I have a couple more questions. I see 3 stand alone episodes on Netflix and was wondering if there are specific points at which to watch them or if they're just stand alone episodes: The Next Doctor, Planet of the Dead, and The Waters of Mars. And also should I be watching Torchwood alongside Season 2? Don't want to miss out on anything. Enjoying the show, but miss Eccleston :(.

Do not watch Torchwood side by side, you will confuse yourself. It can be watched separate, as most mentions of Who are just nods and winks instead of excact stoyline stuff.

The episodes you listed are the 2009 Hour-long Specials - although one aired Xmas 2008 and one aired New Years day 2009.. confusing! They were what was done for 2009 as it was decided not to film a full season of 13 as Russel T Davis (main show runner for the first 4 seasons) said he wanted to keep the show going as long as possible, and having a full season each year would be bad for longevity.

You are a bit away yet from watching them though. You start watching them after the "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End" Season 4 2-part finale. You watch in this order

"The Next Doctor"
"Planet of the Dead"
"The Waters of Mars"
"The End of Time"

I know you have no listed "The End of Time" in your post, but it is part of the 2009 Specials, and should be watched too. Then you go on to Season 5.

Just watch Doctor Who and forget about Torchwood. Trust me, it's head, shoulders and torso above in terms of quality and entertainment. You've got several amazing episodes coming up if you just keep going season to season.

Keep us informed!

Does anyone else think that Amy Pond and River Song might be the same person? Would be an amazing twist to the next series, and typical of Moffat's talent for planning ahead.

They share similar names, the same eye colour, similar looks and mannerisms. With the exception of hair and accent, there's not much difference – and both of those can be changed / altered easily with time.

That would suck!
I like the fact that Rory won, the poor bastard.

Wait...we ought to start spoiler texted stuff, yeah?

Your avatar was a really fun scene to put together. We used a program called Massive, first developed for the army scenes from LotR.

It's a buggy mess that will crash constantly, lose saves and lacks any kind of 'undo' function, but I always love the payoff.

Just started in on series 4, and can say without a doubt I hate Martha and glad she's not around. Don't think I've laughed so hard during The Poison Sky when The Doctor says "Are you my mommy?" :lol. Love this show!

Edit: Man these episodes that have horror-esque qualities are fanfuckingtastic. The Empty Child & Midnight specifically.

Glad you're enjoying it. I love the episodes with a dash of horror.

I had no idea Waters of Mars had gone up on Netflix. (I knew End of Time had, because randomly added itself to my instant watch queue.) Thanks, GAF!

I cannot set CBBC to record on Sky+ in Ireland... noooo :/

How in the hell am I supposed to remember to tune in all by myself. This is like the 90s again when I used to always miss Gladiators and YouBet!!!

Alrighty finished up Series 4 and all the specials. Man the ending of Waters of Mars was just, wow. Really enjoyed Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor, still a bigger fan of Eccleston. Now just waiting on the Series 5 dvds via netflix! Thanks all for turning me on to this!

Holy hell. Never watched Doctor Who in my life; had always heard it was a kid-friendly, camp for camp's sake series. Just found a season 5 (new series) DVD for cheap, and thought, let's see what's all the fuss is about.

I'm blown away. Are all the modern (and past, fo that matter) seasons that good? I'm not asking for a "S5>S2&3&4>S1" kind of thing, since I'll buy the others anyway, but... Color me impressed!

Series 5 is a high point, Moffats got that shit on a lock.

But yeah I think the past seasons aint bad either. They have their good and bad moments.

I meant season 4. Though I freely admit I'll probably watch the fifth on the interwebz if it's not out by the time I've finished watching the other ones. And buy it once it's released. :)

Living in France sucks!

Really? Well, that's pretty amazing. I guess my initial reaction was due to really, really low expectations :lol . Plus, Tennant is a great actor.

Can't wait!

Don't forget, Death of the Doctor Pt 1 is on today.

Mon 25 & Tues 26 Oct on CBBC @ 5.15pm
Wed 27 & Thurs 28 Oct on BBC One @ 4.30pm

But yeah, are we so lucky we get to see Eleven written by RTD?

Not particularly, no. And I'm not expecting much, especially from the ending.

Would nice to be pleasantly surprised, but I doubt it will happen.

I've been going through the new series the last couple of weeks, and I just finished the last episode, and I still want more. MORE. Goddamn

I have to say that while I really, really liked Tennant in the role, I wish Eccleston had gotten another season. Smith's version is interesting, but it took until the Lodger for me to really start liking him. Those last few episodes were incredible.

Well you could watch the Sarah Jane advenutre two-parter.

The first episode aired yesterday and the second aired today. It features the 11th Doctor. Well, the first part barely has him.

Then you have the Christmas special that is only a few weeks away!

I don't know if I can bring myself to watch something that's lit like, well, pre-Series 5 Doctor Who.

Edit: And written like, well, pre-Series 5 Doctor Who.

Unfortunately I have no way of watching them right now, since I don't get BBC. I'll probably just have to wait until someone puts up a torrent with it.

That Sarah Jane pissed me off,
Ian and Barbara, married? not aging? They'll never bring Ian back now

Sarah Jane does say that the info comes from Google, so it's not as if it is written in stone. And they could simply re-cast the roles if they want young versions. I can't see the Moff doing anymore fanwanky returning companions stuff, though.

When's the new thread coming up?

The Eighth Doctor is BACK?!

I had a blurb from another website but lost it. I've heard rumors this has something to do with Big Finish productiosn. To be honest, I'm not too sure why they would need to do a costume change.

This seems strange. Unless he is launching his own campaign for a Time Lord mini or he's returning to the new series somehow.

Either way, I don't like the new threads too much but I'm glad to see McGann back in action, somewhat.

Edit: Not too sure where this blurb comes from. Got it off Gallifrey Base.

Paul McGann is currently in New Zealand, a guest at the Armageddon Pop Culture Expo (Auckland, New Zealand) this weekend. On Saturday he appeared on a panel and revealed what is to be the 'new' costume for the Eighth Doctor.

The costume consists of a double-breasted black Naval jacket, with gold buttons. Part of of the ensemble is a courier pouch bag. However, the shirt and trousers were actually McGann's own and not part of the costume.

Also revealed is a new sonic screwdriver, courtesy of Weta Workshop, the wizards behind the effects on The Lord of the Rings. The screwdriver is similar to the one used by the current Doctor, Matt Smith, but has a wooden handle.

The revision comes some fourteen years since the original Eighth Doctor image was established for the 1996 TV Movie; this is now felt to be a little out of date and the new costume - still a work in progress - is said to be used for future promotional purposes.

No other information in known at present, but it is believed to have the blessing of the BBC.

Doctor Who apparel is never out of date.

So, the Doctor cut and dyed his hair, grew some facial hair, got a new sonic screwdriver (which subsequently was destroyed) and threw on some clothes he found in NEXT?

The dubiously canonical becomes even more dubious.
