I think we in the West, epsecially America, have fallen for our own mythology of heroic George Washington and his band of merry founding fathers leading a grassroots rebellion against tyranny, but forget that England was a loooooong way from America and we had some pretty big help from some of Englands deadliest enemies. So the notion that local Iranian common folk will rise up with just a little nudging by America is perhaps a bit optimistic.

Sadly, I suspect we will write some new treaties, walk away cheering success, Iran will take a few years to consolidate, kill a few million malcontents, and return to their old ways, and we will be back at it by 2030.

Distance and speed of communication played towards our advantage against the British. We were able to slow walk our way towards a unified front across the colonies while waiting for the King to respond to our grievances. It is quite the opposite for the Iranian people.
