Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT2| "OT" means Official Thread!

I completed everything that was available, urgent or otherwise. Every tier from 1-4 has a yellow tick, with only 5 having a green one. I thought there was a 6 star tier but remembered that the last one is still probably reserved for urgent quests.

So what am I missing? I can't be done... I mean, I was expecting a cutscene or something.

Probably something related to Cha-Cha's mask or something.

Ah, yup. I *just* decided to check the weird statue and got the Ancient Mask. Now the Guild Sweetheart and Elder have got stuff to say.

Someone who wants to help me beat a Savage Jho? I already got a save where he'll appear 100%.

Tried it yesterday with a PuG, went horribly wrong.

I just logged off :(, I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I think there is a savage jho DLC coming up soon

Is the Attack on Titan gear available on NA? I haven't touched the game in a month or so.

Unfortunately it's not, but I'm pretty sure we'll get a reskinned version if anything

Holy shit, a mainstream MH game finally gets actual DLC? Is the Attack on Titan set locked on the disc? Oh my god, the possibilities if this is an actual downloaded weapon set :O

The moment I saw Zinogre, I had a new favorite monster design. Sorry Barioth.

Absolutely this. Thing was, I hunted him for the first time directly after hunting Brachydios for the first time. I was pretty drained after that fight, Zinogre's sweet theme and pretty much everything else about him lifted me right back up again.

Anyway, I actually came in here to recount the tale of me and Rathian playing wyvern fire chicken. I managed to hit her in the head with wyvern fire just as she was doing her own huge blast of flame. We traded blows, she died and I barely survived. I'm lucky that fire doesn't damage you after quest complete. The kill cam was so great, wish there was a way to see that unobscured.

Any tips on grilling the raw meat? It's always rare or bunt.
Rotate the camera so that the grill is pointed towards the bottom right, that way the text boxes don't obscure it. Stare at the bone, it goes from white to brown and is much easier to see than the color of the meat.

You can enter DLC quests you haven't even downloaded yet iirc, so I imagine everything is on the disc.

Everything is on disc, but if it works anything like the DLC quests in the PSP games, when you go to the board and sign up for a quest, your system downloads the quest information from the person who posted the quest.

There's more of a delay in signing up for a quest if that person has poor upload speeds.

I asked everyone around and they didn't mention anything.

I just feel dumb staring the quest card, seeing a check mark and scratching my head.

Thanks. I'm glad I took the 3DS to work today.

Picked up a Wii U and added my NNID. Playing online through the 3DS Packet Relay app works really nice, but I'll probably pick up the Wii U version sometimes next week.

He's the guy on the soap box right? I thought he just had village requests.
you're missing a cple of things to progress
if I recall correctly, once chacha sees the mask on the cavern in the cave behind the farm he's like EUREKA BITCHES, and you should get a request given by junior for that mask. In addition, you'll get another request to build a new base camp for your ceadeus confrontation

We tried to be subtle!! That didnt work! :D

I appreciate the help
Happy to be of assistance. We just didnt want to outright "ruin" such a "brilliant" script and "clever" series of plot advancement events.

So how the hell am I supposed am I supposed to calm down the Rathalos? He can't stay put. Keeps running and rezoning, and I can only bring so many traps. Is there a particular type of bomb he's sensitive to?

I believe monsters usually go into rage mode after they break out of traps. It sounds like you are trapping him quite a bit which is probably just making him mad.

Make sure you paintball him so you can keep track of where he fly's off to. Flash bombs if used correctly will knock him out of the sky as well.

He can be a pain, but once you start getting a stagger on him, you can usually chain stagger him pretty well and he becomes pretty soft. Just be patient. Save your traps for when he's drooling. Or don't use them at all except to trap and tranq him when he is limping away. Since he floats around so much he can be tough to lure into traps so just don't waste them.

how do you get a save where he will appear 100%?
I've beaten every monster in the game, but never encountered a savage jho...
so ofc I'd like to fight one to complete the game.

getting into HR3 missions online, i can tell my duramboros set is lacking. I like all the skills it gives me, but getting 2 shotted seems like I need an upgrade. I upgraded all pieces to just before Adv stones were required. I have them, but seems better used on newer sets.

whats good to go to next? I've been using a lot of different weapons (LS, GS, SA, HA)

Taken directly from the skills page of an armour:
Elemental
Skills that affect the strength of Elemental attacks (Fire, Water, Thunder, Ice, Dragon).
Does slime also count as an element and is affected by this?

Or is slime neither an element nor a status?

edit: boo, room full. Made another one, usual place.

It does not appear so. The skill Bombardier affects slime on your weapons, as does the Felyne Pyro kitchen skill.

edit: Beaten.

Slime is neither an element nor a status.
But then... what is it?

Dont think so, bombardier works tho (and felyne pyro).
Good!

Because said armour has -10 to Elemental. :p Thanks guys.

Thinking about trying out some ranged weapons but I have some questions:

Are ranged weapons consistently effective when soloing? I always viewed them as a viable weapon in multiplayer.

I'm specifically interested in the Bow, what determines if a certain Bow is good? I notice they have different properties.

You can't, I believe

Edit - assuming you're talking about moga woods

If guest monsters during quests counts, then just choose any unstable G quest and get felyne gamechanger
How do you free hunt G-Rank enemies?
Probably when a monster appears in a fight randomly.
Hmm... cause the guide has carve percents for them. Gonna suck if it's just random appearances.
Try for Game Changer ability when you eat, to make sure the random monster will show up. I guess if you're hunting something specific like Jho, or Rathian, etc, you could just go Peco quest and see what it ends up calling.

But it's probably not worth the slightly improved drop rate if you're farming for something.

Yeah, the woods in general is one of my many, many grievances with this game. It's such a massive waste of effort. This game just loves making people do a lot of dumb things for no reason.

"Oh you want long fragments for Artian leg armor? That's a 5% drop on a 4★ fishing trip that only pops up about 10% of the time, and takes 6 days to come back. And you need three of them."

"Oh, you want to make Pumpkin armor? Well you're gonna need bumblepumpkins for that, 20 of them. And you can only get them by trading 5-star commodities, which means you have to hope that at least a Pink Rathian shows up in the woods, spend 15 minutes killing each one for a fraction of the reward you'd get from just picking Pink Rathian quests and hope they actually drop a commodity. So including the mindless time acceleration you'll have to do to cycle through the waves of royal ludroths and great jaggi or the wasted quests where shitty monsters show up, we're looking at 8-9 hours of grinding for an armor set that really isn't that useful."

"Oh, you need parts from Jhen Mohran? Too bad there's not enough time at the end of the quest to actually finish carving him."

I could probably count the reasons on one hand why this game is a bunch of fun, and list off dozens of reasons why Capcom seems intent on making it not.

The number of carves on jhen kinda gives the speed gathering skill some purpose. Also if you don't have the skill, crouching before carving will let you carve about 10% faster per carve since it removes the standing animation + delay.

I agree moga woods and the boats weren't implemented very well though.

There's no reason to not make the wait after jhen to be 2 minutes. There's no internal logic to not being able to carve him, and there's no gameplay benefit. It's just dumb. Period. Speed gathering is not a solution, it's Stockholm Syndrome.

I'm fairly certain slime is a status. Monsters do build up resistance to slime. Edit: I was slightly wrong. It is a status in that monsters will build up resistance (to the build up and the explosions), but it isn't affected by SAU or Specialist.

Does anyone know if Elemental Atk Up is better than the individual <Element> Atk up skills? According to the Wiki Elemental Atk gives about 20% extra whereas (with at least dragon) the individual skill seems to give a static +30, but also has 2 levels. Not sure how much +2 would give, wiki doesn't seem to have anything about it.

Yeah, there are definitly aspects of the game that are like this for me. Like, some stuff I've made my peace with, like the animation stuff I found so initially frustrating. But the hitbox thing still makes me scream "bullshit!" at my 3DS

they increase exactly the same

+1 has 1.2x multiplier
+2 has 1.3x multiplier

ele atk is better because it works for all weapons

This! Yesterday I even ended up rushing the wrong way after carving his armpit... ended up at his tail :p
