Max Payne is the greatest dead franchise

Even ahead of Fzero in my humble opinion. Will we ever see a new instalment of Max Payne again? The way Rockstar is going I don't think so.

Max Payne 3 was a masterpiece.

Just played through it recently and realised how it's better than 99% of games today.

Max Payne 3 is fun but the writing is terrible. Max's quips every time he takes a pain killer make me want to Dig Inside My Skull And Scrape Out The Pain.

MP2 is the GOAT. I hope the remakes are great.

I don't know about teh greatest dead franchise, but the Max Payne game are indeed very good and somewhat underappreciated. Max Payne 2 has some really good writing and a great atmosphere. 3 is also excellent but has some irritating characters and washy writing. 3 is gorgeous and plays well though, it's s shame it wasn't more popular.
 
The remastered trilogy is coming after GTA VI is "released" (even tho there will be continuous support), but these games simply take way too long to get out of the door at this point.

And with the poor reception of the remastered GTA Classics trilogy, Rockstar may not be willing to outsource anymore.
 
Max Payne 2 is the best of the trilogy. I wish 3 had been set in NYC. There's something magical about running around blasting dudes in the snow and rain in NYC.

Max my fav. gaming character ever, Fav. trilogy ever and MP3 is best TPS of all time. MP2 & MP1 are among GOAT games. Max's story ended on a good note and i would like to not see a new game. Thats weird buts how i htink.

All good things must come to an end and some good things must be left as they are. Hyped for remakes though
 
Remedy is literally remaking max payne 1 and 2, series literally is anything but dead lol

If those sell well you think that Rockstar wouldn't allow them to make a new one under similar terms? (btw, for all the Rockstar doom and gloom around here, allowing remedy to work on the series again seems pretty consumer friendly and pro-single player)
 
I bought the OG with the intention of playing it on Series X, but it's just sitting in my backlog. The only game in the series I've ever played is the GBA one and it was not great.

I had beaten Max Payne 3 back when it came out and played the first 2 games this year
for the first time, I can confidently say it's the best trilogy of games ever

I dont think the typical gamer considers remakes equal to sequels. If two remakes are being made, a Max Payne 4 will either never be made or perhaps made in 2032. And that assumes there isn't a Max Payne 3 remake after those games first.

The biggest obstacle for Max Payne 4 is it's a SP kind of game and not the kind which would latch on tons of mtx even though Max Payne 3 had MP.

Aren't there numerous games in development? I remember hearing about a 2 remake, a new one, and one being made by bloober team

I might be mixing them up, but I am fairly positive that I've heard the silent hill 2 and bloober games mentioned at separate times

To each their own I suppose.

I'd be more inclined to agree with you if they were remasters and not ground up remakes, but you could very well be right about MP4.
 
I'd rather Max Payne and every other great franchise stay dead than receive sequels that compromise the themes, the tone, and the styles of the originals. If developers want to do something different make a new IP.

It's not that developers cant innovate, but the developers who made these classics are all retired, their studios closed or irrevocably changed, so sometimes you should lay IP to rest because the talent just isnt there or available to do justice to a lot of these games.

(As a side note, one of the many things I hate Max Payne 3 for is that its basically a glorified Time Crisis game in the way it immediately removes the players control after gunfights for a pointless cutscene showing Max opening a door. It gets ridiculous at points.)
 
I think I have hard copies of all the Payne games somewhere. I also just found them for dirt cheap on Steam and Rockstar.
I prefer constipated Max Payne, myself.
 
1 and 2 are amazing. 3 only head some good aspects to it but unskippable cutscenes every new room are hard to swallow.
So it's best 2 games. Not best franchise

They both are, but Rockstar must oversee the project.

…Not until after 2024-2025 it seems, however, by my estimate.

Remedy is locked into other games currently and I don't believe Rockstar would allow anyone else outside of OG content creators to remaster their games anymore. Grove St Games won't be reproducing "beloved" franchises anymore (despite its sales, which could've increased with proper goodwill).

I'm replaying Max Payne 3 PC version at 4k 120fps and it's glorious!
As a Brazilian I consider the voice acting pretty shitty in that game (albeit funny)
