Indiana Jones is selling more on PS5 than Xbox/Steam

Yea this is my take as well, these numbers are low.

I played through the game and the entire time I wished it had simply been Uncharted but with Indy.
Instead, it's a Dishonored like open world playground.
There is only a couple of those big action set pieces similar to what Uncharted served up.

It did have that exploring and finding lots of little puzzles everywhere thing. But really I just wanted big explody fly by the seat of your pants action.
It's an interesting decision that Machine Games have made, for sure. The previous 3D Indy games were pretty much Tomb Raider-likes. And the 2D games were point-and-click adventure games you'd expect from LucasArts. Fate of Atlantis especially is one of the best ever made.

I finished it on PC and would probably have double dipped on PS to platinum it, but......nah
It's a very good game, but yeah, first person perspective just doesn't work as well for a cinematic adventure like Indy.

And of course folks have expectations built upon years of Tomb Raider and Uncharted.

Not surprising given that the majority of story game players have PS consoles.

This game is basically a mini-Rise of the Tomb Raider when you think about it.. Excellent technically and visually, but sales performance got hobbled through dumb exclusivity chicanery.

Let's not attack people on subjective opinions, especially if you begin written sentences with verbal filler words. Get along, youngins.
Wasn't attacking on opinion. Pointing out a cheap drive-by post based on false information by someone who clearly didn't play it, and just read something somewhere. Try again?

I don't "attack opinions", I debate points with people if they choose to engage in civil discourse. And I'll point out there was nothing uncivil or unfair about my comment. It was deserved. You make a drive-by post, you get called out on it. 🤷‍♂️. That's honestly how it should work. Drive-bys are the worst, they need to be squelched.

This is great.

Microsoft is going to love the revenue they generate from this.

Indiana Jones is a great game and I think everyone should play it.

It also serves as proof that Bethesda under MS is capable of producing great games.

Revenue with these poor sales...
Its an expensive Licensed IP.
Sony prob makes more profit on this Game than Xbox.

Great game?
Hardly 7/10 game for me.

Why you guys always lying pretending to be a PC user? We know you play on Xbox.
If you're so sure about what you say, let's do the following: I'll post a picture of my gaming PC with a piece of paper written with my nickname here on the forum, and then you'll delete your account here on the forum, what do you think? lol

I did my part.
117.2K sales in a week on a platform with ~70 million units sold, for a game based on a gargantuan IP, that reviewed well with both critics and players, has won several awards and was nominated for others?

Awkward The Office GIF

Doesn't matter how you slice it, those are abysmal numbers, almost to the point where I have a hard time believing them without disclosing all his sources.
The game also got the kiss of death when Microsoft said they were happy with the performance.

Hey dont worry, god of war 3 is coming......to sell 2 million copies. Also, WTF buys a game that they already own on PC to get a useless digital "trophy"? Mental illness.

100k? That's what the weebiest niche game from Japan sells these days. Crazy flop if true. I guess Indiana Jones is a dead IP these days. Kind of sad, but ultimately it's a couple of action movies from 40 years ago which you cannot milk like Star Wars

They are so predictable.
I've already said on the forum that I sold my PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to build a PC.

It's really hilarious how you guys assume that any "negative" comment about the PlayStation 5 is from an active Xbox user.

Which, by the way, wasn't even a negative comment, I just said what you guys always say here on the forum: MS is porting its games because Xbox and GamePass aren't sustainable, so you're helping to support them now by buying individual games.

But I didn't know you guys would be so hurt by me saying something you've always said lol

Indiana Jones ain't what it used to be, but I maintain that the game would have been much more appealing to a larger number of gamers if it had been in third person.
And thank goodness they stuck to first person as it resulted in much more immersive experience.

Graphics are hit and miss, animations look mediocre, the art direction is good, but the world look very sterile amd combat looks really bad.

It's saving grace is the lighting/RTGI, that basically acts like smoke-n-mirrors.

I don't even think the IP is the issue. That's just an excuse people use t o avoid the above.

And that doesn't mean people can't or shouldn't enjoy the game, clearly there was no appeal to the masses whatsoever.
I don't get it, I think the game looked incredible, and I played it on a Series S with a 1440p monitor, not PC or PS5 Pro.

Maybe I'm just old. I think Vagrant Story on PS1 and FFXII on PS2 still looks awesome, and this game blows them away. Nor did I think the combat was that bad, albeit it's not the focus of the game and could improve! It's a solid 8.8- 9/10 game, IMO.

Moreover, the game felt like Indiana Jones and they did an excellent job of capturing that. If the IP has no juice, that wouldn't matter to most people that don't have a reference point.

Not for me. Playing first person removed Indiana Jones from view and so I just never had the feeling that I was playing as him.
No offence, but this is so weird to be honest: there are literally hours of cutscenes with him, he is quite chatty during gameplay and then all these short shifts to 3rd person. I wasn't just playing Indiana Jones, I was him.

This.

I was initially sold on the idea of first person just to differentiate the game from the multiple Uncharted I had played and replayed for decades, being my favorite series, especially to avoid any comparison with things nobody can do as good as Naughty Dog in third person.

But after playing the game, I am sold on the first person simply because the game as good as it is would never work in third person. It is the definitive game of this kind now as far as I'm concerned.
Wanted to replay it immediately after 100% it in 60 hours (I fully completed each area before progressing, and had a total blast because side content, down to the most obscure note, is so masterfully complementary to the main thing it all felt so insanely organic, I was finding and solving my own adventures constantly), that would have never happened in a million years with an Uncharted game of even half this length..

For real. And even in first person, the masterfully placed light sources everywhere get you to constantly see the super-iconic silhouette as shadow.. which is something that never failed to please this Indiana Jones fan.

The immersive sim aspects would be lost if it were a third-person game, we don't even have a basis to discuss whether it would be better because it would have to be a completely different game.

I'm not "playing" cutscenes. You can think my opinion "weird", but that's my take. Not sure what there is to argue about. You felt first person was more immersive and I didn't.

You can still have immersive sim elements and be a 3rd person game.

In fact there are immersive sim games that are entirely 3rd person, so not really a great excuse.

The 1st/3rd person thing for a game like this just comes down to preference.

Like I mentioned, you're not going to change these kids. I've been posting here for nearly 20 years and there has always been console warriors. Used to be PS2, then 360 when PS3 "had no games" and now they're all on PS5.

Even when I was a kid, I used to go get part-time jobs and buy every console. Never understood console wars.

That wasn't even a console war take though. It was just stupid. Indiana Jones isn't a woke game at all.

Is it the need to be able to see protagonist's ass at all times to feel like you are playing him? Is it?

I'm not even arguing, just communicating on the difference of opinion: that the game does a great job of putting a player into Indy's shoes (or hat if you will) without actually seeing him at all times. The shadow thing that Vick Vick pointed out is another great detail that works so well. As the fan of Spielberg's trilogy I was so happy to see that hat shadow for the first time and that would have never leave the same impression when in third person.

If we policed stupid on GAF, there would only be 5 members left. How many dumbass threads "do you think that xyz" or "how many will copies will XYZ game sell" we get? I'd ban them all! 🤣

lol....I'm not saying the guy should be banned. Definitely think the community should point out blatantly stupid takes like this though.

I just don't want it to come off as if I'm defending his dumbass take, just that sitting here feeding these trolls is an impossibility. When you squash one, seven more pop up.

But yes, I would not be a good moderator, all these kids would be banned.

I'm sure that I would have bought this game if it had been a 3rd person action game, similar to Uncharted, I'm just not drawn to a first person Indy game, especially when the gameplay seems to be predominantly based on creeping around and whacking baddies over the head from behind.

How they managed to make an Indy game look kind of dull is quite the feat. And a lot of that is because Indy isn't always present on the screen.
