I am traveling to Super Nintendo World, but I see the reports about a potential Vita 2, and I would definitely scope down those expectations. I've only ever heard about a cloud-streaming handheld.

Its cloud time.

Wonder what the specs are for the vita v.2.

vita 2 wouldnt make sense because sony clearly cant even support the psvr2. there just arent enough studios to go around. nintendo had to ditch the console business or the handheld business (whatever floats your boat) to focus on one hardware for their first party devs. sony can only do that if they somehow make the vita 2 a 10 tflops monster, and that is simply going to be impossible.

cloud gaming is their only hope and no one wants to play games on a cloud.

Japan might be interested. Who knows. Maybe they are feeling like taking Nintendo again.

But yeah a dedicated cloud device doesn't make a ton of sense to me. You can just use a phone and a $5 clip and use a real controller. Costs you $5 if you have a phone and PS5 already.

A cloud handheld makes no sense. They already make Xperia phones that are more than capable of game streaming. They just need better input, and there are a lot of 3rd party options for those.

With a cloud only device, you're now hamstrung not only by battery life, but internet access.

Fuck that, what a waste of resources.

The Internet infrastructure is nowhere near ready for cloud garbage for most people.
Even in places where there is good Infrastructure cloud gaming isn't a great experience. I'll give Sony the benefit of the doubt and wait for an actual reveal and specs but cloud only handheld is not the way (yet)

They're making a handheld shaped like a cloud. It will launch with Gravity Rush 3 which will sell 139 copies and Sony will end support of the device within 14 months.

Sony doesn't have the resources to make another platform for developers so the only solution that makes any sense is to throw a screen on a DualSense, give it WIFI, and use it to push people to the highest tier of PS Plus for less than $200.

I mean, I'd have no interest in using it for cloud gaming, but local streaming could be cool. Hardware would be relatively cheap too, no?

If there was a handheld which could play PS4 games natively and stream PS5/PS3/whatever, that would be quite a device. I'd get it for sure.

It's gonna be a 5G enabled cloud streaming handheld in partnership with phone carriers and with its own 5G plan with the marketing promise of lag-free 5G cloud gaming. Quote me on this.

It would be nice to have a handheld that allowed focusing on screen/control and power that mainly excels streaming ps5/pro ps4 pro games from LAN while the ability to access through 5G/internet. Possibility the ability to compress or download/share digital downloads cross-platform if you wanted to have no streaming or no access to internet. Basically, transfer your games before you go. I guess it would the real PS Go.

This is kind of what I was suspecting. I am actually excited for this if it works well. Trophy hunting on the go! So I guess they're doing what MS is doing with cloud. Remember the cloud servers for MS run of Series X hardware specs.

Sony is prolly doing same thing with PS5 tech but it will just be a habdheld used as a device to play the games off the servers.

I remember Sony partnering with them for Azure cloud technology. This is all making sense now assuming that this is true.

I'm thinking the same thing. Let the main system be the hub for cloud access and main storage. Transfer games freely between the two or stream right from the console if available

I was hoping for something like a Switch but does not require online. I was hoping this would be something like the Steam Deck but played PS4 games and possibly streamed PS5 games. If only a streaming device, I'm out.

There HAS to be a download option for a cloud device otherwise it won't work, hopefully Grubb only heard a part of the truth.

In saying that, it is Grubb, he isn't exactly reliable on anything but certain specific things like shows.

If greasy Grubb says it then it's not true. I think the rule of Pachter applies here.

Also, he's just saying this because he's mad someone got a scoop before him.

That's not how cloud gaming works my man.

Maybe they could make it play scaled down versions of ps5 games. Or play ps4 games natively and then stream ps5 games.

That's honestly the worst decision they could take right now.

This sort of device would make more sense at the end of the gen, assuming cloud gaming services become the norm by 2030.
