[IGN] Nintendo Switch 2 Outselling the OG Switch 2-to-1 Across the Globe; Fastest-selling Nintendo console ever in the U.S.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware in the U.S. in the four days following its release, according to a statement obtained by IGN from Nintendo.

Additionally, Nintendo Switch 2 sales in all regions were approximately twice those of the Nintendo Switch 1 across both consoles' first four days on the market.

This news comes on the heels of Nintendo's announcement yesterday that the Nintendo Switch 2 was also the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware globally, reaching over 3.5 million units sold in its first four days. For comparison, the Nintendo Switch 1 sold 2.74 million units globally in just less than a month on sale. Nintendo is projecting 15 million sales globally of the Nintendo Switch 2 for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.

High sales are being attributed to high available stock at launch, something that isn't always guaranteed at a console launch. Nintendo of American head Doug Bowser previously assured that Nintendo would have enough Switch 2 units to meet demand in the U.S.

In the UK, the Nintendo Switch 2's sales were still lower than those of the PS4, PS5, and Xbox series consoles in the same period. The UK has historically been a more challenging market for Nintendo when compared to its competitors.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2 is in such high demand that parody listings are popping up on online marketplaces for "Switch 2"... that are just light switches.

no shit i can not find one lmao.

That's not surprising. Probably the most amount of inventory of any console launch ever. We will know a lot more 1 year from now. These numbers don't mean much at the moment

I'm probably just imagining things, but something about the way this article is worded makes it feel like it was written through gritted teeth.

They still need to sell those you know. Doesnt matter how much they have in stock

It means they sold a fuck ton of consoles. The switch 2 is dope and has great backward compatibility with switch 1, which has one of the best software libraries of all time.
It's going to be more surprising if it slows down significantly rather than just keeps selling steadily.

It is selling to enthusiast right now. And there are a lot of those. I want to see how it continues to sell with its second Holiday. Maybe if it has 40 mil by Jan 2027 it will be unprecedented. I want to know if sales taper. They need more games by Holiday. More than Metroid and MK and DK.

I'm well aware. It's a marathon not a sprint though. The die hard Nintendo fanbase was always going to be their day 1. It's a great start, but it's not necessarily indicative of the casual audience buying Switch 2s 2-3 years from now.

I say this as someone who thinks Switch 2 will sell 100+mil. I just don't think launch sales mean much in the long term

You can't even buy them online yet. Just wait for that burst of sales. We also know they will sell out completely for the holiday. Mario game gotta be coming soon.

When exactly do you expect things to take a downturn? Next February?

with this kind of launch numbers it will get the quickest ports of whatever publishers can get out by christmas. going to be a lot of half assed ports in the near future I am afraid.

Why is IGN afraid to say Switch 2 sales crushed Playstaion's records?

The "let's not hurt Sony's feelings" word salad in this article is glaring.
This is also how people act when talking about the Switch 1 crushing the PS2. Hemming and hawing. We all know it is inevitable even after the goal post move from Sony.

Switch 2 is cheap in Japan. That will control the zeitgeist of developers who create the games we play on this thing which will in turn control the audience. Switch 2 will be a 100m+ console. Nintendo is also becoming a more premium brand in gaming and this holiday is going to be monstrous. We have never been more consumerish and this new toy is going to dominate.
