"Please Jesus I dont want this movie to bomb..... but since i had to do this once already with MR. Singer to get the part......"

" The Singer version emphasizes his divinity. He is not a super man; he is a god (named Kal-El), sent by his heavenly father (Jor-El) to protect Earth. That is a mission that takes more than muscles; it requires sacrifice, perhaps of his own life. So he is no simple comic-book hunk. He is Earth's savior: Jesus Christ Superman.

Using snippets of Marlon Brando's performance as Jor-El from the 1978 Super-man movie, in which Brando passes on the wisdom "The son becomes the father, and the father becomes the son," Singer establishes his own film's central relationship. It is not romantic, between Lois and Clark. It's familial--the bond of two sets of fathers and sons: Jor-El and Superman, then Superman and Jason. Each parent tells his child that he must surpass the old man's feats, improve on Dad's legend. Poignantly, this strength, this divinity, isolates Superman from Earth's humans. He can save them but not be one of them. Lois can love him but never understand him."

Singer has made superman attractive to christians, now lets see this movie get Passion of the Christ Box Office numbers

And I don't see how anyone can argue that point. We really do need Superman most of the time.

I'm the biggest **** up in the world...DEAN CAIN SAVVVVVVVE ME!

Looks like there is a new champ as Spiderman has been superceded by Superman returns as the king of kings of superhero films.

Don't worry Willco, second place is still only the first loser.

We'll see when all the reviews are in, as well as the box office. If Superman Returns scores a higher Rotten Tomatoes rating and box office than Spider-Man 2, I will eat poutine... voluntarily.

Like Sam Raimi did with Spider-man and Christopher Nolan with Batman Begins, Bryan Singer invests his new Superman movie with emotional intensity and high passions, creating a love triangle scenario which is even more gripping than Lex Luthor's latest plot to destablise the world. Made with the intelligence and elegance that Singer brought to his X-Men films and filled with visual and thematic invention, it's a thoroughly engaging summer spectacle which should have no difficulty hitting the box office numbers that it needs to reignite the franchise.

92 percent?

Wow considering the SFX wasn't too great in Spiderman 2, it looks like Raimi spent a good portion of the budget paying off reviewers.

Can't handle the fact that Superman Returns will never be as praised or as popular or as successful as Spider-Man 2. It's okay. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

I honestly dont care if it beats Spidey,as I happen to enjoy those movies a lot too.I just want it to be as good as the Donner movies and so far all signs point to it being just as good.

I would like to see Willco have to eat that pile of turd.

Superman will break $1 BILLION.

This Summer, you will believe again that a boy can throw pianos!

It has to score 92% (8.2 avg score) FRESH rating or higher, as well.

Yea good reviews always do that to me too.

Don't hold it against Christopher Nolan and Sam Raimi that they were able to overcome the Curse of Knowles.

Harry loved Singers other movies,Super Jesus cant be stopped.

As for the whole… “kid” storyline, I love it. Love it, because the kid works. He isn’t annoying, he’s just a 5 year old kid. He’s curious, not obnoxious. The kid is a bit of a geek, aces in science, evidently pretty darn good on the piano… but physically not up to par.

WTF, so does the kid go piano warrior or not?!?!

Yeah, but Donner didn't go as far as this review suggests Singer has.

This:

He can save them but not be one of them. Lois can love him but never understand him."

That's just flat out mischaracterization. I really hope he's just overstating the issue in an attempt to say something meaningful. :/

Seriously, I do not get on why the Smallville cast still wants to do TV instead of breakng out into a movie series. Do they think the show would last longer than 7 seasons or something?

uh

a) the goal is 7 seasons

b) the cast are not the ones who are deciding to continue to do tv superman "instead of" movie series superman.

Yes. Hell yes. Hell ****ing yes. The movie is insanely good – dare I even say great. I don’t believe I am slipping into the realm of hyperbole when I say that Superman Returns is the Lord of the Rings of superhero films – in both scope and emotion of the story. Singer wasn’t simply content with making the prettiest Superman film ever made – he had to make the most tear jerking, heart-rending superhero film we’ve seen to date.

All in all, Superman Returns is easily one of the best and most satisfying films I’ve seen all year. It got me. It got me good. While I’m not quite certain where it sits yet, it is easily in the top 3 of my all time favorite superhero films. It’ll take a few more viewings to find out for sure – viewings that are just as long a wait for me as it is for you folks. Highly recommended for anyone who has so much as said the word Superman aloud before.

Taste the poutine, Willco! TASTE IT!

negative review.... :lol

http://www.newsarama.com/movies/Superman/Superman_Review.html

" Now we get down to the worst offender: Bryan Singer.

I could understand it when Richard Donner screwed up, he's not a comic guy. BUT SINGER IS A COMIC GUY! He knows better. We've all seen X-Men, where is the guy who understood the comics and presented the characters in a powerful, albeit altered, story?

Bottom line, if you love the first two Superman movies and like the idea of a tribute to those movies with new actors, go see Superman Returns, you'll love it. Otherwise, Superman fans beware - put a DVD of the animated series in and wait for the fuss to pass. "

Also mentioned how he wished Welling was Supes and Rosenbaum would have been the better choice over Spacey :l

" Nope, as long as it's a good story that's faithful to itself and presents a logical story and is somewhat faithful to the character upon which it was based, I'm happy. If all that sounds like Smallville, it should. That's a show that generally (with the exception of some occasionally crappy scripts) gets it right."
