Lmao, out of all the times Rubio could have advocated for getting Trump elected, he chose the weekend from hell where Trump denigrates a gold star mother and spouts Russian propaganda on Crimea. Seriously, thank you Little Marco.

They must be going all in on this. If Trump wins FL, they win. If he loses FL, they lose. Hopefully, he'll be the second person after Carly to lose twice this year.

Also, Grayson is fucked. He just got dumped on for being a domestic abuser. Even in FL, that is kind of frowned upon by the general public.

I don't get how Rubio can be so spineless.

It's not like he went through a normal republican primary. The shit Trump said about him and to him should make him not want to do anything for him if he had any self respect. I guess he has none.

Unrelated to that threat in OT, is there any way to respond to people of color who say "I won't vote for Hillary Clinton because she's racist"?

I know about a half dozen kids who adamantly won't vote for Clinton. Two of them are black socialists who believe conditions are so bad that things can't possibly get worse under Trump. Another is an Arab Muslim who won't vote Trump pretty much out of self-preservation, but prefers Johnson because "the free market" and because he's pretty openly anti-feminist. Last, I know a few Trump voters who aren't white, but think Clinton is actually worse because of the Superpredators shit, and because Trump opened his country club to minorities or whatever.

As a white guy, should I just not get involved? Should probably add that the vast majority of "I'm not voting for Hillary because she's evil" people I know are white kids who haven't voted before.

1) Do these people not have older relatives that can give them some historical perspective?
2) Google + Trump + enter ethnic group here. You'll find plenty are stuff in the past year to say nothing about his life history. In fact if you want to go over Trump's life history link them to this. Have fun.
3) #ObamaIsWithHer
4) Pretty much any Republican in office would represent a restriction of voting rights. Point them to North Carolina, Arizona, Wisconsin and any other state with a Republican governor.
5) Pretty much all Republican economic policies would be worse for your average minority. Have you seen Trump tax "plan". Where is his healthcare "plan"? Do they care about Obamacare?
6) Clinton and the Democratic platform has pretty specific and extensive plans and language with regard to helping improve the lives of minorities. Clinton also has extensive history working for and with minority communities. She's said a few dumb things over the years but there' no question she was in the "trenches". LMAO if someone thinks "he opened his club to minorities" even comes close to comparing.
7) Did they watch the DNC at all? Did they compare that to the RNC? There are a bunch of speeches you could link them to on Youtube that might help.

Even if you're a white guy, I'd encourage you to take the time to talk some sense into your friends. I dunno how if a POC's primary concern is racism can not vote for Clinton. Shit just Trump's words themselves are making race relations worse in this country. They need sense slapped into them.

There's this bizarre fetishization of the white vote that I see a lot. Like everything a candidate does is evaluated in relation to the white vote, in particular the white working class vote.

This twitter thread kind of goes into my feelings on the matter of the Democratic "abandonment" of the white working class vote.

TLDR:
They never abandoned them, large swaths of the "white working class" are just salty people started paying attention to the plights of minorities and women.

My biggest problem with modern republicans isn't the racism/sexism/general bigotry. That's awful and totally against my way of viewing the world. It isn't putting gun rights/big business ahead of the average joe. Also awful stuff. It's not global climate change denying or other environmental issues. None of these bug me as much as the one thing that really gets my goat about the modern platform.

It's that they say they are for smaller government yet always end up expanding it whenever they get control of the executive and legislative branch. The one thing they always claim to stand for yet always fuck up. The blatant hypocrisy of it gets my goat.

It makes me wonder if he and Paul Ryan truly feel that there's a chance Trump could win. It's the only thing that makes sense in mind.

Naw, they just want to make it through this shit show without pissing of sizable portions of a base they have to cater to in four years.

Edit: only time will tell whos gambit is smarter, Cruz or Rubio

Republicans always seemingly forget and line up four years later. That's why they didn't do any of the necessary pivots to actually make 2012 and 2016 reasonable for them to win the white house.

I'm getting real damn tired if young people on my Facebook saying they aren't going to vote.

I'm getting real tired of people on FB telling me I'm not really that Liberal for supporting Clinton after it was clear Sanders lost, despite having voted every year since I turned 18--when they haven't voted once in their fucking lives...

How else would they appease the donors? It doesn't end at lowering their corporate and individual tax rates.

Paul Krugman frequently writes about Paul Ryan bring the largest scam artist in that party.

But then that boggles my mind even more!

I mean, surely the lesson any Republican with a trace of decency must have learned from this year is that pandora has been let out of the box. The Republican establishment no longer has control of the right extremists that have made up their base. If they think Trump is bad, just imagine the loons they rally around in the next four years.

Remove the monster or risk becoming it.

So I've been watching old political videos online. I can't believe how dull Mondale and Dole were as nominees -- I've seen them before but it's been a while especially since I watched Mondale speak. No idea how either one managed to become the nominee.

They faced off and this happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G9AePwl1AE

Wonder what the number would be if we updated that with the Democrat wars since plus Benghazi.

Yuuuup.

The first election I voted in was a midterm. How many people do you think THAT applies to?

Hell I think I remember talking to someone in 2010 who had just turned 18 but wanted to wait until 2012 to vote because they wanted their first time to be special. It's like POLITICS IS NOT SEX

I got to drive through NE Washington last week. Really weird to see so many Trump posters out in front of businesses. Like, anywhere here that would be a death knell to your business. Pity out to any gaffers who get to live in these places, but its really pretty. Maybe its worth the tradeoff. Live with bigots, enjoy living next to a pristine mountain lake.

Not to mention midterm elections are arguably more important than presidential years--the GOP is testament to that fact.

Does anyone know if there's a website with a list of competitive senate/house races and the democratic/strongest progressive candidate likely to win the seat? I'm trying to compile a holistic catalogue of who needs donations and such but it seems like every resource I can find is kinda piecemeal on this information. For instance, 270towin seems to provide a list of competitive races but I can't seem to find any feature that lets me bring up who the democratic nominee is in each race. I'd rather not look each race up individually if I don't have to.

I honestly would be tempted to just write Racist over as many as I could.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/senate/2016_elections_senate_map.html you can just click through to the state/polls.

House is harder obviously.

I remember people unironically proposing Nina Turner as a VP candidate during the primary.

El oh el.

So this would actually be a hilarious bookend.

Here's some senate races you should donate to: http://m.neogaf.com/showpost.php?p=200640834

Had a visit today with my mother, an avowed Trump enthusiast.

Things were genial, but eventually the conversation turned to politics and the election. To how Hillary had created ISIS and would usher in the downfall of the United States if she somehow lied and stole and clawed her way to power. That America was already a lawless state just waiting for Hillary to finish things off. And how BLM had merged with the new Black Panthers (although Black Separatists was the term she used), and how as American bodies were returned to the United States from Benghazi, Hillary had fostered lies to the grieving families and the US as she shared the real truth with Chelsea and Egypt.

Needless to say, we had some interesting discussions.

What I found most interesting was:

1: She didn't care if Trump couldn't find any country we have relations with on a map, or if he knew of their history or complexities, or that generals might recoil from his support of torture and worse (Just count how many Generals Obama has fired, I was asked), only that he represented the fears of the working man and would actually do something about the threats that face us - specifically his ban on Muslims entering from war torn territories.

2: That I'd agree with her after another attack. That we all will.

3: That The Wall is a stupid idea, and a joke that'll never happen.

4: That Pence's warning about Roe vs. Wade is meaningless because it'd also never happen, though she agreed that it's current standing isn't built on the most rock solid of legal foundations.

5: That Trump never asked the Russians to hack us again for the deleted emails - just that he asked them to reveal what they already had in their possession, and that we should be thankful if they did.

6: That while the world at large might not understand Trump's popularity, they understand that Obama and Hillary are weak, while Trump is strong.

7: That she found Trump's questioning of Ghazala Khan's silence during Khizr's speech appalling.

8: That Trump *will* destroy the Republican party, and that it more than deserves to be destroyed.

I'll say this about our family gatherings and the political conversations that result - they're never boring.

And even as she left she begged in hush tones that I not vote for Hillary.

I told her I'd do whatever I could to get her elected, and that Trump would eventually fade into irrelevance.

Welcome to my world. Fun times :)
