I think western countries should forget about the Hornuz, find different supply routes.

Regardless of how this all ends, it's no longer a reliable way of getting oil, since Iran will probably start weekly threats to close it again to get whatever they want.

Unfortunately no real viable efficient and economical alternative routes exists.

It's also interesting to me that Iranian oil exports have continued largely unimpeded by the US. Despite the significant damage inflicted on the regime, export volumes don't appear to have meaningfully declined from pre-war levels.

That's cause the oil is headed to China, the USA could easily sink every Iranian tanker but they don't want to involve China.

Pipelines seem like the best solution to this, Saudis already have them, add more. Iran is no longer a trustworthy actor (not that they ever were, but now it's clear to the world).

That's cause the oil is headed to China, the USA could easily sink every Iranian tanker but they don't want to involve China.

Yeah the US is clearly trying to cushion the shock to global oil supply as much as possible.

China has already begun pulling back its refined fuel exports to secure its own domestic reserves. For countries like Australia, where I am, that's a serious vulnerability. We're heavily reliant on imported refined fuel, particularly from China, and only hold a few weeks' worth of reserves. As a result, diesel and jet fuel are increasingly being prioritised for industry and other critical sectors.

Also doesn't help that there are idiots here hoarding fuel and ruining it for everyone else.
