If the PSP is $199?... do you think...

HELL NO!

The majority of kids who own the GBA at the 69 to 99 price tag have no hope of getting a PSP at 199.00, or the real price of 249.00 (case and memory stick).

Let the GA PSP Fanboys continue their delusion that the real world of handheld gaming is like them: willing to spend whatever it takes to play cut down versions of PS2 games.

The real question here is how badly will the failure of the PSP hurt Sony Corp. Once the hardcore handhelders have purchased it, no one else will. By next Christmas I see Sony pulling the PSP from the US market and retreating the Japan with the PSP.

Yep, looks like it's destined for failure alright

Sure... I could see $149 too. Sony's going to have to cook the books as it is, what's another $50 per unit in the scheme of things. :)

Well, we won't have to wait much longer to see the craziness ensue. If Sony is truly, really trying to take over the handheld market they have to be just as aggressive in NA as they were in Japan.

We're supposed to get an announcement soon after New Years, non? That'll be fun.

I'm starting to heavily considering barring Junior Members from making new threads in the Gaming Forum.

Doing this would make me believe in the magic of Christmas once more.

$199 is impossible. Get real fools.

Locked.

If I had to guess, it'll probably be $179 for a cut down Value Pack (16MB card, headphones, demo disc, no case, no inline remote). I think Sony will opt to go with one PSP configuration.

My bet is 199.99 with 32MB Memory Stick and that's it. Perhaps a demo disc too.

No way in hell the PSP is going to be $149 in the US at launch. And I'm happy to eat crow on that just like I was happy to do so when I figured it was going to be equivalent $300 at Japanese launch. :)

But, really, I just see Sony not needing or wanting to go that low.

Well, if we're throwing out guess I'd say $199.99 for the base unit, $239.99 for an equivalent "value" pack (32MB MSDuo, leather case, headphones, remote). Software will be around $39.99 mainly, but some smaller scale games like Puzzle Bobble or Lumines will come in lower ($29.99-$34.99).

if Sony does $149. Really... really impressed. That does change things a lot. I'm hoping for the sake of gamers everywhere that it's that price point. Lovely. Hopefully the games will be cheapish too.

They need to do an ICO/Katamari on PSP imo. Make it so sony.

I think Amirox's call is probably the most swallowable at the moment. That mem stick thing... they better make mem sticks the save format for PS3.. if we're going to go down this path ...

I do not think they have a HUGE shocker in pace regarding the price given that $149-199 is pretty much the range people are already expecting given the Japanese launch price.

<reverse psychology on>
$199.. no chance of it being anything lower... no way in hell.. nope.. nada... zilch
<reverse psychology off>

that 50 dollar gap, while important to us, i dont think will matter in the long sceme of things.

if there's one thing working retail has taught me, is that parents, while some of them DO bargain hunt, and more into getting the kid EXACTLY what they want, as opposed to what would be the better deal.

though one could argue, getting the parents to plop down 200+game in March would be a bit far fetched (espesially the ones who will be "I JUST GOT YOU A DS FOR XMAS, WTF")

it's going to fly off the shelves regardless due to the fact that sony has mastered the "I GOTTA HAVE THAT" retail persuasion.

hell, i've got 2 PS2's in the house (US/JPN), and i STILL wanted a slimline

so to answer your question? parents will pay. but probably not in march.
