Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT2| "OT" means Official Thread!

Anybody down to play online? Someone should make a room, I have one open but would rather join a game since my Internet is terrible.

ok, ok.

That Event Lagiacrus quest?

It's fucking BULLSHIT.

Failed five times with three different groups. Impossible to do with randoms. >_<

edit: got me twice, too. Hits like a motherfucker and has seemingly endless health. Poisoned, para'd, trapped, bombed. Still alive and kicking and flailing and comboing melee guys and one-shotting gunners. Toughest fight in the game along with village Alatreon right now (imo).

/salty rant

Conversely to the I. Lagi rant above, I haven't felt such relief and satisfaction over a hunt since I last played mfhu. Really intense hunt, dragged me back to earth and reminded me I can still be a monsters bitch. Had to make a evade2 status2 set for my para sns, which along with Felyne specialist gave me 4 paras during the fight. And now I've a shiny new event weapon to play with :-D

Another question for those expert hunters. I got a new set today and it has a Dragon Atk skill. But in my status screen , that skill appears greyed out. What does this mean?

I have 2+3 gem slots left unused. Can I slip in another skill with that?

I don't remember exactly what skills they are, but the ones that give you +2 skill points per gem. Perception (Capture Guru) is the one that I can remember.

Finally "beat" the village quests. The ending CG is awesome.

Since I have zero desire to go through all the quests to unlock the last two, we're just gonna have to wait for Alatreon to show up on DLC.

You're not a real hunter!

Dem golden checkmarks man!

Now wait until G-Rank Alatreon.

There will be pain.
There's a reason the quest in Japanese is called "Second Coming of God"

Does anyone know if the Weapon Coating+ skills only add that coating to a weapon, or increase the amount of a coating if I double it up?

I haven't tried it yet, but can you have multiple sets using the same decorations and switch between them without trouble?

Would Critical Eye+1 (10% affinity) stack with a weapon with 30% affinity. Is there a cap on affinity?

I don't think that you can go higher then 80%, at least that's what I have and couldn't find a weapon with more then 50% affinity.

Megrez's Asterism (Long Sword) 50% + Critical Eye 3 = 80%

Avidya Axe (Switch Axe) 50% + Critical Eye 3 = 80%

I think those are the only two weapons that will get you 80% affinity, but there are a lot of different ones that can get you 70% though.

I get 95% with latent power +2, crit eye +3 and pale kaiser.

The only two village quests I have left before the Argosy Captain shows back up are Jhen and Ceadeus.

Urk. :/

Stupid worthless alternate-gameplay fights.

Made my Gunlance set since I'm gonna start GL'ing. Uragaan Z:

Yes! Uragaan Z is so awesome for Gunlance. I'm aiming for endgame Gunlances now, having gotten Zvolta and Disasualty already. Your Guard Boost and Guard +2 looks awesome though, I wish I can get that Charm.

I feel like 4 player quests are preferable to soloing with ChaCha and Kayamba, but Eventacrus has me doubting that.

But Village Jhen is fun and my favourite of the huge monsters. His splendid armor is also great for G rank GS users.

Jhen>Dire Miralis>>>> Alatreon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Gold Ceadeus>>Ceadeus

Does anybody know how much Fate+15 (Great Luck) affects reward items?

Does it increase the percentages of particular drops or give you more items overall?

I think it gives you more items. For example, I got two Brachy Pallium in row B when doing ''A cold day in hell'', but the list of possible rewards only lists a single one per row.
Even the description says: ''Often increases the number of reward items received at the end of a quest.''

Quests have a set of reward items (the first two rows), GL increases the number of reward items you get.

I heard Rage Match (two Jhos) gives Crooks as rewad, so if you complete that quest with GL you will increase the chances of getting one or two Crooks.

On the other hand, GL is useless if you want to get, say... Gobul Lanterns (break Gobul lantern) because that's a break reward (third row).

Capture Master works in the same way, but for capture rewards.

Oh there's no way to increase break rewards, it's one item for every part you break.

I haven't tried it yet, but can you have multiple sets using the same decorations and switch between them without trouble?
YES! It's the best new feature of this game. I only need enough decorations to go with one talisman and I can use them in multiple sets. Only tricky bit is they stay in the last set you equipped, but I hardly equip anything manually anymore anyway.

I feel like part of the problem with the Ivory Lagiacrus Event is the fact that many people underestimate it. This Lagiacrus hits a whole lot harder. Double the usual damage? Not sure, but it's definitely more than a normal G-ranked Ivory Lagiacrus. Some gunner died twice in the first five minutes just because he had no idea what he was getting himself into.
It was/is really great exercise though. The usual monsters, especially with multiple monster quests, just constantly stagger until they're dead. No need to remember attacking patterns or anything. Now there's finally a monster that keeps and keeps coming at you until it's finally dead. Plus it teaches you the hard way to always keep your health up before you engage again, and to really check your elemental resistance. Too little health, no proper thunder resistance, and you're getting electro-fried. Definitely one of the hardest quests available at the moment.
After getting my 5 tickets, I now feel much more comfortable evade-lancing Ivory Lagiacrus. Not sure if I'll ever put the gunlance to use. I enjoyed the quest so much though, had to get the 5 tickets right away.

Also, if the Event Alatreon is going to be anything like it was in P3rd, then it should be fine I guess.

I killed my first Savage Jho the other day, first time we started the quest as well, crazy. Hopped into a room at random and voila, there it was. That after spending almost an hour trying to fight it last month, to no avail. Didn't get the blood though, is it rare? Not that I really need it but still a shame.

Will we have another monster like that as a DLC? Eventacrus is the most fun fight I ever had in this game.

Alatreon will be a G-rank equivalent when he's released, so that's bound to lead to a lot of triple carts for groups if they don't cheese it with sleepbombing runs.

Okay, so I'm failing miserably on Mark of a Hero. 4 attempts, and I've only killed Ivory Lagiacrus twice (despite killing the village quest one easily several times). Three things hit me in the fight:

1) That goddamn sideswipe bite he does. Lagiacrus, don't you know that your sides are supposed to be a safe attack space? Ass! My first time fighting him I went with full-on attack buffs and such, and he actually 1-shot me with this. Now I eat for defense. :-P I've discovered that if you attack his chest area, this attack misses you, but are there other options? Its windup is so small that I don't feel like I can dodge it.

2) AoE body lightning. Holy crap, sometimes this gets me even when I coincidentally decide to roll away when he starts the move. Even with 7 lightning resistance, this move takes off ~80% of my health when it hits, so it's a quick KO if I've been a little lax on my healing. I really have no clue what to do about this.

3) AoE floor lightning. Sometimes he shoots that ball out, and I think "fuck, I'm dead". And I'm always right. The AoE on this is just so massive that if he jumps back and throws it out I don't always have time to get out of the area. Usually I'm in a safe place when he does it, but now and then I think I'm safe and then the AoE spreads and nicks me, and down I go!

The one time I killed Ivory Lagiacrus I thought "I can do this! Brachy and A. Los are cake!", and then I discovered that
I have to fight them both at once. :-( I was so filled with dismay that I might as well have died right there, because I knew there was no hope for me to do this with 1 life remaining on my first try.

Anyway, I'm not looking for gimmicks, just solid play advice. How do I avoid these attacks so I can be a better hunter? Especially the first two when considered together, since attacking his chest leaves me open to body lightning.

I primarily use hammers and SnS right now, because those are the best weapons I have.

Yup, Jhen Mohran is the best ElderDragon.
I hated him in MHT, but in MH3U I had to solo him and had to learn the fight in a new level, and I've come to appreciate it.

Wait, is there anything different about him in 3U? I just fought him a bunch online last night and was even nervous about timing the nator but everything seemed the same.

Nothing changed, but like I said, I had to solo him in the village quest. So it demanded more of me than "spam artillery until he dies".

Actually, one thing changed. You can actually run out of ballistas and canon balls. I was like, "whelp, guess I have to stab his arms now."

Ah, that's true. The first time that happened I just sat there and said "Wat". Do you run out in multiplayer, too, or just in the village quest?
