Quantum Break PC performance thread

Yeah I would have never said the asset quality is bad in this game. I mean most of the time I can't even really tell because the reconstruction method blurs everything to oblivion anyways. I mean yeah, those textures might look awesome, but it's like I can tell from where I'm sitting.

I'd say 20 or 30.

If you are comparing with prices in retail, yes it is closer to 20/30€.
But if you compare it to the price of new releases on Steam, it's a 10€ difference. Dark Souls 3 is sold for 59.99€ on Steam, for example.

In my opinion, 50€ is a good price for digital games. I won't buy the game before it drops to that price level.

^ You can record with the xbox app provided in win 10, but i did not try yet. screenshots work though.

so i cant record in this game either? i mean, wtf...gears is the only game where the dvr actually works? fml

You can record with the Xbox app. It works fine for me, however the end result is highly compressed and by the time I makes it to YouTube you're looking at 720p30 with tons of compression artifacts. The results are not flattering. For example I grabbed this the other night (I guess very extremely minor spoilers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju7kx5P4_jU

GHG may not believe it but it looks drastically better actually playing. (Ignore the clumsy play; my four year old smashed my gaming mouse and the replacement just got here yesterday. When used to something decent, old Gateway oem low dpi garbage can be a challenge.)

Firstly, I've not once accused you of shilling,
"Come on now, you're not fooling anyone."

Never said the DF breakdown was hyperbolic nonsense. It was specifically reactions in this thread and the other one I was referring to, and I gave examples of claims that have been made. I've stated several times now that there is a bunch of bullshit they need to improve. But the game is very far from "unplayable". To me "broken unplayable mess" means something else entirely. Yes, to me that type of statement (which many posters who have briefly popped in and out have taken as gospel over the past few days) qualifies as overblowing. You disagree, that's fine.

You can assume I just have low standards if it helps. I'm probably done with this topic until we get more from Remedy and/or a patch.

Speaking of... on topic.. anybody ever able to discern anything about this alleged 1.5 to 1.6 patch? I noticed no real difference, and no there is still no Quit or Exit button...

Welp..caved in and bought...fucking incredible. loving every second of it. perfomance does suck ass on pc though, its terrible, but game is fucking great.

Should I even bother? I would like to play this at 1080/30fps.

No chance in its current state.

I'm currently at the dock level and the stutter I'm experiencing is unlike anything I've ever seen. 980, 4770k, 16gb of ram (and nothing uncessary running in the background), game installed on my Wester Caviar Black 7200RPM.

It never stuttered anywhere near as bad until that point.

That may be an HDD/SSD issue, as DF reported.

Maybe, but shouldn't this problem have manifested before ? The area I'm in does not seem expensive at all. Even weirder, my HDD led does not go crazy.
Yeah, you'd think. I didn't have a problem at that point with my SSD, but it could just be some more bad optimization. :(

Has there been any comment from Remedy whether or not a patch is in the works?

The game was patched a couple of days ago already. The release version was 1.5 and the game is 1.6 now. No patch notes though
because why would we need them in our PC gaming, right?

Here some shot of these "bad" in game assest, all gameplay shots:

In-game assets aren't bad, it's just rendering them in such a way that it's hard to see this behind all the blur and the stuttering.

Performance has not improved or decreased on my end. Whatever those patches were did nothing.

Anyone tried this one with GTX 770 2GB?

I'¨ve seen some YT videos claiming it runs well. And I've read that it runs horrible so anyone here tried it with 770 or similar card?`

On Act 5 now, so I figure I'm going to beat this shit today. I'm been loving the hell outta this game in-spite of the problems, which has only made said issues more annoying lol. If I could have a consistent 33.3ms then my experience would have been so much better. The bad framepacing interferes with the combat and overall exploration so much. I'm able to put up with all this jank and still have fun, but man I really shouldn't have to do that. This is absolutely a sub-optimal experience, which is why I would not recommend the port to anyone. Really hope this game can be patched and improved so my second play thru can be a better experience.

It really feels like this is a fantastic game that is being held back severely by technical issues. I dig the story, the characters, and the overall aesthetics greatly. But the inconsistent performance and muddy IQ suck the big one. Really wish I owned an X1, because then I wouldn't have bothered with this fucking port.

The price in the Australian store has dropped by $10 to $89.95(AUD). Which is kind of hilarious because it's still more expensive than other AAA releases on Steam, retail, etc.

Although a big part of the problem is it's only available through one online store with no retail release so no shopping around like you usually could and no price competition from other retailers. If you only looked at one store it's expensive but no longer crazy I guess.

Still, other titles aren't only available from one store so I don't feel the need to pretend competition doesn't exist. Not sure why they even bothered really. Has the price changed anywhere else?

The game's unplayable on anything with less than 3GB VRAM right now.
It sits between 2.8 and 3.1 GB usage on my 970 with High textures. What happens on medium or low? I can possibly check when I get home. But do you have a basis for that blanket statement, and this use of the word "unplayable"? Just want to make sure this isn't FUD (a la the "unplayable on a 980ti type claims made elsewhere).

It's dropped slightly in Russia now. ~£35

Very nice game from the little I have played so far, but the image quality is horrendous. Blurry, and the motion blur or whatever it is supposed to be looks more like LCD monitor "smear" when they have a high response time. Pop ins, stuttering and very low fps for a game that doesn't look that advanced.

That's a solid "nope" from where I'm sitting (France). 70€ (That's $80!)

Outside of all the technical issues, who the hell decided on this pricing model in Europe an other non-USA territories. That's probably the most ridiculous aspect in all of this.

It sucks. I really wanted to give it a shot despite the reported performance issues, since it looks like so much fun, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna put down twice what I usually pay for games on a trainwreck like this one.

I've been taking regular looks at the B/S/T thread trying to find people who'd ordered the XB1 version and were selling their Windows codes on the cheap, but I was wondering: Does anyone know whether Windows Store codes are region-locked?

I would say no one knows because no Windows Store codes have been sent yet.

I wouldn't put it past MS to tie them to accounts yet, prohibiting third party sales. This release has been one calamity after another so it could still happen.

EDIT - UK price is down to £45 too.

70€ in Portugal

It's a solid nope.
The game has been cracked and in Torrent sites. Microsoft should clearly rethink their pricing strategy.

It's the same in rubles, the conversion rate could've gone down though, it's pretty volatile these days.

Yes, every benchmark I've seen claimed that the game is stuttering so hard on 2GB cards even on low preset that it's unplayable. Considering that it's stuttering as hell even on my 6GB 980Ti I tend to believe that.

Could you please do?

The "unplayable on a 980ti" claims aren't really FUD. I've only done up to the docks in act 2, but there's been more than one time I've had the game dip into single digit FPS territory, if not totally lock up for a few seconds then keep running. I haven't been monitoring due to UWP nonsense, but it wouldn't shock me if the game has memory leak problems, making it unplayable on any card unless you have enough RAM to brute force your way through the leaks.

Seriously, what in the hell could be keeping them from distributing the W10 preorder keys? I can hardly even wrap my head around why it wasn't just tied to your account anyway being a digital-only deal.

The game's performance on PC is unfortunate but this hilarious key situation is the thing that'll definitively push me away from the "Xbox + W10" stuff.

i want to know if the original price was a mistake or they intentionally had the higher price to squeeze a little bit more money out of the first day buyers.

That sounds like the issue with non SSDs harddrives Digital Foundry pointed out.

Exiting the game and launching it again fixed it for me, pointing towards a memory leak indeed.
A fast mechanical hard drive is enough actually (Wester Digital Caviar Black here).

Such stuttering and lockups is a sign of incorrect resource management usually - something which the DX12 renderer must do by itself now while in DX11 this was done by the driver. This is basically a confirmation of the game's renderer being crap as there isn't much NV can do with resource handling in DX12 - that's the application's task now.

When asked if the texture pop-in could be addressed in a patch, Remedy's PR rep Thomas Puha said no. "That just unfortunately is a quirk of our graphics engine," he said in a Tweet. Texture pop-ins occur when ugly low-res textures serve as placeholders and eventually snap into the high-res textures you're supposed to see. The graphical ghosting issue can't be fixed, either: "Ghosting is just a result of the temporal reconstruction. Just the way we render things," Puha said.

Performance can be fixed, however.

Sounds like he's referring to the Xbone version. No where do I see the PC version mentioned.

That applies to the PC sku as well. I'm not expecting their reconstruction technique to be made optional, nor do I expect ghosting to go away.

Stutter and performance however ? Yes, I don't see why they would not be in a position to improve that.
