Noted leaker claims to know the Xbox Ally Release date and price (Ally: $499. Ally X: $799. Preorder in August, release in October)

Why would you even want that since these handhelds don't have the power to play good looking games from the past decade at native 1080p/60 with good settings, needless to say 120hz -- which is a pointless refresh rate for any of these devices, since on the 90hz OLED Steam Deck you can already lock your framerate to 40, 45, etc.

That's actually another benefit of this compared to the Steam Deck: VRR. You don't have to worry about locking your games to an arbitrary framerate. Your FPS can float between 35-50 or 45-60 or 70-100 or whatever, which is vital on a handheld IMO.

That and playing many 2D games like, say Hollow Knight or Cuphead or Ori at 1080p/120fps is a joy on these handhelds. Not to mention older games, less demanding games, emulated games, if you use GFN or Moonlight to stream your games, etc.. etc..

PLENTY of valid usecases for 1080p/120/VRR on these handhelds.

A PC can play PlayStation games. I guess we can call PCs "PlayStation" as well. Believe what you want, but if Jez Corden gets it then anyone should be able to.

"Yes, Microsoft's Xbox team is leading development on the software experience, but that's where the "Xbox" ends here."

Ah yes, Sony's Windows OS. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

But seriously the Xbox system will be open platform. That apparently breaks too many individual brains. So Xbox while the closed platform may be over, sounds like Xbox/MS gaming isn't going anywhere it seems.

Yes, calling shit something it isn't is indeed funny. We don't know what the next Xbox system will be. Lots of theories, but that's all. I imagine they could call a toaster an Xbox and some broken brains would nod furiously.

Considering that Microsoft cancelled its own handheld, I can't blame them, it's basically the best they'll get now.

You don't know what it will be? Check the first post of this thread. As I said broken brains can't handle it.

Xbox and their fanboys are a lost cause if you keep having to explain the simplest things to them.

Why would the US pricing be $499 if the Europe pricing is 599 euros? XSX is 599 euros and $599. Seems like the pricing would be consistent. If so then the Rog Ally X will be $899 rather than $799. This makes a lot more sense to me.
The 499 could be a good gamepass machine for casual fun gaming, just dont know what kind of perfomance to expect.. Ill play third party on my pro .. so its more for smaller games, indies , platforms, that kind of stuff

Sure, but I'm just wondering about the pricing conversion between euros and dollars. Why the 100 difference for this when XSX is the same 599 in both euros and dollars.

Wait, I'm an Xbox fanboy? I don't even know if I've turned my Series X on this year my guy. Been playing mostly PC and PS5 pro this year so far. All things being equal I don't have necessarily have any allegiance to any one platform. Steam, Nintendo, PlayStation,Xbox, and etc. all have their positives and negatives. I don't have a problem being critical about any of them.

So getting your first assumption out of the way. Maybe the diehards pro to a singular platform or platforms should open their eyes and stop with stupid console warriors BS. Just because Xbox is changing direction which is necessary. Doesn't mean Xbox or MS is over etc. If anything as a consumer (which you are) you probably want more competition not cheering on the loss of a competitor. That's fucking retarded, no one in the gaming hobby wins when that occurs.

It's always the same with you fools. Oh noes we going to lose competition so sony will jack up their console prices to $599 and games to $80. Oh wait, it's the loser that's jacking up their prices.

Someone apparantly caught a glimpse of a google price on the Asus store. extas1s might actually have been right.

"As you can see, the cheapest version (ROG Xbox Ally) will be worth 599 euros, while ROG Xbox Ally X will go on sale for 899 euros. We have to wait for an official confirmation, but everything points to these being the prices, leaked by mistake by ASUS."

If you go to this site, which is an official Asus partner and type in Xbox Ally in the search bar, you will see the prices pop up briefly.

Absolute insanity.

Switch 2 with Mario Kart is £429. Deck Oled £479.

There's no market for this product.

I wonder how those managers convince themselves that their project is going to be successful alongside the Steam Deck and the Juggernaut Switch 2.

He said successful, selling 1 and making 10$ of profit isn't that I believe
It won't sell one. Likely several hundred thousand at minimum. Hardware profit is likely over a hundred dollars per unit as well, especially in Europe. Does anybody question ASUS when they release a new laptop model? Same thing.

The z2 extreme handhelds will be expensive as fuck. I have to think if this is under 1k it will be the cheapest one. That Lenovo one with the giant OLED is gonna be crazy expensive.

You guys are looking at this through the lens of console wars autism because of the meaningless Xbox sticker. It's more like the high end laptop market. Do those sell millions? Don't know and don't care. But they must make money because they keep making them.

Don't you guys me, I'm just saying he couldn't say « hardware is sold at a profit » to « do they really believe it will be sucessful », cause the two aren't related.

thats really an ugly design.

And too expensive, if I'm going to spent all that money I prefer to have something that is not Windows 11… I mean Xbox on trying to sell things from the home page.

These PC handhelds have to be profitable because there's 6-8 new ones hitting the market every year, not including the high end mobile retro consoles like Retroid Pocket 6 and others.

Who would have thought that handhelds would be the future? I can only guess that as SoC efficiency gains increase, these things will become more and more popular.

If this can play every single game I own on my Series X from back to the OG Xbox right up to every game released on Series X, I will buy one. If not, Microsoft can get fcuked as this is basically just an ROG Ally with Xbox branding.

It's got Phil's shitty brand on it a DOA product with the brand again can't be looked upon well for a company allegedly in business to make $
Initial licensing and further royalty fees just means more money for Microsoft. Sure, it will probably hurt the Xbox brand, but when Microsoft doesn't care about it, neither should you.

DOA if it's 800 USD, these handheld PC were super exciting but price has reached the point where they are no longer a mainstream device 😕

isnt Rog Ally X 800 USD ?

There is no way in hell its going to be cheaper than 800 for the Z2E extreme. 1 year since Rog ally X. 99% sure its 800$ or even more

The PC handhelds PWN

I will wait for Steam Deck 2 however.

Will this thing have the exact same analog sticks as Series? Because that's one big advantage of this thing if so. Too bad the D pad sucks balls on the Ally though

Oh, I thought it was 700, I guess rog ally was indeed priced too low at launch. Ally x is like a reset.

I picked up a refurbed PS Portal during Prime Day and I'm really happy with the 1/2 controllers with the screen in the middle feel.

I'm really curious if this will have a similar feel as people of mentioned the feel being like 1/2 Xbox controllers. Losing the touch pads of the Deck always stinks. Improved ergonomics is always appreciated.

The Z2E model is going to be minimum $900 in US, maybe more, due to the high cost of Z2E chip and tariffs.

Ally X is currently $899, so is the new Z1E Lenovo, and MSI Claw.

I hope the performance uplift is huge. It doesn't even look RDNA3.5 support FSR4
Reportedly 10-15% over Z1E on average. I think we will need to see what happens with final drivers but don't expect miracles.

And nope, no FSR 4 till UDNA hits which is probably 2027 for handhelds.

Isn't Z2E the one with NPU, guess it can't be used for FSR4. Claw 8 has good reception and I heard Intel is bringing out their big gun next year hope Intel will continue to compete in this field to push AMD.
