Wow, so the Leafs have more defensemen than forwards now. What has Burke got cooking now? We have no centres, one decent winger, and a bus load of defensemen. I've heard of 'building from the back', but this is insane.
The lunatic in me hopes that Burke can find a new home for Finger.

I'm pretty sure we only took the D to make the salary work. He only has a 150 k cap hit and is done by the end of the season, so I don't see him as part of the team's long term plans at all.
Finger is gone to the Marlies if the Leafs need cap space.

I think Detroit is going to have a strong late-season push and finish no worse than 6th, though. They won't be the 8th seed. I also think Calgary is going to get a playoff spot at the expense of either the Avs or the Preds.... hopefully the Avs.

Absolutely. If I had to guess who they'd be facing, I'd say Vancouver. 3rd vs. 6th. Of course, anything can happen. Vancouver could lose the division to the Avs and it's not as if we've even clinched a playoff spot. But that match-up seems more likely than any other if I had to take a stab at seeding.Marvie_3 said:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the NHL is using a proper bracket system in the playoffs this year, no? In other words, seeding will only determine first round match-ups, but not afterwards. The winner of the 1st vs. 8th series will play the same team, regardless of which wins. This is what I've heard, but I couldn't find anything to confirm.
Ray Zero got fleeced. Even though PotOCoffee has flashes of good play he always goes back into long stretches of doing nothing and you'll think he's a healthy scratch. He played on a line with Sundin and still couldn't score 25 goals. When Pot walks away to play with his buddy Antropov in the summer, Leafs have the benefit of a 21 year old prospect to try and develop. I disagree, Poni is a decent 2nd liner. He can put up 50-60 points, and does pretty much everything decent enough. Pittsburgh needed some help on the wing for Malkin and Poni should in theory should work out well with him. They tried Caputi, he is way too weak for the NHL right now and needs more time in the AHL, he is a decent prospect but the chances that he even becomes a Ponikarovsky are not that great. I don't think it matters to Pittsburgh whether Poni walks in the offseason. Their goal should be to win now while they have Sid, Malkin, Staal and Fleury locked up.

Caps would have to augment that with another tougher, stay at home d-man. Kaberle can skate, move the puck and make the first pass out of the zone to the forwards. That is HUGE come playoff time when teams forecheck with a frenzy.pringles said:
