Isn't Z2E the one with NPU, guess it can't be used for FSR4. Claw 8 has good reception and I heard Intel is bringing out their big gun next year hope Intel will continue to compete in this field to push AMD.
I thought AMD cut the NPU for Z2E, but either way it's RDNA 3.5 so I doubt we will see FSR 4. Never know till it actually launches if course.

799 would be a great price for this to be honest. Cheaper than I thought.
I'll believe it when I see it.

The ROG Ally X that has a Z1 Extreme used to cost $799 but they recently raised it to $899.

The "Xbox Ally X" will have a Z2 Extreme but the thing is that this isn't new technology. You can already buy PC handhelds with the same power right now because AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 chips have been available in the market since January but these devices go for $1300-$1400 minimum at this moment.

So yeah I'll believe that $799 price when I see it but as it's stands I'm not hopeful enough or ignorant enough of this market to think such a thing will be a possibility.
I'm just too aware of this market for that to happen.

I'm expecting this thing to cost $999 or $1099.

I dont think ill bother getting one to be honest if there is new tech in the space. It would need to perform considerably better than my day one Ally.

I will be really curious about the performance.

Steam Deck has completely changed me. Now, I almost only played games available and fully playable on Steam Deck. I don't play my games from other storefronts or on PlayStation 5 anymore.

But I have a lot of games on Epic Games Store I want to play, and the Steam Deck isn't strong enough for some games (I launched Clair Obscur... and it was terrible), so if the ROG Ally X fully support every third party store and can play every game, I will buy it without any doubt.

The Z2 Extreme is looking at a 15%-20%~ performance uplift against a Z1 Extreme

I will be really curious about the performance.
At 720p the Z2 Extreme is looking to gain 30%-50%~ performance gain against the Steam Deck

I just saw the leaked price for the ROG Xbox Ally X and I was right it's going on sale at $1050 USD~

This leaker didn't know what they were talking about this is a known and quantified market already so there's very little room for guessing prices here.

Yeah this thing is going to be very niche/dead in a lot of places because your going to have a hard time convincing people to buy a 900 EUR/ 1500 CAD / 1598 AUD / $1050 USD system.

Yep, the price makes sense but also makes the market for the device almost non-existent. Anyone who really wants these devices probably already has another handheld, whether Deck, Ally or Lenovo.

$1000+ for a somewhat small upgrade is a big ask. And for new users, for $500 you can get a Deck, OG ROG Ally or that new Lenovo Topher Topher got.

Someone apparantly caught a glimpse of a google price on the Asus store. extas1s might actually have been right.

"As you can see, the cheapest version (ROG Xbox Ally) will be worth 599 euros, while ROG Xbox Ally X will go on sale for 899 euros. We have to wait for an official confirmation, but everything points to these being the prices, leaked by mistake by ASUS."

So Microsoft expects people to pay $700 and $1,000 US dollars for this device?! WTF!

It was already a DOA and even more so with a higher then expected price tag then what the shills were spreading.

And this is nowhere near comparable to the high end laptop market. That's a much bigger market with enterprise customer.

As an aside to the price here, the power coming with new soc's is very exciting for the future of handhelds.

Full PS4 emulation alongside Switch 2 emulation added to Steam and GP.

Give it a year or 2 and we will be there

Not much you can do when that's how much these handhelds cost, more tariffs are about to land, and Asus has to make a profit. Note that EU price seems to be €900 after VAT.

This is going to be very niche device.

Why would anybody be excited for this? Not only is it not exclusively made by MS themselves, but they don't even have any quality games to launch it with, and showcase its capabilities. This is gonna flop so hard nobody will remember it was released within a month after launch.

It's not a closed ecosystem, so it can't sell at a loss and make up the difference from the digital store. They have to sell the devices itself at a profit . . for Asus.

Yep, exactly! Which makes me even more confused why many Xbox Youtubers and Podcasters were talking up this Xbox PC handheld device so much over the last month or so. How many of their viewers and listeners can even afford this?

It doesn't matter, it's a niche new product with new technology in that will play games better than the previous handhelds.

Youtubers get excited about $1000 Chinese branded handhelds if the tech is new why not?
This one is £1300 in the UK for example

Isn't the whole point to play games better than you could before?

If MS are licensing out an upcoming gaming focused Windows version with Xbox branded 3rd party HW, the market will be flooded with all sorts of "Xbox's", some expensive and some cheap. All sold for profit and niche.

I think it'll sell less than the Steam Deck which is around 3 million I believe. Xbox is out. People need to get it through their heads. ha!
I don't even think they'll support Xbox coded games after the Series consoles, even though it sounds like they're doing 1 more console that will.

Yeah, I understand why PC enthusiast get excited for this stuff. But I'm not sure why the Xbox specfic Youtubers and podcasters did. I'm only talking about the Xbox only crowd, not the PC crowd. In the console gaming world, there isn't a chance in hell we'd be excited for a $1,000 product. Especially considering it won't play Xbox native games.

I get your point, I guess they are all on hopium that it will play Xbox BC natively or something.

My view on that is it may play 360 natively via emu, anything later will be cloud BC via a new app built into windows (Tales from my ass)
MS could suprise us with a compatibility layer though, and that would be game changing as GTA6 would be playable on all these non Xboxes

If the bolded were true.....you'd think MS would be telling us that now. That way, they could get the hype up 1000%.

Any port in the storm. They have to find something to be hopeful and positive about. They're sure as hell not getting it from Xbox hardware sales, software sales, upcoming exclusive games, or Game Pass subscriber numbers.

Bro it's £1000, better off buying a ps5 and a ps portal and it would still be cheaper.

It's £599 or £899 depending on the model. And who cares how much a PS5 is if you want to play PC games? PS5 ain't a magic bullet solution my man. PS portal sure as hell ain't.

MS have put up several job postings for engineers to work on this compatibility layer.

Our technology solutions are a critical part of enabling the Xbox goal of allowing players to continue to enjoy their games across devices
As a Principal Software Engineer on our team, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of game preservation. You will own a graphics shader compatibility pipeline to ensure shaders from previous generations of games run correctly and efficiently on modern Xbox hardware. You will work with DirectX APIs, graphics hardware, and game code to design and optimize a cutting-edge shader translation system for modern GPUs. Often, this will require working with limited access to debugging symbols and source code. You'll work closely with graphics architects and driver teams to implement high-performance code generation, optimize shader pipelines, and push the boundaries of real-time rendering.

The z2 extreme handhelds will be expensive as fuck. I have to think if this is under 1k it will be the cheapest one. That Lenovo one with the giant OLED is gonna be crazy expensive.

You guys are looking at this through the lens of console wars autism because of the meaningless Xbox sticker. It's more like the high end laptop market. Do those sell millions? Don't know and don't care. But they must make money because they keep making them.

I think Microsoft cares and wants it to sell millions though. It's clear their goal is to have this device and others to sell millions of units.

MS have put up several job postings for engineers to work on this compatibility layer.

But are we sure it's for this device? I'm sure at some point, MS will have some games that work with this compatibility layer and some Xbox One and Series games will work on PCs natively. But what we also don't know is if they will run into licensing issues next.

This is $300 less than I imagined.

Be careful. The OP's information may be incorrect, based on information posted later in this thread.
