Not really. He didn't care for the effects in Spider-Man, but he gave it a far more favorable review than he did for Returns. Also, he loved Spider-Man 2.
I dont get his thing against Spacey, though. Spacey wanted to be in a Superman movie. He wanted to be Lex. People say Lex is one of the really high points of the movie, but Ebert didn't think Spacey liked being Lex?
...wha?

I think Ebert is comparing his Lex, which I hear is played straight for the most part, against Hackman's Lex, which was not the most terrifying character.
We know who his father is, and Lois knows, and I guess the kid knows, although he calls Richard his daddy. But why is nothing done with this character? He sends a piano flying across a room, but otherwise he just stares with big, solemn eyes, like one of those self-sufficient little brats you can't get to talk.

Spidey 2 was good, but it did have its flaws. I can't watch either Spider-Man too much because of all the cheese (the montage in the second one was hilarious though).
When I saw Spidey 2 in theaters, this bitch was translating the whole ****ing thing into spanish for her family. Ruined the movie completely.
Batman Begins is how you do comic book superhero movies. Sin City too, if you take out the superhero part of that equation.
Even if they did, what would they say? A twenty-something white college dude with dark short hair is Spider-Man! YEAH AND I'VE GOT AN IGLOO IN TEXAS TO SELL YOU.
thing is for real, we know other stuff is for real as well.
Superman as super-stalker, Lex Luthor's inane plans to destroy the world economy and then have people max out their credit cards (yes, because credit cards will work after the economy has been destroyed) to buy property so they can live on Lexland, etc., etc.
Wow, this went from my most anticipated movie of the year to a huge ****ing turd.
All online Superman Returns reviews are suspect. At least Ebert has some integrity, as inane as his opinions may sometimes be.
You mean the ones we were told to disregard by CHUD, who said that Warner Bros. was bribing reviewers, planting reviews and threatening critics for positive impressions? Or the ones everyone claimed were fake because they were negative, but were in fact correct?

Wow, way to turn on anyone who disagrees with you. Sheathe those claws, you wildcat, you! If you had been paying attention to my other posts, you'd know that I was one of the faithful awaiting Superman Returns with great anticipation, even talking about it and hyping my co-workers for it. I disregarded a lot of the online negative rumors because:
A) I figured a lot of it was crap generated by FOX as revenge for Singer leaving X-Men 3 for Superman Returns.
B) Warner Bros. themselves went so far as to debunk them, claiming the reviews were actually taking material out of old drafts out of context.
C) Jeffrey Wells gave it a positive review, and the guy is smart (although he is a bigger douche than Willco) and has generally quality taste in film.
I didn't even mind Lois' kid
being Superman's love child, but the minute the kid busts out the piano action is the moment the movie jumps the ****ing shark and becomes completely retarded.

I busted out my claws ? :lol You can love the movie or hate it,you dont even have to look forward to the movie anymore. I could hate it too once I see it.
We have known about the
piano
for how long now? I lost that damn bet with Willco,it just seems like you took Eberts review as the one to not make you look forward to seeing it anymore.
Thats why I said what I said.
Again there are far more postive reviews on the movie and most people dont seem to be bothered by that scene.
Holy crap, CHUD completely tore apart Superman Returns in their roundtable. Every single one of 'em didn't care for it or flat out disliked it. I expected the harshest comments from Devin, but he was actually one of the nicest critics there!

I'd say reaction was mixed, and Devin was by far the biggest critic. They liked it overall, and it was mentioned several times in the roundtable as superior to Superman Returns.

I think he's generally pretty solid, especially when it comes to films from the seventies and sixties. Sometimes when he's talking about new stuff you can see from his writing that he's either pulling for it to succeed because he likes the writer or director, or that he's salivating for it to fail at the box office because he has a grudge against someone involved in the production.
The guy could barely contain his glee when King Kong didn't perform to expectations. Still, he's been pretty quiet/somewhat critical on the Superman Returns front, so I was ready to believe he was giving out his honest opinion.
But, yeah, looks like Superman Returns will suck ass.
His point is that he didn't like the movie and he stated the reasons why. Everything he said makes it sound like the movie will suck massive quantities of donkey penis.

We all know this, but why is it still at 80% on RT! Come down, damn it! Come down where you belong. I might go see The Devil Wears Prada this weekend instead. Looks cute.

Doesnt matter if I have this pic as my avatar or not *I could change it to a pic of anything else and I would have made that comment*,to say its going to end up having a score around X3 levels is wrong. It keeps going up and down, they add a couple negatives and then throw a postive back up.I know for a fact they havent added atleast 10 plus positives,I dont know wtf they take so long to add them.
Even if I end up hating it too,I still dont think it will end up with that low an average.
