Jeff Grubb: Sony is working on a cloud handheld

cloud gaming is their only hope and no one wants to play games on a cloud.
Don't tell that to Gamepass fans! This is supposedly the reason why Xbox purposefully removing PlayStation from multiplatform games makes them reach more gamers despite denying a huge swath of gamers.

No thanks. I ain't touching any cloud streaming console. Doesn't matter if it's Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. They need to improve the image quality and latency.

I believe that shit

vita 2 wouldnt make sense because sony clearly cant even support the psvr2. there just arent enough studios to go around. nintendo had to ditch the console business or the handheld business (whatever floats your boat) to focus on one hardware for their first party devs. sony can only do that if they somehow make the vita 2 a 10 tflops monster, and that is simply going to be impossible.

cloud gaming is their only hope and no one wants to play games on a cloud.

How is Sony not supporting the PSVR2? A lot of game releases are coming. And we haven't had any showcase.

Fuck that, what a waste of resources.

The Internet infrastructure is nowhere near ready for cloud garbage for most people.
As much of a waste of time and effort as it is, it could be much worse, going by Henderson's reporting. I'm guessing that one of the higher ups at Sony mandated something for the "streaming space" and the PS division phoned in the minimally resource demanding project. E.g. a remote play device that probably doesn't work outside of the household.

Corporations as large as Sony always have these little pet projects that some executive really wants to push, even though most people inside know is going to be a waste of time. But they go along with it because nobody wants to say no to the boss, and they want to be the guy that roadblocked a project that could potentially get the company early entry into what turns out to be the latest market trend even less.

The second that other thread was made about Sony and a handheld, I knew it had to be a cloud/streaming device. It makes zero sense for Sony to divide their internal teams to make games for two different gaming platforms.

Grubb is lying his ass off. However, there are people who want to believe this so this thread will go places as they try and convince themselves / will a handheld into existence.

How far in the future? 20 years?

Where the hell do you have internet fast enough to cloud-stream-game outside of your house?

I can't even load websites without 2-3 seconds delay on the subway....
My cell service at work and at my in-laws.

I just did this test.

I hardly ever have an issue with remote play or cloud gaming in the only three locations I've tried.

Hopefully it doesn't have any good exclusives, I don't want a handheld let alone a cloud one. I'm the minority who's most exciting thing about the switch is playing games like Pokemon or fire emblem on a TV. I would absolutely hate to have a great game come out that only works on a cloud handheld.

If Sony is interested in cloud, they should contact Google and buy up the Stadia technology, Stadia was a huge flop but the technology was top tier.

Many people now converging to the Remote Play device, not a cloud one (i.e. to use at home and not dependent on the Plus Premium subscription).
It's just a WiFi DualSense with an 8-inch screen. If it's cheap enough and Sony enables video with very high bitrate, it could be interesting.

If it's sold as a peripheral to the PS5 and not a console, and it's priced as such (~200€ tops?), then I'd see it as just another nice thing to have.
But in that case it's not a handheld console, obviously.
