Microsoft: ROG Xbox Ally Will Play All Games Available For PC – Including PlayStation’s Games

Apart from GTA 6 coming aren't all Xbox games on pc?
If you own those games on Xbox, you can't play them on this device - unless they have the "Play Anywhere" feature enabled.

If you own those games on a PC storefront, like Steam or Epic, you can play those games on this device.

So it's not just a matter of where those games were published. It's also a matter of where you bought those games.

Xbox zealots so desparate to play sony games they'll buy a $900 PC with an xbox sticker so they can play 3 year old releases
take THAT sony!

Think About It GIF by Identity

Isn't this just a ROG Ally with an Xbox button and a trimmed down version of windows or something? Like no shit it'll play games the other portable PCs play.

Serious question.

Why would Sony waste the effort to stop selling games to a very small niche product in a line of products that is near death anyhow?

This product will never get the amount of traction Geforce Now ever got
Hulst will only allow "Xbox" ROG users to play Horizon from Sony's library. He will pay off Gaben to make it happen!

Yeah, this is nonsense since we are talking about playing PC games on PC.

All signs, indications and our resident prophet HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 are pointing towards there being a next traditional Xbox console in development.
I shouldn't have cut out the part where they indicated it were coming out on the 25th anniversary, next year.

Although, I also have doubts it will come to fruition in future too as I believe new orders came through Dec/Jan. But we'll see.

No idea what its name will be, likely something stupid and confusing
I got to think it can't just be "pure" Xbox OS console. They have to include some sort of a hybrid mode so PC games can run.

The audience for an actual Xbox (premium one perhaps) in 2026-2027 is going to be very limited.

Hopefully this will be the wake up call for Sony on how it releases its game that is ultimately hurting its own platforms.

Echoing what I've been saying for years about Microsoft, since the Xbox one era they are running a disruption campaign and unfortunately for Sony it's working. Nintendo has s unfazed by it as long as they keep their IP's exclusive to their platforms.

My enjoyment is the modding ability to those Sony IPs.

Resetera dosent care about console warring against Sony.. witch is crazy because current california Sony is woke as fuck

Well, they got us Marvel Tokon with Arc System Works developing, so they aren't a lost cause.

Sony, I mean.

Keep dreaming.

Next year is 25th anniversary of what?

Xbox console, not pc.

We are getting, Halo - Gears - Forza and …. a next gen xbox console.

It's not going to be a "console". It's going to be a Windows PC optimized more for gaming (preferably beyond what these ROG Xbox devices can do currently) and BC with as many Xbox games as possible (maybe through an extensive emulation or translation layer).

You're thinking about a "console" to go up directly against PS6. That's not happening anymore.

So at this point just port it to Xbox consoles too. There is no difference anymore.

When rumor of this stuff first start like 18 months ago, I thought it'd be MS integrating more Windows compatibility (locked down and abstracted through some hypervisor layer) to Xbox OS, because they already started that to an extent with Dev Mode.

Instead it's more like they're doing the opposite: bringing Xbox features & compatibility to Windows. They're probably toying with the thought of doing both but in actuality, they'll have to choose one or the other. And I think those next "traditional" Xbox devices are going to be more of Windows with Xbox features/compatibility added, including for BC.

It's not going to be a "traditional" system like Series X & S though. It won't be subsidized or competing at volume with PS6 and Switch 2, there simply isn't enough of a customer base for Microsoft to justify that aspect of a console strategy any longer.

The sooner people accept that the sooner they can accept those next "traditional" Xboxes are going to be hybrids with lots in common with this ROG device and devices like it.

This indeed what Microsoft is going to do I will go a step further by saying the next Xbox console won't be make by them. Microsoft will license the brand out and let third parties go buck wild. That way they have no overhead from r&d and they key to their strategy of "everything's an Xbox".

lmao hurting its own platforms... like sony didn't leave xbox dead and cold back in the ps4 gen
People who talk about exclusives being the be all and end all don't understand that the majority of the world doesn't care about God of War or Metroid.. They're playing Fortnite and some other GAAS games.

PC plays PC games.

Where's the news?
You are wrong......Xbox branded hardware will play PlayStation branded games.
If the next Xbox console plays all PC games(steam/epic/ubi etc. launchers) basically you also have major PlayStation branded games on your console.
So lets think in the moment....why will I need to buy next PS6 hardware when I can get next Xbox & play all games on it & all libraries I have for PC & Xbox + Game Pass ( who will be cheaper because PC Game Pass).
Hell I can even emulate Switch & PS4 games if needed :messenger_beaming:
Smart move MS....I will give you that.

Playing recent PS games on the go done by Asus before Sony is wild.
FTFY.
So at this point just port it to Xbox consoles too. There is no difference anymore.
I've seen a concerning amount of Xbox port begging of Sony games from you. Why is that?
Yep. It's right there in the reveal video.

As for the topic, this is a nothing burger. If you're interested in slop like God of War 2018 or Spider-Zzzz 2, those have been on PC for awhile now. Just a dramatic talking point for grifters and warriors to bicker about.
I still don't get why you believe you're above warriors when you made this post solely to say bolded.

Xbox branded controllers have been playing Playstation games for years, I must have missed all the buzz.

Not really a console though. It's a PC with an xbox sticker, you can do that right now.

Sounds like you just discovered the benefits of PC gaming. Why wait for an "Xbox" next year? You can do all those things now.

correct. literally runs the PC version of the game. This isnt always a good thing. Take Halo for instance. The PC version lacks couch coop play (without mods).

This Ally?

I imagine the same policies will apply as they do on normal PC storefronts.
Of course. The only Xbox subscription needed on PC is Game Pass.
I think it's interesting that a major company is going for a hardware device that doesn't require any subscription to play online.

Wish they'd put more focus on that on their marketing, seems like a good adventage over the competition and it could end up making Sony and Nintendo consider dropping the paid online scam. Very optimistic, I know.

You can't play native Xbox console games on it, which are locked behind their own paywall. Streaming your games will be locked behind a paywall.

This is a niche device. Nothing more. In fact, it's a vehicle to get people into their very own paid online ventures and Play Anywhere titles.

Come on now, really? So to access your "xbox ecosystem" or whatever they call it, you need a subscription?

lol
So what makes you think MS of all people, which is an entirely subscription based company, is going to be the vehicle to force Sony or Nintendo not to?
