Perfect Dark Zero GameSpot review

The humans will never win. ZOMBIE POWA! ZOMBIE POWA!

It's begging for a Source release. Or maybe that new They Hunger Source version they are making could have that for the multiplayer. Or maybe I could get back to talking about PDZ. If anyone's played the Infected mode for it yet give us all the details on how it is

I cant question the other scores like gameplay...what not but anyone who gives this game 9 for graphics is either blind or has been sitting in a cave somewhere for the last 5 years.

because you've played the game?

Oh I don't blame a single soul who was going to buy a 360 regardless of PDZ. I would buy it myself after that review but the term "killer app" being thrown around is a tad premature. I await you guys impressions of the game with empathy but I really want to hear honest impressions from a fan of the first game more than anything.
Don't see many screams of killer app, I see alot of people relieved it doesn't completely suck.

I have! A 9 for graphics is laughable. The graphics are incredibly uneven, and I don't think the good parts are enough to make up for the really, really terrible parts.

Greg never over-rates games. He is always very tough. If anything, you can always trust how negative he will be towards a game.

Gotta agree. It's clearly a game that got caught in mid-transition to next gen. Some parts are very pretty and full of high-res textures, others look like passable current-gen game. It's a world removed from Condemned or even COD2, which are true next-gen games.

I'm glad the game is scoring well, but don't get it assuming it will be a technical showcase for the 360, because it isn't.

The visuals, as far as details, aren't much of a concern to me, as long as the animation and multi-action is hot. I thought that Goldeneye, even for the time, was bland-looking and PD, too busy most of the time, detail-wise. That said, PDZ is gaudy and beautiful-looking at the same time...which is kind of Rare's hallmark since they have been making games that use 3D and 3D-derived visuals. What I love about Rare's FPS titles is the animation and feeling of really intense and deliberate gunplay moments.

So Gamespot have now set what it takes to get a 9.0 on 360 and the bar is so very very low, Kasavin must have very little expectations for Next Gen.

its insulting to the guys at Bizarre Creations rating their visuals on the same level as this.

hey faceless, are bot personalities in PDZ?

Haven't seen a reviewer say anything about the issue so I was wondering.

I thought I read yesterday that they were in, but I don't remember where...

:lol *wipes tears away*

BEST. THREAD. EVER.

The crow eating jokes, the Kasavin love... and PDZ getting a 9... Now I really AM pissed at MS for short-changing us on launch systems.

Enjoy it guys, I'll have mine soon enough.

Damn You rare for making this game so good and giving me the greatest urge to go and spend $400 just to play this game!

The video review is up it sounds like greg really likes it..

i am kinda surprised what's with all the negitive oppinions if he likes it so much the hardest critic.. he gave the orginal spinter cell 8.6 people hated him..

seriously, it's a good thing I don't have $400
Lucky you! I received plenty of money for my birthday so I could easily afford it. Im feeling a very big urge to go out and spend the money on a brand new Xbox360 with a brand new copy of PD0>:(

Yup.

While I'm glad to see PDZ has turned out to be a solid sequel, it still doesn't match the original in features.

For the next PD, I want (if it's not planned for DLC already):

blood
more realistic art style
cheat system with target times
more weapons (match the 40+ from the original)

and plenty more stuff I can't think of right now because I'm so damn happy PDZ didn't flop. :)

I still need to finish reading this AMAZING thread, but I stopped to ask this: you did NOT just post this list of missing features again did you? I'm stunned...just stunned.

Wow!

"Taken as a whole, Perfect Dark Zero is decidedly one of the best, fully featured Xbox 360 games so far, and it's a compelling reason to spring for the system if you've been on the fence. While the game doesn't reinvent the first-person shooter, which has been a mainstay of action gaming for more than a decade, it delivers one of the most highly refined and spectacular examples of this brand of gameplay to date. From its ravishing good looks and totally first-rate audio, to the believable feel of its outstanding weapons, to its wealth of single- and multiplayer options, Perfect Dark Zero delivers just about everything you could hope for from a first-person shooter. "

WOW.

I have to see this on my system. In HOURS!!!

"From its ravishing good looks"

PDZ has got to be one of the UGLIEST games I've seen in a very long time.

It is the type of graphics that art directors at companies I use to work at would save off in 'special' piles of demo reels.

I gotta admit, Greg's review has me very interested. I really did want this game to turn out, but it just seemed like it was going to fail. The impressions we've heard over the last few days have been really negative too. I'm completely shocked.

I almost always agree with GK, for some reason, so this is actually a pretty big deal. I mean, I obviously judge things on my own, but his reviews usually give me an idea before hand. There was one major exception, of course. He rated Far Cry very highly, but I found the game to be an absolute shit fest (with amazing visuals). Hated it.

Hopefully that doesn't occure again...

Well, can't wait to see other reviews.

Game looks hot in the video review, light reflecting of the guns, volumetric smoke, sweet looking enviroments. I barely even noticed the shitty looking characters.

Looks like Greg is trying to single-handedly save 360 launch, all we need him to do now is give RR6 like a 3.2 to proove he's still tough.

Good Lord, the graphics in the video review make the game look AMAZING. I'm sold after watching this video review... the way he describes it makes it sound like a ton of fun. Especially the co-op part.

btw.. those pics up there, way to pick out the worst pics you could find. those aren't even right... they all are washed out with the brightness and gamma too high... the game in motion looks amazing, with crisp vibrant colors and it runs smoooooooooth, like butta. amazing looking game, probably one of the best i've ever seen, graphics wise (other than the shitty character designs).

Yep, the score is laughable, they will realize that when games on all next gen consoles will look 2-3x as good as this (2 times effects-wise, 5 times the geometry, 3 times as good animations)

I don't think Greg K reviewed Far Cry. I think Jason Ocampo reviewed both Far Cry games.

The only possible answer is that Greg Kasavin has been paid off and also he really hates crows and thus wants to eliminate the population by making them all get eaten.

Suck it down.

what's it like in fantasy land? i've always wondered.

hahaha, three times as good animations?

how did you get that figure?
I think the animation in PDZ is really bad and I suppose it will be mostly perfect this gen. you can say thats factor 10 or it is factor 2, whatever, it will look much more realistic.

"Mostly perfect"?

The only difference will be the amount of animations available at a time, not the quality.

You're right.

For some reason, I thought it was GK. I suppose the fact that he has reviewed most other recent (big) FPS titles caused me to remember that one wrong...

The difference will be on many different levels.

First, yes, more animations, different people moving and behaving differently, not just like clones.

Second the quality of the animations, more lifelike, more down to little details.

Third the animations being more physically correct.

How the hell are you supposed to review a game against games that dont even exist yet?

If you score games against others, not that gamespot does, you can only score them against what's already available.

quetz67 said:
Man, who cares? The increase in graphical quality will be MUCH more visible than that between Halo 1 and Halo 2 for example

Yeah! Like between Halo 1 and Chornicles of Riddick to say the least! THAT'S WHAT NEXT GENERATION IS ALL ABOUT FUCK YEAH!

*Can't wait to see what GS will give to *proper* next gen stuff like Gears of War in the graphics department. Probably 12 o 15 out of 10.

PGR3? Kameo?

And no, if you know a little about computer graphics and the power of the machine you can score it against what is easily possible. I know the effects and lighting are very good, but the geometry for instance cant deny its last gen roots.
