You know what, I honestly think MS will call the lesser of the two machines "Xbox Zero".
The main one will simply be called "Xbox", like how the current trend of things is to reset the numbering system.

AMD's bridgman: "You could call it a hybrid but not in that sense... we used to talk about GCN as an ISA, but it seems that most people outside AMD think of GCN as a micro-architecture instead (ie an implementation of the ISA). RDNA is GCN ISA but not what you think of as GCN architecture."
nVidia's ISA is 4 years older than GCN.

Late to the thread, dont know if it was already discussed, but I was thinking the next Xbox proposal will be a seamless Xbox ecosystem, where it doesnt matter where you play be it a tablet, a PC or an Xbox console, youll have the same games working on any of them. Console and PC will run games natively and tablet through the cloud. (Ignore me if its a lame comment.)

When I see this on PS4, I can't even imagine what the PS5 will look like at the end of its life.
I know. The latest trailers I've seen for PS4 also got me thinking why do we even need a PS5 now when we have visuals as good as this.

I think lockhart is gonna be about 8tflops, they aren't wasting zen2, gddr6, RT, and SSD on a 4tflops machine. it will do 4k but checkerboarded for 399.
anaconda will be 599 14tflops and has more RT, more RAM, faster bigger SSD.

599 is a big no. 14 TFs is also unrealistic. For console form, with what we know of Navi, better set 13tfs as the max possible and that still might cause a lot of disappointments.

The issue is not so much the power being enough now, but the requirement of per game optimization to make it work. Since the CELL SPUs were used in many different ways (sometimes at the same time) you can't just have generic ps3 emulation like you can for Ps4 (unless you have an ultra powerful cpu to brute force it, which won't happen on a console).

We learn that NAVI don't use GCN, instead a new archi called RDNA.
First desktops Navi GPU will not have RT, unlike the custom NAVI on PS5.

PS4 BC is obviously the important one and the easiest to pull off given they basically have the same architecture.
Would have been nice for the Metal Gear Collection though and Silent Hill games.
An additional factor of full BC, that some people seem to not consider, is that developers are less inclined to do remasters of their old games.
I will always favor new IPs and new game entries over remastered games.
I do wish for some remastered games including the ones mentioned above and Demon's Souls, but I would always take a new Dark Souls game over remastered Demon's Souls.
(This does not factor in the difference in work they have to do compared remastered vs new game though)

Lol you think Sony doesn't have the talent or ppl to do tht? Don't be naive the issues had to do with the complexity of the cell with bc that is no longer the issue. Your talking about Sony that created one of the best features this generation in "SharePlay" which is feature rich. It is obviously not the same thing but Sony has some of the best talents in the industry.

I mean, it has to be Xbox Infinite or Xbox Infinity doesn't it? Xbox ∞. Whole Xbox brand is shifting to basically allow you to play from a (near) infinite number of source devices and therefore most any location. You will be able to play Xbox from your Sony Xperia Phone or your apple TV, or your PC via steam, nvidia shield, Switch whatever you have. Headed to grandma's for the weekend? She's got a potato for a PC but it won't matter, you can play Xbox there too. Also, you can buy this handy dandy console coming 2020!
