channel DDR4. You want 4 matched sticks to get the full bandwidth available to you.

That's perfect.

Around 1000€

Here's what I recommend:
ba543366_o.jpeg

It's largely based off what you already picked before, but I changed the CPU cooler for a better performing model that does fit in the Silencio 352 case, a better power supply, and RAM that isn't as tall so as to not interfere with the CPU cooler. Add that to the GTX 960 I recommended before and it comes in at just under 930 Euros.

You could add something like this Samsung 850 Evo 250GB SSD (75 Euros) to the parts list and everything would come to just about 1000 Euros total.

I forgot to mention, I left off the DVD drive because nowadays it's not really required anymore, but if you need it you can just add it into the parts list, of course.

Would i have any problems installing W10 using a USB? I've read somewhere the Z170 doesn't allow to install W7 this way.

That's only because Z170 motherboards dropped support for a USB standard known as EHCI which was required to allow the Windows 7 installer to run from a USB drive and interface with USB devices. You can read more about it here. Windows 10 has no such issues and will work just fine.

OK, nice. Then i'm dropping the DVD.

Thanks. :D

If it's not a money problem, don't. Mounting iso's is just "unnecessary" if money allows. Lazy here you see. Obviously if you have the need cause of software, or driver CD's that can't be retrieved online. RG is correct, no problem with USB W10 installations. The only reason I ditched my DVD drive was cause my case doesn't allow one. But I do see myself getting an external one in the near future. Just hoping for a good deal on a USB 3.0 one.

Quick question. Why is the MSI GTX 970 more expensive than the other 970 models ?

And how is the EVGA GTX 970 ?

No idea, perhaps it's just the German market and supply. The EVGA GTX 970 is okay. It's one of the more compact twin fan models. Some say it's not quite as good for overclocking due to the smaller cooler design, but how well each graphics card can be overclocked will vary by more than just the size of the cooler. I'm comfortable recommending an EVGA GTX 970 card most of the time.

6700 i7 is 4 Cores/ 8 threads, i5 6600k 4 Cores/4 threads. But k model you can overclock and now in most games you'll notice little difference but in a future 8 threads will be a more than a little difference.

What's the difference between a Bronze 750w 80+ EVGA Power Supply and a Gold Certified one?

Which models are you looking at? If it's the G2 and the B2 models, then you can see a comparison here, courtesy of the EVGA website's comparison feature.

What will you be doing with the PC? For most games today, there will be little to no difference between the two. For certain applications that can take advantage of the i7 6700's hyperthreading, it will be somewhat faster at things such as video encoding and rendering.

Well, first and foremost play a few games. But I'm into video filming/editing as well.
Also, how future-proof is the cheaper one? (if I'm buying a new PC I'm not looking to upgrade for a few years)

Quick question. Why is the MSI GTX 970 more expensive than the other 970 models ?

And how is the EVGA GTX 970 ?

which one(s)?

The MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G has a good costume cooler setup and it seems to have decent OC capabilities. First reviews were very positive and people still tend to buy it (high demand = high price). Nothing wrong with it, just a bit overpriced atm.

The EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 is a bit cheaper and a bit higher factory overclocked, the cooling is ok and some people were able to oc it even further. Nothing wrong with it. A good card.

But if you ask me, one of the best costume designs for the 970 is the gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming G1. I'm running the 980 model and temperatures are around the 60°C mark @1450mhz OC (stable), most people seem to be able to hit 1500mhz without problems on it. The downside is, it's one of the more power hungry cards (because of the massive cooling setup), it's huge and a bit louder then the others (nothing serious). But for around 350€ maybe the best 970 you can get atm.

Also worth mentioning is the Asus 970 Strix. It's very comparable to the MSI, but a bit cheaper.

If you are looking for a cheap and still performance heavy custom design try the Palit 970 Jetstream [~320€]. It's okay.

Agree with all of this, but the Stix doesnt OC very well, it has much lower TDP, only uses a single 6pin PCIE iirc, so has limited power delivery. Its a very good card for running silently with maybe only a small overclock without over volting.

Gigabyte G1 is the best, has the back plate to keep the rear ram chips cool, overclocks the best, has the best power delivery. Initial versions had the samsung VRAM which oc'd like a monster. Some of these guys hit 1600Mhz core. Its a bit louder, has no 0dB fan mode.

MSI Gamer, next up, quiter than the G1, no backplate, same hynix VRAM as G1 that you buy today, overclocks very well, 14-1500Mhz core average. Has 0dB fan mode under 60c.

Hi all, so I've been all over the place with graphics cards lately because of the current Amazon Warehouse 30% deal going on.

Originally I bit the bullet on a MSI 980ti which was £350 (bargain) but even at that price I couldn't justify it with Pascal round the figurative corner.

So then I managed to get a Sapphire R9 390 Nitro for £185 and that arrived two days ago and suddenly what I assume is coil whine (really annoying buzzing/screeching noise almost like a mosquito) has reared its ugly head from either the GPU itself or my PSU (Corsair TX650).

So it go too much yesterday and I decided to order the Gigabyte 970 G1 which I also got for £185 and when it arrives and if it doesn't induce coil whine like the 390 is I will keep it and send the 390 back.

But what I'm wanting to know or get some advice about is after all the reading I've done on coil whine I now know it can be caused by different combos of hardware and so a change of PSU might solve it. Is it worth persisting with the 390 Nitro over the 970 G1 and spending more money on PSU's to cure the coil whine? Or is the G1 the better card out of the two anyway? For reference I'm playing on a 1080p monitor and dont have the money to upgrade any time soon so benchmarks put the two cards within spitting distance of each other in performance.

Obviously the above is assuming that the G1 wont also induce coil whine, but if it also does then the same dilemma is there in that I've got the two cards, both the same price and I'll obviously be looking at a new PSU but which GPU do I keep?

Appreciate any advice!

Didn't know they changed it. bought my Gigabyte G1 980 4 weeks ago. And I have the samsung vram (according to GPU Z). Lucky me I guess. Will experiment a bit more with ocing it. Thx for the info.

I want a laptop because of reasons. I'm prett dense when it comes to what's good etc... just want something casual and have 3 to choose between;

SO DIMM 204-pin
120 GB SSD

HP Pavilion 15-ab193no
AMD Quad-Core A8
2,20 ghz, max 2,5 ghz

Is the SanDisk SSD PLUS 240 GB Sata III for £40.99 a good deal?

hey guys,

I have a Silverstone FT02S USB 2.0 I bought in 2011 and by now the fans seem to not work properly or cool not efficiently. Let me start with the build first though:

Asus Maximus Hero VII, Z97
i7-4790K@Noctua NH-D14
ASUS Titan X
2x8GB DDR-3 2400 Kingston HyperX Savage

As you can see I only have one card, the Titan X in my case but this card goes up to 86°C Celsius during load. I know it's a reference design but that card is still pushing hot air out of the case, no?

Shouldn't the temps be lower in general? I have set the middle fan to H and the rest to L, though even at L they are all too loud unfortunately.

I considered buying 3xAP182 but those are 90€ when added. What should I do?
Buy a new black (all my desk is black now) FT02B-W USB 3.0 or is there an even better case for AIR COOLING? Please recommend me something.

thanks and regards

Try and update the thread on how that goes, I would like to see it.

I have an h100i in my air 240, and I wanted to squeeze a Hybrid in, but I honestly don't know if it's doable with the lines.

im gonna try and do this except the CPU will be in push/pull, or maybe ill just orient it's fan/radiator on the ceiling which could allow me to have the GPU in push/pull as well

Got an Amazon gift card for Christmas and I'm thinking about using it to upgrade a computer part. I want to replace the piece that will gain me the most benefits. Looking to replace either the CPU, GPU, or add more RAM (which I think would be the smallest benefit).

Anyway here's what I'm running.

i5 2500K @ 4.0Ghz
GTX 770 (2GB I believe)
8GB RipJaws RAM

Should I upgrade the CPU or just snag a 970, or wait?

Two questions:

1. Does DDR4 RAM work ok with one stick compared to DDR3 / is it ok to have one stick of DDR4? Coulda sworn I heard that.

2. Is there any afforable-ish TV for PC gaming that has bearable refresh rate and input lag? I usually game on a Benq monitor with a 1ms refresh and I think around 10 ms input lag, so was hoping to try playing on a TV (with Steam controller) without it feeling atrocious in comparison.

Basically is there a TV that is a good substitute for a PC monitor for all purposes?

You can have RAM in any configuration, including one stick by itself. You just lose out on dual/triple/quad channel mode which is technically faster but you'll barely notice any difference if at all during normal use.

The CPU is fine. You should already have enough RAM to not have any issues, but DDR3 is cheap enough to get more of without breaking the bank. Another 8GB of DDR3 will run you only $40 or less. A GTX 970 would be a very nice upgrade. What you should get depends on how much you want to spend. What's your budget for upgrades?

Be careful with ceiling mounts in the Air 240, I am almost certain there isn't enough room to mount a radiator and fan there, much less in push and pull. There's a reason why that Corsair blog builder decided to put the third 120mm radiator in the other compartment instead of mounting it on the ceiling.

Temperatures in the 80 degree range sound normal. Unless you've been getting substantially lower temperatures before and it started getting hotter recently.

Sorry, my post was in regards to the 970. Not sure about 980.

On another note, anyone know of the smallest ITX case to fit 3 3.5" HDDs?
