Charli finishes 2014 (UK readers: starts 2015 but let’s not go into that) by releasing ‘Sucker’, which is an extraordinary album. There’s pop that sounds like rock, rock that sounds like pop and pop that sounds like pop. There are ballads, there are bangers. It’s loads of things you might have hoped for after ‘True Romance’ and it’s loads of things you wouldn’t have expected after ‘True Romance’. It sounds like a globe-straddling chart behemoth who’s stomped around for as long as you can remember just as much as it sounds like the arrival of a brand new pop queen. Some songs are precision tooled to be Number One, others are designed to be nothing of the sort. There are ups, there are downs. There’s truth, there’s romance. There are booms, there are claps. There’s swearing.

This Is Not A Test was straight fire, then her last album Tim was only on like 2 tracks but given his decline it's not like we've been missing out on some unrealized Missy/Tim classic.

I seriously wish she hadn't called the damn album ARTPOP. If you look at so many reviews they seem more concerned with whether or not it's art rather than the actual quality of music.

Is ARTPOP a cohesive album? No. Is it an album stuffed with some excellent songs? Yes.

Gaga lost the moment she gave a collection of non-transformative pop songs a title that implied something transformative. ARTPOP is too dynamic a name for something that ultimately, while a great pop album, was still pretty static and familiar.

It's literally Gaga's version of 4, but if 4 was instead called "Music That Will Change The Course Of History 4ever". If it's not a paradigm-shifting album, then you better not oversell it in the title.
