Perfect Dark Cancelled, The Initiative Shut Down

The only game I enjoyed was Forza Horizon 5 ( not affected )
I think Turn 10 made the engine and cars for Playground. Not sure though. Guess we'll see about how Horizon isn't affected.
I know that is something sounds way unreasonable. but seriously, who at the management looked at grounded or avowed and said to himself self yup this is a multi-million dollar seller right there?
I doubt they expected a multi-million dollar seller…
But I liked Avowed, it was one of the surprises this year, not a 10 but the gameplay is really solid and I liked it about 10 thousand times more than everybody's darling Expedition 33 which I dropped after one evening.
And tbh, Obsidian is very likely Microsoft's most productive studio right now. Small teams and AA budgets.
I am in front-end and back-end development projects. When the project I am working on is done ( for whatever reason, end of contract, short project, timed project, etc ), I get moved to a new project. I don't get fired ( unless I did a shit job ).
Yeah well if that's how it works then they need to do the same way. Move people around between projects. Don't sack them!

And don't close the studio!

System 3 from the C64 days is still around. Mark Cale is still the studio head. He might have 1 employee idk but the studio is still around. Respect!

Microsoft is just plain awful at this stuff. Deserves a Google graveyard meme if there isn't already one.

oh come on. I honestly blame the younger generation, the only thing gamer kids want is to dab on their homies in fortnite type games. I wanted everwild so bad. Gaming is going to die a horrible slow death as microtransaction multiplayer games take over.

Can't say I'm surprised as the games development certainly went through quite a bit of hell, but man, that's still rough. I can't believe how many people have lost jobs in this industry in the last 5 years, it's so wild.

I think we're in a tough time for video games. Now, only Playstation and Nintendo dominate the market.

I hope Sega or even XBOX make a comeback, because the industry doesn't look good.

This studio was supposed to be their Naughty Dog competitor. LMAO what a fucking sad and pathetic company. Couldnt be any happier I sold my Ex-Box.

The game must have been a Redfall level of bad for it to be canned.

The trailer looked dmn good as well.

FFS. I think this might be the first cancellation that I cared about.
Sounds like that trailer may have been "faked gameplay", which sucks because it looked fleshed out and competent (at least with clear mechanics of combat and traversal)

My condolences to whoever was excited for this.

Xbros should forget about this shit and go play either the remaster or the PC port of the original game.

It's been so long since the last game, I wonder how many people actually care anymore.

I wrote a comment on this a couple days back; I don't know why so many people clutch their pearls when, for most of the gaming industry history it's been clear a third player is never competitive.

Sega spiraled into irrelevance once Sony entered the market. Xbox was only "competitive" for the front half of one generation and that was largely because Sony fumbled the ball with the PS3 launch.

Xbox hasn't been "competition" for Sony or Nintendo since 2008/2009. The only reason Xbox didn't go the way of Sega sooner was due to Microsoft's deep pockets.

Part of the reason why "the industry doesn't look good" is because Microsoft realized they would never be able to complete, so they decided to use their thick wallet to consolidate the industry.

I don't think that's true. Microsoft just has bad management for the Xbox "brand" and studios.

Wow a group of low energy people talking about how great everything is but without any real excitement, I get the idea they treated this as their retirement gig and it's not surprising they never made anhything.
I doubt they even tried.
yep. take the money & run walk leisurely...

So much for their quadruple AAAA game.

How many years was that cooking? 7?

Imagine if Phil never bought all them studios. The ones they had can't ship a single game.

Fuck man, that trailer in the last Xbox Showcase looked really good. I guess it was a fake trailer then.

Yup, Its not going to die its just evolving into something us older gamers don't care about.

The truth is always in the numbers, games like Roblox and Fortnite make in 1 month what takes a single player AAA game like the Last of us or God of War to make in 6 months.

The younger generation don't care about the tech in games, graphics, consoles, story, etc. they just want to play something as background noise to socialize with their friends. This is why the MP/Live service games do so well. Most of them don't barely even have the attention span to play a single player game.

Every now and then they will make games that is gear to our audience but its going to be few and far between. This has been happened since this new console gen IMO.

It all sucks but its the truth ....

Fuck, he's doubling down on this

Can't believe this fanboy is gaming "journalist"

I think he's being sarcastic. As in, MS and their evangelists acting like they're doing so well, and this is normal, but please pack your desk and GTFO, you're laid off and/or fired. With closures.

Don't care about making it happen? Then let others do it for you! Fuckin' morons!

They already did that, Crystal Dynamics has been on this for several years. And yes they should give the IP to them or at least contract them to finalize it. It looked almost finished!

This is good though, it means the games made for the audience that includes you cannot afford to be corporate slop, they have to actually appeal to you in order to make money.

...And then there were threads flying about it here, saying, we are in the best period of gaming since the past 40 odd years, 2026 is going to be an absolute stellar year.... what are people complaining about? Well here is the proof, or how 2014 was the worst year in gaming....really?!!? 2014 compared to where we are now?

I have been calling these "lobby games" as a pejorative. I've stopped short of calling much of the PC space "lobby gamers" but here's why I don't like it.

Gaming was for introvert nerds like me. Then the normies figured out a way to add social dynamics and now they like this shit more than me. Not because they are nerds and like the games but rather so they can chat to people and try to have sex with them or catch up with aunt jennie in timbucktwo.

I resent anyone who is using my hobby to promote their biological imperative. It's like shitting in my food.

I'm specifically talking to the crowd who only play games to hang with your buds. I see you. I know you. I've been you. We are not the same. To hear your pathetic attacks against companies like Nintendo and Sony while you play Overwatch with your friend group and enjoy your social activity is so far beneath my contempt that even outlining it here would be bannable were I to put it into words.

If this crowd had no buds they would never pick up a game again. That's what I don't like. The game is irrelevant to them. The activity they are doing isn't gaming. It's hanging out. The game is background music. Elevator music, lobby music. Lobby games. The game they are playing is Discord. The music they are listening to is the game. In this way, gaming is lessened. Relegated.

Ridiculous but what can one expect at this point? Game was in turmoil before they showed one second of gameplay.

This just reminds me of all the times this Gen that I saw criticism and doubt over Xbox's ability to develop games written off as concern trolling (not necessarily on GAF).

When it comes to Xbox it is not concern trolling, it is a fucking intervention. They need help.
