Is PlayStation no longer doing exclusives?

What planet were you living on in the past few years?
I skipped ps5 despite having a ps1-4

guess I haven't been following it very closely but I don't recall any major PS5 titles coming to xbox or PC

Demon's Souls remake is the only game I really had an active interest in and I'm pretty damn sure it never got ported

If most or all of their studios really rebooted development after cancelling several GaaS games then they'll probably preparing for PS6 instead and just leaving third parties or some money hatted studio finish this generation

To my recollection none of the Sony exclusives games have come on Xbox, only PC, after an year or two.

MLB made it to the Xbox and Switch because the MLB demanded. Lego Horizon also went to the Switch. Most games have made their way to the PC.

My god thousands of games get released each year even without exclusives there is more than enough to play. The only company that needs to worry about exclusives is actually nintendo since they have such shit 3rd party support.

Yeah, Marvel Tokon and Nioh 3 are both launching day one on Steam. Everybody's Golf is on Switch. Safe to say that Sony have completely transitioned away from permanent exclusives.

I thought Sony was big on exclusives. but now even their new IP isn't exclusive?

what happened?

if Nintendo is the only console still doing exclusives I think we're going to see a bunch of the Switch 2 sell
They tanked all their Games as a Service projects Jim Ryan made them do for the past 6/7 years chasing Fortnite & PUBG only to find out it was a financially stupid and inviable plan.

Now most of those teams that aren't starting from scratch had to cobble things together from the remains of their dead projects and shit out remasters until their new Single Player games are ready to go.

"Show. Don't Tell." is the lesson to be learned last gen announcement edging and delays, plus don't fucking chase waterfalls.

I'm not planning on buying a PS ever again so fine with me. I can wait on anything timed, assuming its not day 1 on PC. Just waiting for this Xbox PC business and then it'll be even more apparent that this stuff no longer matters. A lot of people said that would happen. We're not completely there yet but its pretty close.

If Sony has no exclusives in the future, what the fuck is the point of buying their console? MS did this, and look where it got them. Nintendo didn't, and they're swimming in cash. Weird situation.

Come on man, Horizon Zero Dawn came out on PC 5 years ago. You must be living under a rock, cause i don't give a shit about pc but that game and spider man 1 coming to pc was a pretty big deal and talked about here many times. And they ain't bringing games like that to Xbox, especially not now. Death Stranding 1 came to Xbox, but only because Kojima Productions acquired the ip from Sony.

Sony can't no longer sustain $500m franchises and make bets and invest into new big hitters as often. This is the point where MS had foreseen this and played smarter with GamePass where Sony and Nintendo user base would funnel the money for MS bets and services.

Waiting for all the Astrobot games to come to my PC.
I want the VR game, the Playroom and the main Astrobot game and any new ones that are made.

Steam is probably a bigger threat to whatever Sony releases next than a new Xbox.
Not yet, but soon. Maybe.

There is no point. I'm serious. People here on GAF who have a PC and Playstation, should stop at the PS5.

Again, I'm being serious. Not only will you and others here have much less to complain about (since you will have never bought the PS6), but then you'll be able to enjoy 95% of their library on PC and enjoy their showcases much, much more.

It's a win/win all around.

not to mention competition between Steam, GOG, etc. keeps prices low with sales fairly often

games are just cheaper on average on PC

They no longer own the IP.

Nah, let's be fair here, Sony still owns the game and allowed the Xbox port to happen. Buy the Series version and you will see the SIE Presents splash screen at the beginning.

Ughh best overall gaming experience. Price, performance, interface, hardware. Just because one makes exclusives don't guarantee they will be good ms has been giving exclusives away and it hasn't done shit for them.

Pretty much it, yea. But looking from Sony's point of view, they'll get much more sales from games, but everything else will be in free fall. Console sales will drop by a ton, especially with those prices. All peripherals sales will drop like crazy. PS+ subs will explode. Not sure about this plan of theirs.

MS made their system irrelevant. If you can play all their games on pc, their xbox has no reason to exist. And their sales prove this being the case. Is Sony trying to do the same thing, or something?

Check revenue figures for all 3 companies.

If you want to focus just on profit, selling software will only increase profitability at minimal investment.

Regardless of what happens with Sony, at least you will feel better sticking to PC. Also, if it ever reaches that point you speak of, it's not your problem anymore 🤷‍♂️ and gaming continues to move on as it does.
