Help me!

I'm about to order 1 cube for international shipping (Finland). Do I have to factor in the shipping costs to my pledge? i.e., if I only pay the $19, does that in fact mean that I won't receive one due to the combined cube + shipping costs exceeding my pledge? Or are the shipping costs handled later?

It would be nice to see companies with established production/distribution lines make more fidgety gadgets. Even the random Chinese toy companies would bring a lot more choice and affordability.

Well, I was kinda right, I guess? Apparently the Chinese manufacturers of the Fidget Cube have been flooding the market with the things from the initial production run and selling them at much cheaper prices from various manufacturers. If you go on Amazon or AliExpress you can see tons of them and they clearly aren't knockoffs, they're the original design.

This isn't OK, obviously, but I'm hoping this along with the success of the original KS campaign suggests knockoffs are coming.

So that's what is going on? Wasn't following this product at all. Googled it earlier at got a different site at top that offers it with free shipping without waiting till April. Sounds tempting if it's the real deal, but also all kinds of wrong.

Jeez. I bought two at 20 bucks a piece.

This seems ideal for my ADHD. I always have something in my hand but way too often destroy pens, pencils, or other objects by applying too much force. This seems like a reliable allround thing. Still, my ADHD also pretty much guarantees I will lose within a week so I am not going to spend this much money on it.

You really do have to wonder what in the world necessitates the 20$ pricetag though.

Aliexpress sells them for 2-5 bucks a piece right now, that's about right for what they likely cost to produce. They are the exact same product too.
The kickstarters original goal was $15,000 which would've been between 750 or so devices made.
Instead they got 150K backers.
Those pledge tiers were priced for a much smaller manufacturing run.
And then everyone proved they wanted it anyways.

Wonder how many people will get them at a much lower cost before backers do?
Heh everyone's selling the kickstarter limited edition version as well.

First wave of shipping starts end of next week! I'm surprised they're getting these out to backers on time, I was expecting a delay.

Why a delay? The copies from China that are 100% the same thing have been on eBay for over a month now.

Because for a while they seemed a little disorganized, and from their updates they sounded unsure if they were going to ship on time. Essentially didn't confirm it until like last week.

Probably couldn't get a manufacturer because everyone was already too busy ripping them off.

It was probably the manufacturer they selected that ripped them off. "sorry we are delayed" while they sell them an Alibaba and eBay.

There are 9,028 fidget cubes on Alibaba right now. That is insane. After the Kickstarter backers are supplied they are done as a company. $19 vs $2 on Amazon or eBay.

Annnd now there are a bunch of knockoff fidget cubes on Amazon with prime shipping.
Looking at the images some seem of lesser qualities than others but the temptation got to me and I ordered another knockoff to mess around with and compare once the kickstarter one arrives.

Feel bad for the guys who made it but ordered one on Alinaba because I wasn't part of original kickstarter and man the thing is Fucking amazing. I fidget so much and this thing is a dream, I think the joystick is my favorite piece but the light switch is a close second. Can't wait to use this thing at work where I'm on the phone a lot, gonna be playing with this thing for hours every day.

Well I've gotten a copy from Amazon and 2 of aliexpress.
The copy from amazon was a piece of junk but the two from Ali are fantastic in every way and I feel fairly certain they are real ones the seller got a hold of one way or another.
And all my copies came well before Christmas so yay.

I'm waiting until I can buy one officially, fuck the knock-offs. Seems like nobody can make anything original any more without somebody making a shitty copy and trying to undercut you.

A guy at work got one of the knockoffs and it had already broken by the time I saw it, and it's missing several features that the real one has.

Just found out about this today and bought one instantly.

Hoping this can keep me from wearing out things that I carry from constantly fidgeting with them.

Ordered two of them a couple weeks ago. The knockoff stuff really really sucks. The first website that pops up if you google " fidget cube" is a website for a knockoff one and they have ripped all the assets and graphics and stuff straight from the kickstarter.

Shipping has started, can't wait!
They're sending out shipments in order of backing. My number is in the 24-thousand range (out of 154,926 backers), so not totally great but it could have been been worse.

Mine hasn't shipped yet but I expect it will any day now. I wasn't one of the earliest backers, but I was included in the first batch of single cube rewards.

I also bought a knockoff from Aliexpress (I was buying something else from a seller and they just happened to be selling them too) which should show up in a couple weeks. I expect it to be garbage, but we'll see.

EDIT: I looked it up, my backer number is in the 21k range. I guess I should be expecting the notification very soon.

I'm guessing that if you purchased off the website you are behind all the kickstarters?

Yeah mine's in the 26k range so I'm probably still waiting a while. This has been such a debacle for them between the knockoffs and the shipping issues. Going into the comments on the KS page is a nightmare.

People have been constantly bugging them for more updates and info and to not go dark for weeks at a time and they say they don't want to be spammy with updates while filling all their updates with gifs.

There are at least two different types of fakes floating around out there, some really crappy ones that just feel crappy and some very good ones that I feel fairly certain are the real thing.
Well soon I'll probably be able to compare my copies with the real things ad fiddle a lot.

My wife picked up one of these at a local toy store before Christmas. Don't know if it's the real thing or a knockoff, but it feels solid and works well. Came in a nice quality box too.

Yeah, their brand presence is super grating. I still have high hopes for the product, though.

These guys still aren't shipping?

I've been enjoying my
(bootleg)
fidget cubes for a good while now. Build quality is way better than I expected. They have this real rubbery soft-plastic feel that feels great in the palm.
Great things to have around the desk for whenever you encounter a loading screen or something like that. Been fiddling with them non stop and they are rock solid.

Yep. I ordered both a Kickstarter one and a bootleg and feel the same way. Really helps out with anxiety.

I get why people would buy the chinese knockoff, but man... these people came up with a great idea and I will always push people I know to support the original creators.

These people need to amortize the time they spend in designing, prototyping, refining, marketing, etc. The actual cost of production is not what youre buying. The knockoffs literally use the same plates and molds and are just charging you for the materials and factory time. I am not content with supporting this kind of slimy bullshit.

Great post, I totally agree.

I fully respect that.

I simply felt that the price for the original Fidget Cube (estimated to retail for 25$ a piece) was excessively high. And when you have a great idea that is very, very simple to fabricate and costs next to nothing in raw materials/production, then it's not shocking to see people undercutting you with knockoffs in the blink of an eye.
I love the idea of the Fidget Cube, and I do feel like I owe the creators some compensation. And if the originals were priced at 10$ a piece I would never have ventured over to eBay for a knockoff. But as it stands right now these things really are about worth what I paid for them, which was about 4-5 eurobucks a piece.

Yep completely agree, that's why I backed this project. I wish they'd been better about their communication regarding the shipping, but all things considered it's not a big deal and I'll get it eventually.

I was warned against getting knock-offs and just got a hand spinner. It's cool and cheap but doesn't satisfy the same itch.

I'm always disappointed with these updates.

Seems like this thing was doomed from the get go.

When your product is a small cube of plastic and common things like buttons and dials and switches, you have to know it will be immediately reproduced right?

I mean right?

Makes all the sense in the world.

I get them putting work into it and creating it and deserve the rewards.

But if you've ever been in a toy isle, this was the only possible conclusion.

Then when you look on Amazon and can buy one of these things in a rainbow of colors for like 4 bucks... good night irene.

I mean they made millions of dollars of this kickstarter. They might not be the Mark Zuckerberg of fidgeting, but in the great game of internet, they are clear winners. They had their 15 minute of fame, cashed out, world moves on.

Can someone summarize the events here?

They raised 120k.. and haven't shipped anything..

Then competitors made one, and everyone bought those?
