Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT2| "OT" means Official Thread!

Man Pink Rath has beat me twice now, generally last 35-40 minutes, but my twin acrus just don't seem strong enough. Second time I even trapped her twice and demon danced three times on her. I'm okay at knowing when to back off, generally just get caught when trying to sharpen or something. She might put a stop to my holding on to low rank armor in hopes of making it to Volvi. Second run was better, but didn't seem like I'm even close. Wonder what other weapons I could make, only a scalp and slime away from Dios Slicers. Might try brach in solo port, maybe I can get lucky, you guys all seem to be taking him on today.

I've been meaning to ask, is there a Monster Hunter series community thread?

I spent 2 weeks straight in freedom 2 trying to get a tigrex skull shell... I'm hoping this will be more lenient on me.

This leads me to ask, what is the longest amount of time you've all spent farming a monster for a single item?

I spent about a month in Portable 3rd farming Duramboros in order to get a Tailbone. I really wanted the MGS armor. Farming low rank Monoblos in MHFU for four hearts didn't take that long for crying out loud.

1. Yes but none uses it
2. Zinouga jewels in portable 3rd, must have killed 50 of those thing and only got 2 jewels.

Arrogant Smirk
....Yeah. Dude. Those make me want to gouge my eyes out. Especially the first one, with the absurd number of garish turquoise spikes. Sorry. Tastes and all that, but these quite honestly make my eyes bleed. :)

it was those low rank skull shells and then I had an off and on month long quest for two Heavenly Rathalos scales for my Rath Soul Z set in MHFU. That was a lot of G-rank volcano runs.

I need some early G rank bowguns and bow armor sets.
For LBG, I recommend an Artian X mix of some kind. If you can tackle high rank Alatreon, round it off with Element Atk +1 via decorations and an evasion skill perhaps. You'll want the Rathling Phoenix for flame shot, Tabula Blizzara for ice shot, Maelstrom+ for water shot, and Despot's Wildfire for thunder shot.

For HBG, I do like having Evade Extender available but Sand Barioth doesn't show up until the 7 star quests, so something like Barioth U or Nibelsnarf X might have to suffice. The whole Rathian line starting with the Queen's Scionfire is good for normal shot. The Nargacuga line starting with the Baleful Night is great for pierce shot, but it'll take a couple of upgrades to really shine. Finally, the Peco guns will have to do for pellet in the near term.

I'm not much help with bows, though!

I want to learn the gunlance, do you have something to say to a novice? I'm reading a guide right now, it's very different from my main weapons.

Learn the strings and learn what strings will chain into a fast way to block or a the best way to attack. The GL has so many of them and they're key to using it. Unlike most weapons you can't get away with just knowing one set of buttons

I haven't tried GL in MH3U but it was my favorite weapon in MHFU and this is so true. Also one of my favorite things to do was use Wyvern Fire when the monster was sleeping to wake it up or kill it depending on the health.

Spent a couple of weeks on those stupid Gravios skulls in Freedom Unite that required you to break the shell off of a Shogun Ceanataur's back. What a pain in the ass that was, first off all it didn't always spawn with a Gravios skull on its back and half the time the Ceanataur died before the skull broke.

More recently in MH3U, I was building the Lagiacrus X set and trying to get 2 Lagi Hardhorns probably took me like 20-30 Lagi kills.

At this point this thread doubles as one.

And for the second question, Cloudy Moonshards is my answer. They are the bane of my existence....

Got back into the game and even picked up the Wii u version as part of the MK8 promotion. I wasn't planning on it but I accidentally bought one code too much and none of the other games interested me. Plus I want to finish each quest at least once and the super versions of monster are out of my league. Only managed to defeat the event I. Lagi and that was by the skin of my teeth; 47s left, last trap and I had to hit it one last time to capture it.

Hunting online has been awesome; everyone was really nice and the monster go down so fast. When 4 hunters mercilessly wail on a monster I can't help but feel bad for the poor thing :/
Shout-out to DaBoss (and everyone else I hunted with) and sorry for all the tripping/upswinging. This was only my 2nd day online so I'm not yet used to having to pay attention to other people.

Also, call me crazy but I prefer the 3DS version; better framerate, better buttons and the controls feel more responsive. I might get a LAN adapter to play online with the 3DS...

Oh, and those stuck playing solo should use the Artillery mask (Quick Recovery, Rocketeer ) and Lamp mask (Attack Boost, Seven Lives, Quick Recovery) combo. I've only discovered it recently and it really helps bring down monster much faster. With the right skills it even allows for this kind of shenanigans. Unfortunatelly, the Artillery mask is only unlocked after you defeat Village Jhen.

I think it was 20~ Brachys for 2 gems, otherwise I've been quite lucky with the quest rewards and shinies. Cha-Cha and Kayamba also helped me out a few times.

Ya Volvi armor is ugly as sin. Terrible too because it does have some good skills. I have never and will never use it. G rank jhen is also on my shit list.

For armors that I do like, the g rank lagi series, Los series, and parts of ceadues off the top of my head. Zin as well.

Zinogre is so sexy I went out of my way to make it. Probably took ten hours for a high rank suit I pretty much immediately dropped for Rath Soul.

I recognized your username and I know it isn't common, so I was surprised to see you there. I was playing with randoms just farming for Los Mantles. they were nice people and it was fun.

I've been playing online with the 3DS using the packet relay tool on the Wii U with the adapter and it has been fine these past 2 weeks.

MHF2, 19 Lao Shan Lungs for my first ruby.

Thanks, appreciated.

In about 900 hrs of MH1 I only ever got 1 Rathalos plate. It's amusing to see people complain about current drop rates.
WTF. O_O

I'm going to jump on in about 30 minutes. Anyone rooms up?

I have the lbgs God's Isle and the Pink Rathian ones. Scored them from rustshards, are they worth keeping? IIRC God's Isles is pretty good in previous MHs.

Its all luck and random. Either that or desire sensor as they say. I don't mind grinding for items occasionally since I need the zenny any way. I ain't even mad that the items I want don't turn up.

Two more things I've notice about online.
-a 4th person will almost always arrive just as you've begun the quest.
-disconnects after a failed quest can make you look like a jerk

I've been playing with randoms only because I wanted to get some online exp before hunting with fellow gaffers. Also, apart from the A. Lagi Dynamo that I got pretty quickly, I'm not looking for any specific parts. I'm just trying to get all the monster crowns.

That's good to hear. I've already begun looking online for a good deal on the adapter.

1% carve from the tail... yeah, I can see that. Was it at least possible to obtain it as a quest reward?

Barioth X armor is the G.O.A.T

The God's Archipelago is used in all sorts of LBG speedruns so it's definitely a good weapon. But taking the limiter off to mix status and explosive shots is an unconventional style of gunning that requires some practice.

I prefer Barioth Z. I like how it looks, but its mix of Attack and Evade Dist along with a 3 slot leg piece makes parts of it essential for my best HBG sets.

I only played like two hours of MH 1 but wasn't the plate like crazy rare? Like below 1% in that game or something?

Well finished up Wroggi S armor last night, rematch with Pink Rath tonight I hope. Should be easier now, higher def, no more negative fire from Jaggi, but extra fire def from Wroggi, negate poison, I should be fine now, Really her fire blast was what kept hitting me so hard.

Picked up a copy of the game for the 3DS as well, figure good for MH4 practice and on the go gaming. But I can't play it at all without the other joystick, so I just ordered a circle pad pro as well, hopefully that clears up the issue.

I hope that claw add on makes it over here.

It was indeed. But there was a final urgent quest you could unlock in the offline village for Los & Ian double hunt, which actually had the "online" difficulty and drops, so it was possible to obtain the plate there. This is how I got all of my plates in that game... cutting the tails, carving, abandoning if no plate.

The CPP I guess is fairly rare here in the USA, I found a Japanese one on Amazon and ordered that. My understanding is they are not restricted to regions or anything. So you could possibly find one? Not sure how rare they are, although it does look pretty comfortable.

I might be able to in about 8 hours or so...

Flame is the most common kind of elemental attack, so it helps to have some resistance to it. That's another reason Volvidon armor is easy to recommend through low and high rank if possible.

Importing is always an option! Circle Pad Pros are just fancy IR emitters and are region-free.

The only experience I have with the 3DS version of 3U is back before I got into the series, but wouldn't using the virtual d-pad to look around while moving and the physical d-pad to look around while attacking work well enough?

I might be alone, but I try not to use my fingers at all with the touch screen. So that would mean managing the stylus as well, and it just wasn't easy to pick up after using the Wii U controls for a while. I don't doubt I'll get my monies worth out of the CPP.

Yea, it does work, but you should get a CPP (XL). Much better than using the virtual D-Pad and is makes it more comfortable to hold the 3DS (XL).

I learned GL solo-ing the I.Lagi DLC (cruel king of the sea). One hit/mistake and you're dead. After that GL other monsters (except those other super monster DLC) becomes easy.

Is it true you can corrupt your save data if you access your blank Wii U data after transferring to 3DS, or accessing your blank 3DS data after transferring to Wii U? Would there be a safe way to find out if I didn't remember which system I had my save data on?

iirc it will tell you the data is 'locked' if you try to access the one you didn't play last and give you a choice if you want to continue.
