Wait, people hate KOTH?

They're my favourite maps in the game, I would like them to come up so much more often.

Me too. Anything involving a payload in annoying. No one coordinates and if you're attacking people have started leaving the match before it starts in fear of turrets.

Just found the ReaperNames twitter account and I can't stop browsing it. Sums up my experience perfectly.

Sometimes I think about trying Reaper because tbh, he's kind of strong right now. But... I don't want to be one of these people.

I'd classify it...

Enjoyable:
Lijiang Tower
Ilios
Nepal
Numbani
Hollywood
Dorado
King's Row

Eh Okay:
Anubis
Gibraltar
Route 66

Please Go Away:
Hanamura
Volskaya Industries

I am a Genji player, have more than twice the playtime as him than my 2nd most played. And personally would not want speed boost, it messes up my movement and during his ult when it's difficult to keep track of enemies because you are so close to them it becomes even more difficult when you are moving so fast.

Not to mention the biggest flaw with speed boost is when you are around the edge of the effective area you will go from boost to no boost to boost which further messes up your play.

The only time I would want speed boost is when I have to run back to the point from spawn or want to avoid a big ult like the ones from McCree, Mei, D.Va, Hanzo, Pharah, Bastion or Roadhog.

Super late reply to this but honestly that's just your ability to adapt to the speed boost that's determining your efficacy during it. Objectively, having speed boost with Genji is better than not, and if shielded Lucio pushes forward with you, you don't have much to worry about regarding stepping outside of the zone. This is especially true when the fight occurs on a capture objective, it's easy for Lucio to stay close enough to ensure you're always boosted.

Ultimately I feel that speed boost is good with Genji's ult because otherwise someone like Lucio can outrun you, or Mercy can fly away from you, and if you are rushing in with shielded Genji, those supports must go first. Speed boost can have a big impact on your ability to pin them down. So many bad players die to Genji's two swipe ult, but a good Lucio shouldn't let that happen, and a well positioned mercy is hard to tie down too. Synergy with other ults is becomes increasingly significant at higher levels of play and while Genji gets a slight speedboost from the ult itself, it's not enough to negate the speed boost that their teams Lucio can easily employ to allow their entire team to escape from your range.

Hmm I really like Gibraltar. One of my favorites.

I don't like Gibraltar because of how the payload checkpoints are set up. There too little space between them, in my opinion, and it leads to either easy defense or quick movement on offense and usually a steamroll either way. I've had a few good matches on it, but most of the time I'm usually bored or frustrated.

Stacking multiple of the same hero has got to be the dumbest thing about this game and I wish competitive mode would limit in.

We were absolutely steamrolling on defense on the first round of Hollywood. Then in the last minute they switched to 4 tracers. Before we could counter they had gotten the point.
Beyond dumb.

They need hero limits, or one of our ideas was, if you pick a hero that is already in play on your team you get a diminished version of him or her, every duplicate you get longer cool downs, lower health etc

My crew is guilty of the same thing also. We once won the final push of a escort map by just going 3x Winston. Super dumb.

I've warmed up to them somewhat but for a while, yeah, I hated KOTH. Just seemed very random as to whether you'd win or lose based on whether you managed to win the first team fight or not. Once someone captured a point it seemed very difficult to break in effectively, especially with randoms. It especially seemed random because of how often one team would steamroll the first point, and then the other team would steamroll the second.

I think that's happening less now as people kind of figure out how to group up and attack all at once, but I still feel like there are issues with KOTH.

Fuck Tracer. She's my most hated character. I can barely fucking hit her stupid tiny body zipping around all over the place like a fucking mosquito. Fuck her.

Over lunch, I had time for exactly one match. Of course, it's Nepal. Instabummed.

2 people on my team are over rank 100. They both pick Genji. We proceed to lose spectacularly. They both quit before the next round starts. I've got medals in every category at this point as Roadhog.

2 more people join. They're both in their 50's. We stomp the team so hard that we are basically spawn camping them from even entering the Sanctum, taking it 100-0. The next round was a lot more fun, with us winning in Overtime 100-99.

It's almost like rank means jack shit in this game, and bad picks are bad picks and bad players are bad players.

Man, just got done with a game that where I was Winston and a Mei kept tailing me freezing everyone for me. Probably my favorite combo yet
Any other recommend combos you guys suggest? Still new so any advice is useful

Killing Tracers from high above with my Pharah is one of my favorite moments. Those blinks. They do nothing.

Late game Winston or D.Va stacking has a super high success rate.

This is the game's first season for competitive, so it's possible we'll see some restrictions for the next season. I wouldn't expect this season to be anything but exactly how it is in PTR.

Great:
Dorado
Hollywood
King's Row
Watchpoint: Gibraltar

Good:
Hanamura
Nepal
Numbani
Route 66

Okay:
Ilios
Lijiang Tower
Temple of Anubis
Volskaya Industries

There are no bad maps.

imo the meta is shitty right now though

Rein and Mercy nearly a hard requirement regardless of map of game type, which i guess is fine

but the B tier hero's are pretty disappointing, and something as fun and dynamic as Genji in D tier, and Mei in F tier (lol)

you have some pretty significant problems when your most interesting hero's don't have a certain viability in competitive play

Blink > 20 headshots in the span of a second > Dead

Repeat for like 3 people then she runs away

It's tons of fun...if you're the tracer

Surprised both you and multiple others here dislike Lijiang Tower. I think it might just be myt favorite.

Ilios is the only CP map I'm not a huge fan of. Nepal is alright. Lijiang is love.

Holy shit.

That moment when you get POTG by just staring at dat ass.

one day i'll figure out when i get potg, drop down a spray and just jump off a cliff lol.

So people would rather leave the match than go Pharah or soilder? Seriously?

I think its actually getting to the point that even if your team is good at destroying turrets its just not fun. Had a great voice group and were steam rolling on 66 but after a while we just got tired of destroying turrets with the ocassional Torb ult panic pausing the destruction. Eventually it just degraded into a brawl with no one even bothering to deal with them, had some great matches before that and it was our last match anyway.

I don't see Mei ever getting out of the dumpster at the competitive level. Her best bet is to walk around and left click, but a good team is going to jump on that and protect their teammates when she's vulnerable up close. She has a powerful ultimate, but she's a mild annoyance at best 90+% of the time.
The only reason she's elevated from terrible pick to bad pick in pubs is due to the lack of communication/awareness.
She's also directly countered by Zarya's shields, who shows up >60% of the time in Attack/KOTH

Genji is countered by Mcree, who is still a consistent pick and is another character that thrives on lack of communication when picking off stragglers one by one.

I decided I was going to play my 4th placement match over lunch but of course random call from the field during the second match that I had to take. Goddamn it. Assholes calling at 12:20 PM. I feel bad for my team, but at least it's just the test environment. I did manage to get the 5th game in and we won but the other team had a drop in that game as well leaving them shorthanded the second round, where they were completely stuffed on Hanamura.

New hero options on PTR. Hold to GA and hold to sprint. Neat.

I made a character guide for new players:

Genji: I hate him so much. Needs nerf
McCree: Get a watch you asshole. Needs nerf
Pharah: Loves justice, would hate gamergate. Needs nerf.
Reaper: wears black in the desert so he obviously has the WORST BO. Needs shower.
Soldier 76: Killer shoulders. Needs nerf
Tracer: You are going to make me puke. Needs nerf.
Bastion: Trying to get potg and is no help at all. Needs nerf.
Hanzo: so handsome. Needs nerf.
Junkrat: all junk rats are just pressing all the buttons. Needs nerf.
Mei: all the other heroes talk about her behind her back. Needs removal from game.
Torbjorn: always on defense with himself. Needs nerf.
Widowmaker: Always on attack for some reason. Talks too much for a sniper. Needs a functional combat haircut
D.Va: Everyone laughs at your ultimate. Needs nerf
Reihardt: Funniest character Needs nerf
Roadhog: oh you're proud of your impossible hook thingy? That's cool. Needs daily insulin.
Winston: cutest. He's perfect.
Zarya: needs better skins cause she is the prettiest. Needs nerf.
Lucio: you're wrong about this team. It's not going to work out. Needs reality check.
Mercy: heroes sometimes die if they are across the map alone for no reason. Why is mercy on the payload alone? Needs nerf
Symmetra: always walk out of her teleporter and head immediately in the wrong direction. Needs nerf
Zenyatta: everyone hold up, we gotta wait for this fuck. Needs beef.
