madonna's music should have matured as she got older but instead she started to do the opposite beginning with Hard Candy. this isn't me being ageist either, I just think for someone so late in the career with such an impressive legacy that they should be focused on making albums with more artistic merit that aren't really trying to come for hits. her last three albums are beyond embarrassing and are destroying her legacy bit by bit.
Her last album was sort of cringeworthy with the trend-clinging it was doing. I mean I get the whole "trying to appeal to the modern audience" along with your past audience shtick but the execution wasn't successful.

Ever since Hard Candy it's like she's trying desperately to find out what 15 year olds are into and basing her albums around it. To largely disastrous results.

3. The Pleasure Principle | ControlThere are a lot of great songs on Control, but this is the one that really mapped out the rest of her career. There's something a little more subtle and forward-thinking about this than the other stuff she was doing at the time.

YES @ this top 5! Janice has such an amazing discography.
Her album did not go platinum, and I'd be surprised if it sold more than 50.000 copies worldwide (it doesn't have a certificate on the RIAA website so that means it's not even certified aluminum). On the week of its release, it didn't even sell 20.000 copies!
However, 2 On was a success and it went platinum in the States. That's what she got that plaque for.
