This Primeval show is on Netflix. What's it about and why should I check it out?

Edit: Also, do we know when the Sarah Jane Doctor Who ep. will air?

Thing is, Top Gear is like that - it's HUGE in the US - in fact, it's the biggest motoring show...

It's spawned an Australian and a US version that are properly 'localized' for those territories, a live stage show that's toured across the world, a ton of DVDs and merch and is even now appearing in a form in Gran Turismo 5 and Forza 3/4 - but the show's budget stays the same. The way the BBC works, that money goes back into the 'pot' and is distributed evenly amongst all shows.

... in the world.

Fixed.

And "Estimates" (really no way to properly gauge it) of just how much Top Gear is pirated put it at the #1 show in the world, not just motoring.

Basically there are these rifts in time that open called "anomalies" and a team is formed to investigate and capture the creatures that come through. The team is made of of a paleontologist, his bad ass assistant, a biology student and a hot zoologist. It's pretty basic in the first series and get's really good in series 2 and 3 when they start going through anomalies themselves.

I'm terrible at breaking things down but just watch the first episode and if it doesn't grab you, the rest probably won't either.

Dear British Who Gaf,

I'm thinking of going to England for a vacation. Besides London, where should I look? I don't care as much for night life as I do for awesome scenery, great people and beer. Thanks!

Go to St. Ives its lovely!!! Went there on holiday this year & I live here, lovely part of the UK. Might as well pop to Cardiff as well.

All lovely. Cardiff has the Bay (pretty views, Torchwood/Who location, ridiculously expensive restaurants) and some decent shopping centers. That said, I think you can probably see everything Cardiff really has to offer in a day (or two.) Bath likewise. Don't know anything about St Ives, but it looks to me like a pretty standard British seaside kind of place. Very pretty, very scenic.

Your best bet would be to try to trek around a bit in my opinion. The UK is small - you can get from the Midlands to London in 2 hours or so by train - and the train links are strong. You could easily trip around to a few different cities a day or two at a time relatively cheaply.

In terms of other stuff, I mean, London is a must for obvious reasons, it's the center of the UK in every sense.

Birmingham and the surrounding area worth a look - Birmingham has some great shopping destinations, more miles of canals than Venice and so on. Birmingham's the second city, and even though I have a personal affinity for the place (being originally from there) I'd say it's an interesting slice of British life for an outsider, very different to London (or Cardiff).

But, the real reason for going up to that area is that it's very close to Stratford Upon Avon, which has lots of attractions and is a major tourist destination - Shakespeare's birthplace, his house, lots of victorian-era housing and architecture etc. What's quite cool about that stuff is it's not just "look at the house where Shakespeare lived from the outside!!" - you can go in on a tour, see all the rooms, preserved or recreated as they were in his day. Stratford is always, always, always full of Americans and Japanese tourists. Again, you could probably see all you need to what of those place in a day, mind.

Awesome advice! I sort of pulled an American move and forgot that England is much smaller than the US, and that it has an operable rail system.

There is a Christmas Special Trailer in the Link.

Information might be considered a bit spoilery below:

The Doctor Gets More Lives, And They Don't Necessarily Have To Be White!!

Merrick here...

An interesting little newslet has appears on DigitalSpy.

For those who do not know (or don't recall), "The Doctor" character in DOCTOR WHO "regenerates" every once in a while - he literally, physically and psychologically, regenerates. Bringing about a different physical embodiment, with different personality traits, while more or less retaining memories and core essence of his previous versions. It's a brilliant way to keep the show fresh, an interesting path towards keeping the character dynamic, and a nice way to let lead actors out of the show in both a natural and progressive fashion. A brilliant conceit all the way around.

However, somewhere along the way, WHO writers came perilously close to backing themselves into a corner with this gag - establishing that "The Doctor" can only regenerate 12 times, posing certain constraints and obstacles given that he's currently on his 11th incarnation. For example, there are nagging rumors that current Doctor Matt Smith may wish to depart the current show sooner than later - which would necessitate another "regeneration" (recasting) if the title is to continue, and immediately bringing us to a twelfth and (supposedly) final Doctor. Or would there be one more life after that if you count...ack!? I'm already lost here. My point is: this is a significant issue, important consideration, and something of a wall no matter how you look at it. What to do?

Not surprisingly, The Powers That Be will soon be addressing this consideration in an episode of the DOCTOR WHO spin-off series THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES. The episode will be called "Death of the Doctor" and will guest star current "Doctor" Matt Smith. We've known that much since this Summer, but have only recently learned details about what awaits us in this compellingly titled episode.

DigitalSpy got a preview of the two part, Russell T Davies-written installment says "Doctors 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 and 11" make an appearance (William Hartnell Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, David Tennant, and Smith respectively), and that "The Doctor doesn't have to be white. And he can regenerate more than 12 times - a lot more!"

As for how he's able to regenerate beyond the magic number 12? Guess we'll have to wait and see. I love that he can be a different color (and, by extrapolation, an entirely different ethnicity?) It would be fascinating to see the series someday take such steps - although I understand why doing so could be perceived as risky given the many decades of established convention on which the DW mythos rests.

The next thought that springs to mind: within the mechanics of the regeneration conceit, are there any rules from prohibiting The Doctor from being a woman? Previous WHO showrunner Russell T Davies (scripter of the SARAH JANE ADVENTURES two-parter we're talking about and creator of SJA) has, in the past, expressed his belief that Catherine Zeta Jones or Lesley Sharp would make a great Doctor - suggesting the notion is doable (excuse the double entendre). I'd like to see that happen - such sweeping changes could open up so many more directions that the show could explore.

And, to be absolutely clear, I'm not suggesting that the next/"new" Doctor is being permanently revealed on the upcoming SARAH JANE ADVENTURES - this kind of stuff gets confusing. This is a guest shot for Smith, who still has a whole "series"/season (or two - depending on how you count 'em) of his own show ahead of him...at the very least. So they're not ready to permanently change his character again. Yet.

THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES' "Death of the Doctor" should air in a few weeks on BBC. The next formal DOCTOR WHO episode will broadcast on Christmas Day, guest starring Michael Gambon (Dumbledore in the HARRY POTTER movies).

I didn't post it as I felt people wouldn't want to be spoilt before they see the episode. The trailer was posted further up the page.

This was a full preview of the Christmas special. With talking and everything. Not just a preview of BBC's holiday lineup. It's gone from the page now though. I swear, I'm not going mad!

Edit: Ah. Trailer was fan made. :( Looked so real.

Still can not find a place to order the damned DS stylus pack or the Wii mote.
I really hope Matt Smith is not in THAT much of a hurry to bail out.
Looking forward to grabbing S5 on Blu to rev up for the Holiday Special.

Matt Smith leaving already?

Why don't they lock all these actors in for at least a few years?

Well with Eccleston I imagine it was because they didn't know how successful the show would be. And I don't know if Tennant just chose to stay or was contracted to stay.

Wtf, since when is Smith leaving?
He is not, as of yet.
Just a statement that seems to have taken a life of his own.
There is a rumor that got out that he wants to try and build work in Hollywood, but nobody really can find direct backing for it.

Well in case the rumor is true, I hope no one offers him anything so he has to stay.

:D

I hope that Smith stays on for a third series, at least so that he was on for as much time as Tennant. I'd like to see an actor stay on as the doctor for like 4-5 years though.

I thought I read somewhere that Smith was signed up for a minimum of three series. Perhaps this "two series in one" business is a way for him to swiftly bail out? Tin foil hats, people.

In other news, the new thread is due on November 8th. All the information, structure etc. is down but I've suddenly had a crisis with the design. Which do you guys prefer (neither are finished designs, as you might well guess):

Number one, a play on the TARDIS' police box sign:

I like both of them tbh. If the first one had a bit more going for it, I would probably go with that one.

The first one I just threw together in PS in a coupla minutes when I had a brainwave. The finished product would indeed have more going on with it - although I'm trying to figure out just how to do that without betraying the concept.

I like the first one. The second definitely seems like it was more work, and is more impresive graphically, but I like the simplicity of the first.

More details of US Filming October 10th, 2010
More details have emerged of the American location filming. According to an article in In2Town Lifestyle Magazine the American location filming will be part of a two-part story set in the 1960′s.

The article reveals a few details of the plot…

Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the
desert in Utah – right to the Oval Office itself.

The US filming will take place in
Utah
in mid-November and the article seems to suggest that the story will feature River Song.

Tha article quotes Steven Moffat as saying…

“The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound get round to America eventually!  And of course every Doctor Who fan will be jumping up and down and saying he’s been in America before.  But not for real, not on location – and not with a story like this one!  Oh, you wait!”

It's confirmed. "@bbcamerica
Doctor Who to film in the U.S. for the first time. First 2 episodes to be set in the U.S. next season. #DoctorWho #DWUS"

How the hell are they affording this? Possibly a BBC Worldwide coproduction?
