Can someone summarize the events here?

They raised 120k.. and haven't shipped anything..

Then competitors made one, and everyone bought those?

Happens with a lot of Kickstarters these days. Sometimes the knockoffs hit the market before the Kickstarter campaigns are even over.

There are so many knockoffs, I dont know which is good. And they are cheap, like $10.

Hoo-Doo thanks for the PM, but since that was an American listing, I have to search for a Canadian version. Im really curious to compare the build quality of both

Is it a problem? I'm from the Netherlands and ordered from there just fine. They ship worldwide.

Oh well.

I'm guessing that if you purchased off the website you are behind all the kickstarters?

Most likely, that would be the 'fair thing' for the creators to do.
There were two 'promised dates'. When the december slots filled up, new slots for I believe march were added. So it might be a long wait for non-kickstarter buyers.

gamer edition?

A color scheme. There was a contest, backers could submit their own colors. The Gamer one won

Yeah ehh, I'll stick with my NES themed one. This one is garish.

I got my knockoff one that I ordered like a month ago. It feels pretty good in the hand, but some of the things are a bit stiff, so I don't know if it's identical to the kickstarter version.

EDIT: Yeah, I don't have any silent buttons, and my metal ball isn't clickable.

Got my knock-off from Alibaba and am very happy w/ the build quality. The only thing I can tell that is lacking is on the 5 button clicker side, there are no silent buttons like the Kickstarter one has. Have been using mine for a few weeks now and everything is still holding up nicely. The joystick is my favorite piece followed by the light switch. Of everything, I probably use the small metal ball the least.

I feel bad for the Kickstarter but given how cheap and available the knock offs are and how long it'd take me to get one legitimately, it was a pretty easy decision. Highly recommended for anyone who fidgets, I use the thing all damn day.

I just wish the kickstarter would have inspired similar but different cheap fidgety things, not wholesale ripoffs :(

the hand spinner is nice but I'd love some actual variety

This is kinda what I was hoping would happen, despite several of the design elements being ripped wholesale from the original:

If this is a thing now, I welcome the lower prices and the competition to find the most satisfying widgets.

This is the one I have then. All clicky buttons, no clicky ball

Finally got my shipping notice.
Looks like they are shipping out the kickstarter editions for now.
I feel like this campaign would've been smoother had they not announced on Dec 7th that they would begin shipping the next week and set up a lot of false hope for delivery by Christmas.
Ah well, now to wait for my cube to mess with.

I still don't have a fidget cube. I missed out on the Kickstarter so now I'm thinking on getting one. I don't get why the Kickstarter one costs 2-3x as much as th knock-offs. They all come from China right? Does the Kickstarter version have something the others don't have?

No. Just buy whichever.

Kickstarter one probably needs to account for research and development costs.

Zero investment, for starters.

I just got my knockoff one. Feels alright, except for the features that are missing even though they're advertised in the mini leaflet it came with:
Ball bearing does not depress
For that 5-buttoned side, no buttons are silent

Everything else seems okay.

I just use a kneaded eraser for my fidgeting.

Pretty much silent, has some resistance to it, and you can make all kinds of shapes without it drying like playdough.

Plus they're like a dollar a piece.

Finally got a shipping notice, looks like it'll take at least 2 weeks to get here from California. Taking that long it better be some dude walking it all the way here.

Got my Kickstarter Edition yesterday (LA area). It came with two grip covers with keychain attachments. I've been pretty pleased with it- my only two complaints is that the switch is pretty loud (which makes it a no-go for meetings), and has pretty low give. If it was half as silent and took a *little* extra strength to press in, it'd be perfect. And the plastic shell is well made, but still too hard/smooth if that makes sense. It could instead be made of a grippier matte material for added comfort while fidgeting. The silicon cover that came with mine helps offset this though. Thinking of buying another for work...

Pretty much my exact feelings as well. Most of the sides are all good, the three different clickiness options on the five-button side are great, but the switch is way too loud to use if anyone else is anywhere around.

I thought they had revealed a post-Kickstarter secret improvement that the switch could be depressed before rocking for a quiet option.

Edit: Nope, it was about the buttons:

Antsy Labs said:
we thought we would disclose one of the additional tweaks we made to Fidget Cube that has been undisclosed up until this point. The change was made to the "click" face with the five buttons.

Originally, this face of Fidget Cube featured two classes of buttons: two buttons that could be pushed down and rebound completely silently, and three buttons that would provide a satisfying tactile response and audible click.

As we progressed through the many stages of fine-tuning Fidget Cube leading up to final production, we came to the realization that we could further improve on functionality in this area. Instead of giving you just two classes of buttons (one that's entirely silent and one that makes a loud click), we decided to transform the middle button into something in between those two ends of the spectrum. In other words, the middle button provides a tight, tactile feedback but emits a slightly less punchy audible click. We feel that this new middle button will be perfect for situations where you need to make a little less noise but still want to have a clean, snappy rebound on the "click" face. It's a subtle change but we think you'll love it. After using your Fidget Cube you will develop your favorite functions but the middle button is one of ours! This change is purely functional and hasn't modified the aesthetics of Fidget Cube.

My mom gave me one randomly. I am definitely a fidgeter so it's great. I thought it might have been a knockoff, but it's definitely not, though. Stick, ball and the groove are my favourites. Would like one of those spinners on a bearing though.

Got mine in today. It feels pretty good to use, though I was expecting a heavier almost vinyl feel to it. Instead it's a light plastic feel. Overall it's still neat to have, so I'm cool with the final product.

So for those of you who have already received theirs, what is your approx. backer number? (where you an early / late backer?)

Received mine today, I'm backer #40,453...not sure if that's early or late stage backer. Think I got in on it a couple weeks after the campaign launched.

Overall it's pretty neat, I will echo some sentiments that it feels a little bit more plastic-y than I originally imagined. I had ordered up a Chinese knock-off on eBay to mess around with while I waited for my official one, and I have to say the knock-off actually did a few things better in my opinion.

Black one is the knock-off. It has a more textured feel and just feels more premium in my hand. If I shake it around, it has a real solid feel and there is little noise of the parts inside jingling around. With the grey, it feels as if the parts are looser put together inside as when I shake it I feel nearly all of the components shaking as well. Clearly this thing isn't made to be shaken like this, but it kind of adds to the point that the knock-off is a bit sturdier to me.

As for the actual fidget parts, I like some on the knock-off more. The worry stone on the black one is a smooth depression that when coupled with the more textured feel of the cube's material is actually quite soothing to rub. The official cube has a much more immediate depression and feels as if it wants me to have my thumb firmly planted in it instead of rubbing it. Not sure if this difference shows in the picture I took very well. Along with the plastic toy quality of the official material, it doesn't seem as comforting to me.

I also prefer the 3 clicky dials on the knock-off, they seem to vary resistance with one that is hard to turn, one that is easy, and one that falls seemingly in between the two. On the official cube, all 3 dials are the same and pretty easy to turn. The ball you spin above (below?) these dials also has a great click on the official cube, something the knock-off lacks. I love that clicky ball already. The thumbstick thing also feels somewhat like a 3DS analog nub to me on the official, and that is a great thing.

I could keep going but I feel as if I've written a lot more than I intended too, but am pretty happy with my purchase. This Chinese one cost me ~$4 I think, and do feel as if I definitely got my moneys worth with that though I am glad to have supported the actual creators of the fidget cube as well.

I've had mine for about a week now at work and I really like it, as others have mentioned though the switch is really loud and too easy to hit which makes me worry it might annoy coworkers (they all seem to love it though, so probably not?)

It has made me realise that I prefer squishy things to fidget with, like stress balls. Or right now on my desk I have a yarn yoshi amiibo which gets squeezed when I'm fidgeting. If they somehow managed to make something that combined the fidget cube and a stress ball itd be the best thing ever.

This exactly. I've had my Fidget cube for months now and I don't really use it anymore, it's just too static and doesn't really scratch that fidgeting itch.

A stress ball, some malleable piece of material or pile of tiny magnets to make shapes with are 10 times better to actually fidget with.

I finally got mine yesterday. I had already purchased a knockoff one for comparison, and I don't find there to be much difference, honestly. The scroll wheels on the knockoff are a little louder and the 'bump' on the spinner is a little easier to use on the real one, but I consider them more-or-less interchangeable otherwise.

Where are you all getting your knock-offs from? I backed it but it seems like my order is in limbo at this point... (March? April? Nobody knows!) I'd like to get my hands on one sooner rather than later.

I want in on one of these, but i rather get the official kickstarter one to support the original founders. Any idea when they will take these to mass market?

Took 11 days to ship from CA to PA via DHL, the packaging was amazon tier with a giant box with no where near enough packaging, the fidget cube is secured in its plastic case with a small piece of adhesive so of course it'll break free and bounce back and forth inside and now that I've gotten it honestly I kinda like the $6 clone better.
I have sweaty hands, this thing is always trying to slip out of my hands and I can't fidget with it in any position comfortably.
One clone I got was made of a textured material and I could hold and fidget with that fine.
Build quality is also questionable, this feels cheaper than my clone and is already covered in scratches.
Kinda expected something better than what I got.
