full press release:

DOCTOR WHO TO FILM IN THE U.S. FOR THE FIRST TIME
Upcoming season’s first two episodes to be set in the U.S.

The BBC announced today that season six of Doctor Who, which delivered record ratings for BBC AMERICA earlier this year, will open with a spectacular two-parter set in the U.S. and penned by ‘Who supremo’ Steven Moffat.

In the special two-parter co-produced with BBC AMERICA, key scenes will be filmed in Utah for a story set in the late ‘60s in which the Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah - right to the Oval Office itself.

Production on episodes one and two of the new season starts in Cardiff this month and Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will then travel to America in mid November to shoot pivotal scenes. They will also be joined by Alex Kingston who reprises her role as River Song.

Showrunner and lead writer, Steven Moffat, said: “The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound get round to America eventually! And of course every Doctor Who fan will be jumping up and down and saying he’s been in America before. But not for real, not on location - and not with a story like this one! Oh, you wait!”

Piers Wenger, Head of Drama BBC Wales and Executive Producer, added: "Steven's scripts generally inspire us to go that extra mile - this time we're going that extra four thousand. Thanks to our friends at BBC AMERICA and to the continuing ambition of our lead writer and production team, the first two episodes of Matt Smith's second season as the Doctor are going global and look set to become Doctor Who's most action-packed and ambitious season opener yet".

The new season follows on from the Doctor Who Christmas special guest starring Katherine Jenkins and Michael Gambon which is due to premiere during the holiday season. Season six will start airing on BBC AMERICA in spring 2011 and has been split into two blocks, with the second block airing in autumn 2011. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens.

2010 has been a breakthrough year for the Doctor Who franchise across all platforms since BBC AMERICA became the official home of the series. The series reached the number one spot on the “Top TV Seasons” chart on iTunes and now Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Season hits stores on Blu-ray and DVD on November 9.

Doctor Who was co-commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning for BBC One and Jay Hunt, Controller of BBC One and will be produced by Marcus Wilson (Life on Mars) and Sanne Wohlenberg (Margaret). Steven Moffat is Lead Writer and Executive Producer (Sherlock Holmes) with Piers Wenger, Head of Drama, BBC Wales and Beth Willis (Ashes to Ashes), also Executive Producing.

Filming is taking place in Cardiff until March 2011.

Interesting that the first two episodes are a 2-parter.

Doctor Who to film in the U.S. for the first time. First 2 episodes to be set in the U.S. next season. #DoctorWho #DWUS"

How the hell are they affording this? Possibly a BBC Worldwide coproduction?

When they say "next season" do they mean Season 7? Season 6 has already started shooting as far as I know.

EDIT: Suddenly, a press release from above.

I'm sure there are enough nice people from UK Gaf that would help people import the Wiimote, DS Game, and Stylus packs. If not, ebay is always an option. (albeit an expensive one)

"That is a chair with a panda on it- sheer poetry, dear boy!"

Finished The Time Meddler last night, and with that the second series of the original run. The first historical with an alien plot (thank goodness for that) and the first story without any companions from the first episode. Vicki and Steven are worthy companions, (though no one can replace Ian) and Hartnell is on fine form. One of the few re-watchable Hartnells.

List time!

Planet of Giants - 6
Dalek invasion of Earth - 9
The Rescue - 6
The Romans - 4
The Web Planet - 1
The Crusade - 5
Space Museum - 6
The Chase - 4
Time Meddler - 8

Which gives it an average of 5.44, which slots it in here:

Average
Series 5 (2010) 7.2
Series 1 (2005) 6.3
Series 4 (2008) 5.82
Series 3 (2007) 5.55
Series 1 (1963) 5.5
Series 2 (2006) 5.46
Series 2 (1964) 5.44
Specials (2009) 5.25

I went to see Doctor Who Live last night, great stuff - like panto with Daleks. :lol
Actually, the two biggest cheers of the evening were for the Daleks & David Tennant.

'Tardis' to tackle anti-social behaviour in Brighton

A car park kiosk in Brighton is being turned into a Tardis-style police box to tackle anti-social behaviour such as drug taking and theft from cars.

Community police officers will use the converted kiosk in the underground car park near St James's Street as a base to give a high profile presence.

The kiosk will also be used by officers for neighbourhood surgeries.

It follows complaints from residents about anti-social behaviour at the car park, owned by the city council.

Brighton and Hove City Council staff came up with the idea of turning the former attendants' kiosk into the Dr Who-style police box.

They are co-ordinating the project, which will use poster panels to give the kiosk its new look.

Insp David Derrick said: "This initiative is a great example of the local neighbourhood policing team and council working together, reacting to community needs.

"We will be based right within the community, making the team even more accessible.

"This is not a police station, but local residents are welcome to pop by and get crime prevention advice and make appointments to see officers."

So hey, I just started watching Doctor Who (Matt Smith one) and I'm really enjoying it. I've seen a couple of episodes with Eccleston and Tenant and I was wondering, should I go back and watch their series too?

Wish I had jumped onto the bandwagon sooner. Managed to get my little brother to watch it as well. He's scared shitless of the angels. :lol

YES YES YES YES YES

The only things wrong with the older seasons, is there is a higher ratio of bad episodes to go episodes, but the good episodes are still great.

The good thing about Doctor Who, is the that even if one chubby talentless hack is in charge of the main arc, there is still loads of guest writers than can come in and make great one-off episode.

Ah, it'll be like WanderingWind all over again.

Aww.

My trip to England is set for Christmas, 2011. I'm going to spend Christmas in London. It's going to be fuckawesome and I'm probably going to defect. The UK is a non-extradition set of countries, right?

Maybe I will. I went back in the previous pages and read WanderingWind's commentary. Echoes a lot of my thoughts on the show.

He told me that he never wanted to watch this show past 8.

Anyway, I watched the rest of episodes for the season/series. The last two episodes were especially mindbending...but made complete sense. Which was so weird! I loved the last 10 or so minutes. It just came together so well.

Also, Karen Gillian is so freaking hot, damn.

For the first time the ABC will fast-track the annual Doctor Who Christmas Special.

It will air on Boxing Day in Australia, just hours after it screens in the UK.

So I just started watching this show, knocked out season/series 1 however you classify it, of the last decade reboot. And I have a question not sure if it requires spoilers but just in case.
Heard people talk about the Torchwood show and after watched the 2nd series opener realized it's a spin off. Does Torchwood happen to talk about what happens to Capt. Jack directly after the finale, or does it just jump in time :)lol ).

You will get a Jack back story episode.

So as per suggestion, I started watching the Eccleston series and I suppose I'll comment on whatever episodes I see.

So the first episode was kind of...average. But maybe that's just me coming from series 5 finale high. Eccleston doesn't seem to be as energetic or a spaz like Smith. Seems more calm and subdued. Nice leatherjacket,
bowtie still cooler though
. Rose is alright I guess. They don't give you much on her apart from her being in a dead end job. I need to see more of her. Also, her boyfriend is annoying and I'm glad he's not invited. Anyone else find the end of the episode dragged out? It took way too long for Rose to decide "Oh hey, maybe I should help out the Doctor".

Oh oh, I forgot about those plastic aliens. I was kind of surprised they were the first aliens shown and it's nice to see what they actually were. That's what centurionRory was supposed to be, right?

If you have any human decency, you will quickly grow to hate her.

So I was watching the 9 to 10 regeneration scene again and noticed something. When 9 starts regenerating and throws his head back, he's already Tennant. You can clearly see Tennant's long hair. Then it goes to Rose, then back to The Doctor, and he's the kinda hybrid 9/10 with Tennant's face but Eccleston's short hair. Then the long hair grows in, despite it already having been there in the previous scene.

Oh editing. :lol

I have a couple more questions. I see 3 stand alone episodes on Netflix and was wondering if there are specific points at which to watch them or if they're just stand alone episodes: The Next Doctor, Planet of the Dead, and The Waters of Mars. And also should I be watching Torchwood alongside Season 2? Don't want to miss out on anything. Enjoying the show, but miss Eccleston :(.

Rose (the episode) is complete rubbish. I think it was said that it was done on a tight budget to convince the BBC a series could be viable... which is weird, as the next episode was supposed to be one of the biggest budget episodes of that season - far too much CGI and not enough money to do it

I don't think any full season you're about to watch will impress you hugely, as Season 1, 5, 31, or Fnarg is the high point, and you've already watch that. You will however have loads of great standalone episodes if you keep on going - "Dalek," "The Empty Child,"
and"The Doctor Dances" for example.
