Nintendo Direct: new presentation (over) (Wii U / 3DS)

I hope for regional divergence, always makes these threads really fun (anticipating a trailer you're not currently watching etc).

Wii U UK Facebook page put this up shortly aafter their post detailing the Direct. Most likely mean nothing.

I find the inclusion of Captain Toad and NFS odd, as it just makes it look desperate (we've got to put a 2015 title and a real stretch into the list).

Edit:
Great news, nothing stops you buying the games as well. Suprisingly neither MS nor Sony stopped selling games digitally when the respective services launched. Hell, microsofts free downloads last forever last I heard regardlessof your subscription status
I thought PSN would be like "you already own this" if you had purchased games via subscription thus leaving you with no way to buy them unless you set up a different account to buy the games on (or have a different account for subscription freebies)

Why is it obvious? Why would Nintendo necessarily have to conform to the Sony/MS model? Why not boldly challenge the model by doing something different? i.e., make it a game subscription service instead of an online subscription service?

Why would companies want money? The only reason Nintendo would start such a model would be if they had that specifically in mind. PS+ really wasn't all the popular on the PS3 and I can't imagine it was the most profitable venture either. Much like DLC consumers have welcomed paying for online with open arms. To want to start paying subscriptions to a company and not expect them to put online behind it is the height of naivety. Even with Nintendo.

There's no reason for them not to do it, the console audience has already been conditioned to it. The mere fact you want to risk the same thing again is testament to that.

Toad launches in 2 regions in 2014 and the rest the first week in January. Seems fair enough to have it in the Holiday ad to me.

Band Bros P localization would be an awesome surprise. I've played quite a bit of the "Debut" demo on my Japanese 3DS and it's a lot of fun, although my lack of Japanese reading ability kinda hinders my enjoyment a little bit, in some regards. I'd be all over an English version.

The with it is the music, they would have to get a whole new soundtrack for a usa version.

Except...I'm arguing for a completely different product because it would be an attractive model that could challenge what PS+ and GWG offer. Nintendo does not necessarily have to conform to what others are doing just because that's what's worked for other companies. I'm asking, why do you think Nintendo necessarily has to follow the market trend? Why not try something new and bold?
I can? I have tried to break some of the "free" games given out on PS+ and there is no buy option available to use for me, or at least there didn't used to be one.
I meant you can choose to not subscribe and buy your games a la carte as you want. If you subscribe to PS+ and "buy" the games when they're listed as "free," yes you can't "buy" them for full-price afterwards. Because...you own them.

I expect no new game announcements beyond maybe one or two eshop games. Maybe some fleshing out of featuresets of Captain Toad, and release dates for Yoshi's Wooly World, Splatoon perhaps, etc.

The biggest thing I'd wonder is if they acknowledge the New 3DS' existence or if they'll wait until the holiday is officially over.

I'm looking forward all the new renders and official artwork they might release after the Direct :)

"Zelda U... available right now on the eShop"
*drops the mic*

Seriously though, I'm going to put my money on a March release for the New 3DS.

That's because they forgot that Captain Toad is a 2015 release in Europe.
European review codes are already out, I'm not kidding

I really hope we get to see a new trailer for Yoshi's Woolly World...As gorgeous as the game is, games in the Yoshi series post Yoshi's Island have had a terrible track record. This, combined with Kirby's Epic Yarn's snore inducing gameplay make me nervous of getting too exciting for it.

My worthless prediction:

This direct is largely to fuel holiday purchases so heavy on winter releases with some existing 2015 Wii U games hyped. Maybe a few unannounced 3DS games.

And a conspicuous lack of n3DS talk.

Not a chance but would be awesome- Zelda Wii U, New Mario (yes a new Mario)

The only version without DLC support, that exclusive is it not?

If your PS+ Subscription lapses, then you can buy then. If your PS+ subscription hasn't lapsed you still have access to them :p

Why would you need to? If you have PS+, they are free so you don't need to buy them. If you don't (or your subscription lapses), then you will be able to buy them as normal.

*I completely forgot that they will probably announce that the Mario Kart 8 DLC will be released following the presentation.

Any outlandish guesses anyone?

I will throw this out there- I am thinking another HD remake of at least 1 Gamecube game.... Maybe Sunshine or Metriod Prime.

Soraya Saga also works at Monolith Soft, doesn't she? Like she's not "just" the wife of the director.

Also interesting about the amiibo stuff being accidentally uploaded for MK8. Did it really say Fox, Captain Falcon, and co would be Mii costumes? That'd justify purchasing one for me, haha.

I hope they don't spend a lot of time on Splatoon. We got enough of it at E3 lol

Splatoon is amazing. I played it at Eurogamer. It's just plain fun and easy to pick up and play. Looks great and feels great (except for the slightly annoying motion camera controls that you can turn off). Easily the game I enjoyed most at the event. I hope we see much more!

I also had fun wiping the floor with the other team :p
