Perfect Dark Cancelled, The Initiative Shut Down

Perfect dark was never good.
Fuck that IP.

No way dude.

This should've gotten cancelled years ago but after last year's trailer it looked so good. I really can't believe it

California is going to a $30 min wage so MS said screw it.

Ps…I don't know where those studios are

Santa Monica California, it's like a top 5 most expensive city in the US. Every developer at this studio made more than $200K a year (many significantly more).

This is better than E3
Joking.... I think
Well Phil's speech about them having a momentum now is a joke worthy a stand-up show.

But seriously, if you like games then don't joke about this. There is a big risk that we'll just have COD, Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon and Candy Crush in the future. This day signals that they're abandoning everything that isn't already a successful multi million seller IP. More studios will go. More games will be cancelled. They even cut Turn 10 in half. I assume they'll spread out the cuts between the earnings reports, to show the stock market that they're in control.

MS =/= Western Games development.

MS have been incompetent long before Western Games Development started collapsing due to wokeness.

In fact, when it comes to development and publishing incompetence, MS is in a league of their own. They're now decades long in their history of studio mismanagement, cancelled games, fake trailers that hide back-end development chaos and studio closures.

There's really no-one else more uniquely shit at making and shipping great games (or even any games for that matter) as MS. It's not even close.
They are literally most of it with the amount of studios they onw, Ubisoft and EA aren't any better either. a few good games from smaller devs won't carry the western industry.

Must have still been a mess. What a disaster of a studio from start to finish. I liked both their imaginary trailers at least.

See Miku - and this is not a dig - but you told me that I was "trying to stir shit up" in the past, well, this is the reason why - I spent 510€ back in November 2020 for a XSX on the PROMISE of having good, exclusive games like Everwild, Perfect Dark (they were really hyping the initiative as this "superstar" studio), Fable, Starfield etc etc and, look where we're at now...no-show after no-show, broken promises upon broken promises, the few (then) exclusives proved to be mediocre (if not outright cack), studio closures etc etc - and people wonder why some jumped ship to the Ponystation quintuple ? Indiana Jones, Hifi Rush and a good Forza Horizon aren't enough for this absolute 5 year trainwreck...

Minus the braindead hardcore fanboys that just like shit on everything, there's always a reason friend why consumers switch brands/jump ship/whatever you wanna call it, MS's/Xbox's output this gen has been a complete and utter farce, no 2 ways about it, it's friggin' disgraceful is what it is, the joke of this industry for better or for worse.

I've been reading the news this whole afternoon man and...I don't know whether I should laugh or cry...long gone is the era of the amazing OG Xbox and the X360 and that's what gets me the most, I'm not exactly happy with these news but...they had their chances, they fumbled and in the end, they only got themselves to blame, what a shame...

Given what we know so far, this is probably the best decision. A lot of these studio's appear to be very poorly managed. Hopefully the developers can land on their feet with a fresh attitude, which will become more difficult as AI takes an increasing role in the industry.

Looking forward to Asmongold & Laura Fryer's take on this.

It's funny how Microsoft tries to expand outside business software. They start out with a good product then proceed to shit all over it.

Again, if we don't hear anything on Fable by the end of year, it's done. PD showed off MORE in a Shorter amount of time and STILL got the Ax.
They showed off pre-alpha gameplay in February, I think it should be fine. But then again, considering the scale of these layoffs, it seems like no one is safe.

I wonder if the top brass is thinking of pushing Xbox 3rd party and cut of the hardware for next gen and not going another one. I was really looking forward to seeing more of Perfect Dark. it had been almost two decades.

As shit as MS is as a publisher, in this case it was more of an issue of them being incompetent by not pulling the plug on this studio much sooner.

The studio was a woke cesspool of typical Californian progressive activist assholes who cared more about using this as a platform for political messaging than actually making a good game.

The most recent reveal of them taking a beloved IP and turning it into some shitty woke, anti-capitalism, environmentalist BS is self-evident. These mofos have no idea what gamers like and instead were making a game that encapsulated their own self-indulgent attempts at mental masturbation.

Publishers need to stop making games in California and Montreal. Those entire cities are ideologically captured. You won't get anything from them that will appeal to your global gaming audiences, because folks living in those cities live in their own sanitized ideological bubbles that are entirely divorced from reality; and so divorced from anything one might draw meaningful and valuable creative inspiration from.

Pre-Alpha footage, in early 2025, after being announced in 2020.

It's tracking like a game in development hell. If they can't show (or announce) more than Pre-Alpha footage after 6 Years, it's done.

Ubisoft and EA aren't much better than MS??!?

Are you high?

Those pubs have gone to shit too, but they're still infinitely better at publishing, shipping and creating appealing games than MS could ever hope to be. You cannot even be serious with that comparison.

Possibly, yeah. I'd like to remain hopeful on this one since I've been looking forward to it. :(

That's a damn shame. Was really looking forward to this.
What the hell have these guys been doing these years? Didn't they say they had a playable version that was awesome several years ago?
