Wow, so I'm really out of the loop. I had no idea that Doug Elmendorf was already replaced as CBO director by a Bush economic adviser. The good news however, is that this guy, who was specifically chosen by Republicans because he would make their policies look better, seems on the level:

The new Republican-appointed director of the Congressional Budget Office delivered some bad news … to the party’s “Reaganomics” devotees: Tax cuts don’t pay for themselves through turbocharged economic growth.

Keith Hall, who served as an economic adviser to former President George W. Bush, made the pronouncement at his first news conference after the CBO reduced its 2015 budget deficit forecast by $60 billion.

Hall spoke to reporters recently, shortly before lawmakers returned to Capitol Hill, and he threw cold water at one of the Republican Party’s top economic principles. “No, the evidence is that tax cuts do not pay for themselves,” Hall told reporters. “And our models that we’re doing, our macroeconomic effects, show that.”

Maybe it was all needless worrying. Even if this guy was the most adamant supply-sider on the planet, it would probably still be pretty hard to fudge the numbers with all the other career bureaucrats at the CBO.

Where did the "taxcuts pay for themselves" meme come from?

The twist is he's working for the just about to be announced Biden campaign.

It wouldn't shock me, the draft Biden guys are out in force. They're holding up a banner and everything.

If he does run I imagine these guys would walk through fire for him.

These draft Biden guys are a pretty good cross-section of the Democratic party.

Secret Service just showed up.

Haha GOPers blocked in Senate. Reid is still king.

“This is a deal that will far outlast one administration. The President may have the luxury of vacating office in a few months, but many of our responsibilities extend beyond that,” [McConnell] said. “The American people will remember where we stand today."

Yep, on the wrong side of history, as usual.

"To my Democratic friends: You own this. You own every 'I' and every 'T' and every bullet, you own everything that is to follow, and it's going to be holy hell." - Lindsey Graham
Get fucked Lindsey. Go crying back to the comforting bosom of your Bibi.

The national review surprisingly opposes new civil rights legislation because the something something racism is dead

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/423838/senator-murkowski-voting-rights-act

lol:

For example, they contain much that has nothing to do with the Supreme Court’s decision, and they themselves violate the Constitution by prohibiting practices that are not actually racially discriminatory but only have racially disproportionate effects.

Hit piece on Sanders? It's not a matter of told ya...it's simply, inevitable. Rising in the polls eh? How about a lil taste...

Yet since the Great Recession, young intellectuals have been rediscovering Marx, and campus politics, fairly left wing to begin with, have veered into ever more radical terrain as movements like Occupy Wall Street

Code for youth corruption...lmao...

Good, should be interesting to see if it causes any drop in his chances. Would have to get over that bit sooner or later.

Who's the guy in the middle?

I was gonna quote and post the same thing.

I mean... Jesus. They just told on themselves.

There was some idiot legislator in Texas a year or two ago that said they weren't trying to stop Black people from voting, but rather trying to stop Democrats from voting. It just so happened that many of those people were Black, so...

Politico has run several hit pieces against Sanders. With exposure comes scrutiny but I think Sanders will be able to survive it.

Lenin I think.

On that assumption, we should make clear to the CEOs of banks holding frozen Iranian funds that their misplaced reliance on the president’s lawlessness would not necessarily excuse them from the obligation to comply with existing federal sanctions laws. And if they release billions in funds to Khamenei, they risk billions in civil (and possibly even criminal) liability once President Obama leaves office.
good luck with that lmao

Senator Murkowski (R-AK) just cosponsored the Senate bill to restore the Voting Rights Act, becoming the first Republican to do so.

http://www.thenation.com/article/restoring-the-voting-rights-act-now-has-bipartisan-support/

This lends a little more credence to me to the suggestions that Alaska may be moving slowly towards the blue side. Not that it matters all that much, but every electoral vote counts.

Oh it absolutely is. Murkowski is also a genuinely good Republican for 2015.

Murkowski is one of the only reasonable Republicans left in the Senate (Collins is the other one, and McCain has his moments). That's probably since she won reelection as a write-in so she knows she doesn't have to kowtow to a crazy primary base.

Hope Begich gives it another shot in 2020, he came stupid close.

Alaska is kinda like Nevada, the conservatives are more libertarian than the establishment; however, Nevada has Vegas and Reno-Sparks-Carson to tip it lean-blue. It wouldn't surprise me if Alaska becomes a swing state that leans-red soon.

I agree, considering the growing minority populations of Alaska, the (slow) trend towards gender parity, and the fact that Anchorage makes up more than 40% of Alaska's total population.

It sure does suck that freaking everything in politics has to turn into a court battle about weird technicalities that no one would ever care about otherwise.

This time it's under the ridiculous notion that Obama has to provide congress details about a side deal he wasn't even a part of, because he has to release to congress "the text of the agreement and all related materials and annexes".

How in the world does that statement get taken into meaning he has to release information he doesn't even have?

Bobby Jindal: Donald Trump "looks like he's got a squirrel" on his head

After Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal delivered a speech slamming his fellow presidential candidate Donald Trump, he sat down with CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett to weigh in on Trump's recent insults of yet another Republican candidate, Carly Fiorina.

"I think it's pretty outrageous for him to be attacking anybody's appearance when he looks like he's got a squirrel sitting on his head. I think he should stop attacking other people's appearances," Jindal said.

That's some serious political debate there.

Yeah, I was wondering if the renaming of the mountain was really just about climate change headlines or if it was just a 2-in-1 for native pandering. I do wonder though, has the oil crash affected the economy there in a way similar to Alberta, Canada? Because Alberta voted in a bunch of non-conservatives and was wondering if the same is possible in Alaska?

Here's hoping! Joe, Bernie and Hillary would make this so much more interesting!
Are we sending Uncle Joe to fight ISIS or something?
That would be amazing, assuming he had some superpowers.:p
