Max Payne is the greatest dead franchise

Even ahead of Fzero in my humble opinion. Will we ever see a new instalment of Max Payne again? The way Rockstar is going I don't think so.

Max Payne 3 was a masterpiece.

Just played through it recently and realised how it's better than 99% of games today.

Totally. The only thing that holds Max Payne 3 back are the un-skippable cutscenes (unless you're on PC), but, other than that, its still a top notch game.

Shit like this does not happen often anymore and what's more Rockstar hasn't delivered something quite like this in a while.

Its a shame the game also undeservedly sank the studio who made it.

I think it got lots of flak for it at the time of release--even from me. But 1) people are going to be more likely to play on PC nowadays anyway and 2) they have a built-in "arcade" type mode after you beat the game that lets you skip to the best parts.

I wonder who makes the crappy GBA versions of games. What a depressing job.
Don't worry; they're all dead now. rip sweet princes, your toil is over

All Wrong, Metal Gear is the greatest dead franchise. Revolutionary series, dead forever, not a smidgen of hope on the horizon. At least there is for F Zero, Max Payne etc

I bought the OG with the intention of playing it on Series X, but it's just sitting in my backlog. The only game in the series I've ever played is the GBA one and it was not great.

Not great in comparison, but a pretty damn good GBA game in its own rights, TBH.

I would love a Max Payne 3 remake.

I dont think the typical gamer considers remakes equal to sequels. If two remakes are being made, a Max Payne 4 will either never be made or perhaps made in 2032. And that assumes there isn't a Max Payne 3 remake after those games first.

The biggest obstacle for Max Payne 4 is it's a SP kind of game and not the kind which would latch on tons of mtx even though Max Payne 3 had MP.

I'd hope that some big budget single player games can still get out the door. Sad day for gaming if that stops being the case.

Even if they have to reign in the spending just a tiny bit.

I remember getting Max Payne on the PS2 just off the strength of GTA III by Rockstar at the time. The slow mo and the NYC setting was so fucking dope.

Max Payne 2 I never bothered to play even though I own the game; I think I was busy with shit like Splinter Cell and playing WoW back then.

It's interesting that people feel like that. I have felt every game Remedy has released has been a Max Payne sequel since they are all just offshoots building on and changing up the mechanics. I love Remedy games, and never really felt like Max Payne stood above Alan Wake, Quantum Break or Control. Max Payne was the original but other than that, I wouldn't put it above the others.

I would gladly take a sequel, but would be just as happy with sequel to any of their games.

I still have yet to play a single "Max Payne" game, I hope that I will end up enjoying it, it's been way too long since I found a new IP for myself and actually went with it.

Except the drug induced/dream scene where you follow the bloodline to get to the screaming baby. I fuckin hate scenes like that. Gtfo with that shit.

Max Payne 3 is fun but the writing is terrible. Max's quips every time he takes a pain killer make me want to Dig Inside My Skull And Scrape Out The Pain.

MP2 is the GOAT. I hope the remakes are great.
I ain't slipping, man. I'm slipped. I absolutely love the writing in 3.

Wait there was a GBA version of the original Max Payne and I'm only now hearing of this?!

Looks fun (and different) too. I wonder if I can get my hands on it.

About the main discussion, I loved the original game, and had a great time with third one (with some minor complaints about the gameplay), but was not so warm on Max Payne 2. The extreme rag doll physics kind of ruined it for me, and the story was weaker.

For me, the series is complete and I don't really wish for another installment -- but probably wouldn't say no either if they announced a new one.

I would like a better closure to Remedy's Quantum Break game -- maybe with a sequel that would feature more exciting gameplay and less cutscenes than the first one.

Dead?

Remedy literally just got the rights to do a remake of 1 and 2.

Who knows what else could be coming for Max Payne with these possibilities now.

What ever you think the greatest dead franchise is, is the greatest dead franchise.

Mine is F-Zero
Wave race
Metroid prime (is four ever coming out?)
Max Payne

Virtua fighter

Metroid Prime also takes it for me. The vaporware smell of Prime 4 is undeniable.

Having said that, Max Payne 3 is indeed an amazing shooter

I wonder how they're approaching the remake. Will it have the trademark comic book cutscenes? Or the drunken Man on Fire Tony Scott ones? Will they alter the mechanics or story in any way? How will it compare to Max Payne 3 which they didn't make, or Quantum Break/Control which they did? If only every great "dead" franchise were to get a chance like this, at least. Or if Rockstar made more games like Manhunt, The Warriors, and Bully.

R*'s real unsung dead franchise is Midnight Club btw. Wish we got another one, so much more intense than either NFS or Forza Horizon.

Never heard of this max pain guy, is the game good?

Just kidding! Still have the rain on the warehouse in my head as one of the better early audio experiences from way back......

You don't see "Max Payne Online" coming? I do.
Perhaps if they turned Max Payne into a sandbox game...but as it stands, the equivalent was a bog standard online multiplayer in Max Payne 3, and from what I remember it was pretty damn fun.

Also considering the state of RDR Online, it doesn't seem likely they would try to tap that particular vein again here. If a theoretical Max Payne 4 is open world, however, I concede your prediction probably would hold more water than mine.

I bought MP3 years ago because I loved 1&2 and want the series to have success, but the somewhat mixed reviews still have me uncertain about whether I should ever play it or just pretend it never happened.
