Killzone: Shadow Fall Multiplayer Discussion

The most frustrating thing when nobody is placing spawn beacons is not that you must play support and sacrifice your unlocks, it's the goddamn fact that in order to win you need at least two beacons on the map...

Seriously, it's so easy to just use support for one run, plant a beacon and switch class, but if I'm the only support planting beacons, when my beacon is destroyed I need to start from the base with nobody covering me and it's a pain on some maps.

Not only people don't want to use support for like 30 seconds, but when they play assault they suck and they do not escort the support class and never use shields. I'm so tired of the shitty pulver and leading assault because my teammates are fucking morons with super weapons, shields, super speed and stun blasts but are affraid of getting killed.

Seriously, if you play as assault, you are invincible if a support is following you. Your only job is to rush, plant shields, stun enemies and being revived. I don't care about your killstreak, the supports need to stay alive, the assaults are cannon fodders.

The air support drones and to a lesser extent turrets really kill the multiplayer for me. It's completely antifun to get get killed by some annoying fucking bot. So I have to look up and unload a full clip into it, giving away my position and putting a big sign on my head saying "kill me now". Turrets can be annoying but you can use the environment as cover, go behind them and destroy them without firing a shot.

But a big knock on effect of the bots is lack of spawn beacons and supply beacons. 2 out of the 5 secondary abilities for supports are bots and they take a lot of kills for each to be levelled up. Like Me_Marcadet said you need at least two supports placing spawns to be successful. But frequently I am the only one in full player count games dropping spawn beacons. (It really makes me miss making a boost tactician in KZ2) I have maxed out the spawn beacons quickly because of this but I can't move on to a different ability or class because of how much we need to have spawns in a good place for the objective. If I do have other supports on my team there's a good chance they're placing bots all over the place instead of spawns, slowly trying to rank up their kill-based challenges. I have seen someone with supply beacons once and I don't think I've seen any players use the teleport. Just taking the 2 bot abilities off the support would lead to a much better game.

Ever since KZ2 I've felt that GG never quite understood why the Engineer's turrets worked in Team Fortress. The Engi in TF2 doesn't have much typical offensive capability, this is not really true for the support in SF as they have an arsenal of guns to choose from (it was sort of true for KZ2 engi as they only had the shotgun as a primary). In TF2 there is a nice counter for the turrets in the spy. If cloaked or disguised he can sneak by any turrets, drop a sapper disabling and damaging them and backstab an Engineer before he knows what's happened. In KZ2 the saboteur disguise didn't work on bots and the only thing that could be considered a counter was the Assault and his RPG. And that class led to many matches being ruined by rocket spam on maps like Blood Gracht and Radec. In SF there is no counter to the bots that I know of, they just exist as something left in from KZ2&3 for no reason.

It's annoying the support class has shitty weapons ( shotgun is fucking awesome but it's a shotgun, something you either love or hate, i love it so its fine for me sometimes).

I want to play support but every time I do I never know what weapon to use, shotgun is something I have to be in the mood to use. Rest are not that fun, compared to LMG's from KZ2 they suck.

Both the LMG and the Assault rifle for the support are really good. Nowhere near as good as the Rumbler, but still.

When I play Support my K/D goes to shit and in general I have less fun because I'm far less effective with their weapons. I usually get MVP though because it's outrageous how many points you get for spawn support and revive spam.

Use the Purger.

I use nothing else from the support class weapons

Shotgun is good but too limited. Voltage gun is only good for trolling choke points and the constant exploding sound effect is annoying as well. The Pulver's recoil and damage combo just doesn't work for me either. Never tried the Purger.

If only I could have the Keyzer and spawn beacons...

The Pulver is a pretty awesome gun. It's the only Support weapon I would even take seriously. Everything else is so spammy.

Yea its great but the time it takes to actually shoot is a bit too annoying.

I would have liked an high ROF weapon or something that was just a little more stable when shooting.

Still, the loss of the m82 ( KZ2) is something I still feel, such a great feeling gun. Even KZ M version was great. Its replacement though is pretty good.

My problem with the guns isn't that I find it hard to get kills or anything like that, my problem is that they feel... boring to use. Feel average in a sense (voltage and the Purger are good but have there own problems)

The Pulver with an ACOG is really good, my bread and butter as a Support. Burst fire at mid/long range and you're good to go. The Voltage is good mid/long, and it's great at taking out air drones and shields. Of course, the Sickle is awesome. I made an "Engie" load out with the Sickle and Turret; it is great at holding down areas. The Turret can be your long range gun while you watch the sides/rear or flank with the Sickle.

That GIF is inaccurate, that grenade would have hit the tree, get stuck and you would have killed yourself over it.

Oh okay. I'll take another look. Maybe I just didn't notice when setting up my classes. I re-used some weapons in other classes because I didn't see any more.
You an scroll to the right to see more weapons and abilities when setting up your loadouts. Didn't know that for days ;p

I find the Sickle pretty damn sickdicks on the majority of maps. Remains, Factory, Park, Wall, Penthouse, Spire, Slums... I will always initially opt for it on those.

Shoot-sway-shoot; it's amazing how easily you can take people out like that. And it's incredibly fun/satisfying to use. I just wish you could still dome people :(

shotgun sucks on the maps with more open spaces but its amazing in the smaller ones with cover and trenches. strafe shooting people in close quarters is so satisfying. my favorite support weapon by far.

do incendiary rounds increase your shotgun range? i'd found it pretty useless in close quarters so far as it seems to decrease the damage enough where I rarely can get 1 shot kills compared to stock and if I'm fighting someone decent, not getting that 1SK usually means death for me lol

Air drones are so egregious if you're playing scout or assault. It's rage inducing on the Forest in particular. Who honestly wants to stand in one spot and unload a full clip to kill one? It's exacerbated by the fact that you usually get the credit stolen while reloading so you don't even get those measly 50 points.

What I find silly is that the drones and turrets can detect cloaked Scouts. That just seems moronic to me. I mean, the ability isn't that advantageous to begin with, so it just seems overly harsh to not have it fool rudimentary AI.

Yeah, that annoyed me immensely back when I used to play scout. I love it when an air drone spawns right on top of you and you basically can't do shit to prevent it from killing you.

In Killzone 2 , the turrets are firing rockets at the air drone, taking them down faster. But in Shadow Fall, i think the idea is that the support is suppose to take down those drones. The support have the lock-on launcher that takes down air drones, nano shields and turrets in one hit. But it seems that not many people use this addon eventhough that they play as support.

I REALLY wish there was an option to switch the buttons for secondary fire and your secondary ability. I don't need to activate my flashlight or laser quickly while moving, but I may need to activate my AOE Stun. Really dumb design choice there.

Assault can take turrets out instantly with stun blast and nearly destroy/stun the air drones with it.

I agree with this. It also makes it confusing going between Campaign and MP.

Yeah I just unlocked it on Support and it's good for taking down drones. I also unlocked the ACOG scope for the Pulver which helps a lot too. Starting to click with this class.

The shield is really nice to take cover from turrets too.
It's so great to rush near an armed bomb, stun blast everyone, put a shield and defuse the bomb just by yourself.

Pulver is so much better with the ACOG. That gun really clicked for me at that point.

So much truth in here about not enough people putting down spawns. The people who go for support class are still playing the selfish game by only choosing turrents. In 150 games (roughly), I've only seen the resupply box 2 times and never seen anyone use support teleport other than myself.

Also guys, for people who're complaining about support having shit guns, I really have to disagree. The minigun (I've played the game for too long for not remembering names but oh well...) is amazing. It's brilliant for clearing out groups of people and I find myself regularly winning firefights with multiple assault class weilders. It does take a while to fire which can be offset by spinning it up slightly and keeping it that way when not sprinting. If you find yourself sprinting and running headlong into firefights, keep in mind what was said above. Assault is the cannon fodder. With each class you have to play differently or it won't work. The only problem I have with the minigun is the time it takes to turn with the damn thing. But this can be offset by increasing sensitivity.

The shotgun is also pretty good for a run and gun type thing and holding choke points in enclosed spaces. I find the incendiary rounds useless as they do less damage and don't even pass on the fire to other victims. Using this in combination with support teleport has been shall we say interesting.

The voltage gun is also pretty good but really only for long range I found. And yes I have to agree, the sound is bloody annoying.

Now my question, are the buddy drones invincible? Or am I just lagging? Unloaded most of a rumbler mag into one...

What do people thing about the submachine guns in assault? Personally I found them to be terrible... The Spoor on the otherhand is really quite good and would have been amazing if it wasn't for the burst fire.

Spammy or gimmicky. That's why 5 guns per class doesn't cut it if each gun isn't as good as the next (with trade-offs, of course). I don't like how GG deals with recoil and range -- it feels so artificial as opposed to how BC2 handled weapon classes.

Well, I downloaded the free demo and for some reason I can't play it. It has a little lock icon on the game and when I try to launch it, it displays this message:

Cannot start the application.
This application can be started only by a user who has a license for it.

Uhh... yeah. Also, I tried searching a couple of topics (and Google), but I couldn't find anything. Sorry if it's been addressed.

Same thing happened to me with BF4.

Try activating your PS4 as the primary PS4 and then resetting your licenses. Both options are found in SETTINGS > PSN, if I recall correctly. That did the trick for me.

Another thing that really annoys me is how you can't really tell if you're getting hit by a team mate or any enemy. Looks exactly the same to me pretty much.

I've learned to differentiate the two pretty easily now. Friendly fire will more or less spam the same light hue of red, whereas if you're actually taking damage, that hue deepens pretty damn quickly, as you know. It's more or less a split-second determination that you make on the spot, but yeah, slightly irksome in the heat of battle.

The lag is so horrible lately. It's such a shame because I really like the game, but it's such a waste of time to play such a laggy mess.

Also, if you play a 24 player Warzone game at The Slums, the framerate is like Blighttown in Dark Souls on PS3.

Yeah, the only indicator is whether you're taking damage and by then it's usually too late anyway.

then stop using that build. You basically want the class with the best abilities, best guns and be able to fuck up drones/turrets with ease. You can't have it all bro, it's called balance

I just sat down and seriously tried mp tonight, and I have to say I'm hooked. I love the weighty feel of everything; I'm not just gliding through the levels like COD, and things don't devolve into a who saw who first when it comes to kills. I love playing support, but like many here have said it's frustrating to watch people running around not placing spawns and trying to rack up kills, while the whole team dies repeatedly around them. I'm sure the more I play the more irritants I'll discover, but as of now I'm loving it. I miss the melon popping for sure though.

Anyone looking for a not so great player who values teamwork can add me - perineumlick on PSN. Let me know that you're from GAF though.

Edit - shame on me for not reading the OP. Added my name to the spreadsheet; sorry!

Shadow Fall has become one of my favourite games for multiplayer, but the weapon/ability redistribution and tweaks among classes in this iteration is just so goddamn awful. Scout's ability tool-set encourages close range encounters but has the weakest arsenal for close-mid range; Assault's extremely light in terms of skill usefulness, while the smg/rifles, excellent as they are in all situations, offers little variation; Supports not only gets the best of both worlds in terms of skills and weaponry, but all of them are extremely effective.

Hypothetical changes I would like to see:

Scout
-Enable weapons during Cloak; or at the very least, sidearms
-Tactical Echo doesn't give enemy visual cue of your position
-A full auto smg/rifle (Keyzer perhaps)

Assault
-Buddy Drone needs to be reworked so it doesn't actively tries to murder/kamikaze you
-Failing the above, Buddy Drone and Air Support need to switch classes
-Nano shield not requiring a second prompt to activate
-Access to some of the heavy weaponry (Sickle and Purger would be my pick) while removing some redundant ones (Breacher, Keyzer, Vlug)

Support
-Voltage needs serious nerfs across the board. Shot charge, delay, damage, blast radius, reserve ammo, spread, range
-Larger fire spread for Purger, increased rev time
-Air Support damage reduced, drop detection on cloaked units, range reduced, uptime reduced
-No despawn for deployed Supply Box (as long as loadout is active) , visual cues for own team
-Removal of certain heavy weapons (Sickle, Purger), Breacher as the replacement shotgun
-Limited use on Spawn Beacon, or uptime reduced
-Turret firing angle reduced
