Kojima explained that while he was watching the main Summer Game Fest presentation, he felt like every game shown involved the player fighting either an alien or a medieval monster. Even the visuals and the systems are pretty much the same," Kojima said, "and a lot of people enjoy this, I understand, but it is important to put something really new in there for the industry."

According to the report, Kojima also stated that he doesn't play many big-budget games these days because he finds the most interesting work is in indie games, while big-budget games are safe and boring.

Kojima was also asked if he would be playing Konami's upcoming remake of his game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, to which he reportedly laughed and said "no, I won't".

Recalling an anecdote in which he visited a notable studio (which wasn't named) to advice on a new stealth game it was working on, Kojima said he was unimpressed with what he was shown.

"People who are making military games, they probably don't know how to dismantle a gun or shoot a gun," he explained. "So that's kind of sad."

Asked whether he could dismantle a gun, Kojima replied: "Yes, because I've been doing this training as well, and I learned so many ways to kill people as well."

This is basically me now. I play very few AAAs these days and when I do, it's almost always something familiar, like a new Resident Evil, Zelda or Final Fantasy. But when it comes to indies and AA, I try lots of genres and different IPs. I'm not afraid to experiment and try out new things. AA and indies is where the magic happens for me.

You can like or dislike the games he makes, but you can't deny that this guy is unique, has a vision, and sticks to it.
One of the last remaining true OGs out there.
So do most weirdos. Dude is so in love with himself and his own name. I don't think I've ever seen a director of any kind interject themselves into every single one of their projects. Quinton Tarantino might be the closest, but even he isn't in love with himself like Kojima is.

Very based kojima always. What he said is true. Too much generic and over budget games since they think its easy buck, and thus abandoning innovation and creativity. This is why Kojima and also Miyamoto are true legends for innovation and creativity while maintaining fun, beautiful, and cerebral games. And about not playing mgs3 remake, of course he will not play mgs3 remake after what konami had done to him, so he stays with his principles and protect his dignity.

What a tosser.

Snake Eater Delta is the game I'm most excited for this year. Can. Not. Wait.

But don't tell him that, or he'll get his navy SEAL copypasta out on you because he's been doing this training as well, and he learned so many ways to kill people as well.

Steven Spielberg is likelier more deadly than Kojima.

I'll always thank Kojima for the MGS series ... but after MGS4 I highly doubt he will ever make a game I want to play again.

Imho since MGS5 his games took a nose dive in quality and sky rocketed in craziness .... everytime he speaks is to say something very edgy that he thinks is very clever... this guy really is full of hinself and loves the smell of his own farts.

I'm a bit surprised that he doesn't want to check it out considering how truthful the Remake looks. I mean, it looks like they didn't even update the animations that much but just gave it a fresh coat of paint.

I agree with him on that most AAA games kind of look mostly the same. I couldn't really tell most of those soulslike games apart from the last Sony show and so most of the show was fucking boring.

I downloaded mgs4 on my ps5 pro not sure if there's any boost stuff going on but I know it ran at 1080p 60fps on PS4.

For a 2016 the console version looks incredible. The fox engine is something else. Insane they never kept and used it properly. Mgs3 remake in fox engine would run and look way better than 900p unreal trash

Many, if not all, AAA game devs/studios today abstain from trying to stray away and do their own thing. He's just recognizing a trend within current AAA gamedev. There's a remarkable lack of individuality.

Its more of principle and his dignity. He was not given respect by Konami.

I mean…my favorite game this year so far is made by a studio i didn't know it even existed (Clair Obscur) and my favorite game last year was Team Asobi's proper first title not counting their VR game so maybe he has a point.

About not wanting to play Delta…not surprised.

funny cause most of DS2 looks exactly the same as DS1 only he did a palette swap.
Did you actually own and play the whole game? First it is a sequel there will always have elements that remaina the same. Second, for me, it is the best looking game this generation even on base ps5. Even majority of critics and digital foundry agrees it is a beautiful game.

I love it when proven game devs give the no fluff answers to interviewers.
The AAA industry is trash right now (and has been for a long time) - and needs to be called out.

Reminds of an Itagaki interview - im all for it.
Call out this junk we are seeing.
Someone's gotta do it.

That is why I miss Sony Japan Studio with there A and AA games. To many bloated budget AAA and AAAA games and worse, some are woke infested with twisted gender ideology crap.

Delta looks kind of mid. However, the korean MGS they showed it's an AAA that looks incredible.

Though he has a point, he's exaggerating it so much that misses the mark. Mainstream AAA are samey, but you can find easily good ones too.

Is that the one with a Kpop idol as one of the protagonist? I excited about that game. After Stellar blade, I trust Korean games quality.
