I'd give it a 6. It was good but most of the games were not my cup of tea. Other than Kirby eating a car, the most exciting announcement to me was Portal lol. Haven't played that in years so I'm kind of looking forward to the Switch version. I'm also interested in No Man's Sky since I never got around to it on the other consoles/PC.

Best direct ever. That's what you get when you don't blow your load into the twitter ether every other day. Looking forward to the COD direct a couple months from now.

Yes, and I think thats the conclusion Nintendo wants us to make. With MK 8 DLC lasting until the end of 2023, that sends a clear message that Switch 2 will only launch in early 2024 at the earliest.
and then they will remaster/port the game with all of the dlc to the Switch 2 and sell another 30 million copies.

Like I said in the direct thread, I thought it was a solid direct. The only issue is that they didn't have any mind blowing announcements. This honestly felt like an oldschool ps3 e3 show with all the Japanese games they were showing.

Direct was mostly a bunch of ports, sports, and DLC therefore it was unappealing to me. Xeno3 was really the only thing of interest here.

I'm glad a lot of people are happy though!!

They don't need to revolutionize mario kart for a 9th iteration for crying out loud they just need new graphics and maybe a minor gimmick with new tracks. It's how it's always been ; they don't need to reinvent the wheel.
I would say the same, if they didn't raised the bar so much with MK8. A standard sequel would be underwhelming imo.

Thought it was lousy. I don't play rpg's so that was half the Direct down the toilet for me. I'll buy Portal & the MK8 dlc but the rest doesn't interest me. One thing that really stood out was the Assassin's Creed collection. The Switch is really showing its age, they looked horrible. Same goes for that baseball game, lo-res and choppy.I guess the MK8 dlc release schedule pretty much means we're not getting a new console for at least another two years.

It was great, an 8 for me.

The best thing about it was probably that almost all the games they showed actually have release dates this year and look finished. Even the ones that are completely new and we had no idea about like Strikers and Xenoblade 3.

I wish more big devs planned their releases like that. Imagine getting The Last of Us 3 or a new Uncharted announced this year with a release in a couple of months..

Was fairly decent without their big hitters. Something for everyone in there. I thought the internet was going to break when they announced Earthbound.
Switch is showing very little signs of slowing down in 2022. They are trying to recapture so much of that 90's famicon feel.

I thought it was really good and imo Nintendo is going to pack some serious heat in 2022.

Also the fact that Xeno is September makes me think they have one big hitter left for October, not necessarily BotW's sequel but something significant.

It looks like I might buy a Switch game every month for the coming ones, which is insane.

7/10 for me, the ending was a downer. Metroid or Mario would have made it a 9/10.

Mario Strikers and Switch Sports will be huuuuuge.

XC 3 was a megaton.

And even if it wasn't my cup of tea, Switch Sports is gonna be big if the game ends up being good and well marketed.

I'll give it a solid 8, whilst I got rid my switch a long while ago, I always enjoy watching the shows to see what may come to Xbox. (like Castlevania Advance collection)

Highlights for me:
Klonoa Phantasy Reverie series - insta buy xbox

Chrono cross Remaster - insta buy xbox

Kirby forgotten lands - looks excellent, will buy for my missus, as she loves the look of it and hopefully sneak in a playthrough for myself too.

Mario kart 8 deluxe dlc - you honestly can't argue about the price or value, long overdue though

Live A Live - looks pretty neat, Nintendo exclusive I think?

Xenoblade 3 - looks really impressive for a switch game, further cements how bad Pokémon arceus looks.

I give 8/10.

Xenoblade, LiveAlive, NoManSky, Kirby, Getsu, Switch Sports are a good value. Mario Kart's new circuits are good, but I'm not sure for the price, the same for Mario Striker, it wasn't that good on GameCube.

I've enjoyed this direct a lot. Had plenty of games for Nintendo fans, and Mario Strikers getting back in the thread kills everything.

Really loving almost everything they showed up. The new FE Warriors, Mario Strikers (Finally!), the Mario Kart 8 new DLC (Finally!!), seeing more footage from Advance Wars, Xenoblade 3 and how surprising and refreshing the new gameplay stuff on Kirby. It's just a lot of great Nintendo stuff for this year.

Also we got a few surprises such as Front Misson 1st and Live A Live. Cannot say I'm not happy enought!

I was blown away! Some titles I haven't seen in ages, which I can't wait to play. Day 1 on most of everything for me. Plus the amount of Jrpgs had me in heaven, and another quality Musou title is fantastic. I'd also been waiting patiently for XBC3 for some time and to finally see it AND get to play it fairly soonish this year is a great treat. Nintendo does a great job for the most part showing and then releasing games with a few exceptions, and like others said I wish it were the norm. I give it a 9. Kirby is looking great too. I get why some might not have liked the show but as for me it was amazing.

XC3 is in between star ocean and final fantasy in the megaton department. The direct had tons of games that I am going to buy it is just not any that I'm going to go crazy over.

I'm kinda shocked that they added only one more sport to that game. It isn't my cup of tea as well so I don't really know how well it will do.

Gave it a 7, but that's basically the "I'm not burning my hands on a 6 or 8" of ratings. Fuck 7's.

A good solid Direct, not too focused on one game or Genre and seems like a bit of everything for everybody, a bit too long on Switch Sports, a game that really should have been a launch title tbh. 48 new MK8 courses is a welcome addition, I was talking about it with my son and came to the conclusion that this is a better thing to do than a straight up Sequel, MK8 plays fine, looks fantastic and it being Switchs best seller, makes a lot of sense, I sub to the Expansion Pack anyway, so having that as part of it is great!

There is a renewed focus on remakes and collections as well which is kinda nice, I do like a collection on the same platform (I wish Zelda got one tbh) Klonoa wasa great surprise, I loved those games on PSX so definatly checking those out

I was surprised of the lack of:

  • Zelda
  • Mario
  • Silksong ( Where are the updates to this game? )
  • Metroid, aside from the defiantly not touching, but gonna enjoy watching, Dread Difficulty

However I feel like these are being saved for after Kirby and Splatoon 3, Nintendo likes to space things out, something that I fel works for them, I loved the look of Kirby, reminds me of Mario 3D Land a lot

Although it reminds me, I really need to finish Xenoblade Chronicles 2, only put a few hours in at release (never played the Original either), Octopath Traveller, start FE: Three Houses and finally tackle Eathbound

Chrono Cross/10.

I'm so conflicted on that remaster, but everything else was pretty great, I thought. NMS on the Switch was a pleasant surprise!

9/10, it was already very solid before the XC3. Love the variety in announcements and the rapid succession of trailers. No wasting your time with blah blah nonsense.

Nah, XC 3 is definitely in the top tier announcements, right there with Zelda, FF and such.

Awesome direct, one of the best in years, looks like Nintendo are going for a huge total with the Switch hardware, would not expect a new Switch until late 2024 early 2025 at the earliest, and the Switch looks like it will have the best twilight years of any Nintendo console, even the mighty PS2 and DS will be looking over their sholders. ;)

As soon as I saw that you could shoot golden eggs in the pit or pass them to teammates like basketball, I knew Splatoon 3 was going to consume my life. That's such a hilarious trailer that only huge fans of Salmon Run would really get excited about. The new bosses look fun as well. Going to play that probably every day for 3 years.

Microsoft and Sony are busy spending billions, meanwhile Nintendo is making and fostering a whole hoard of fun games.

And to think there was nonsense from some on this forum like, 'wot if Sony by nintendo?!'

Plus, you lot complaining about the lack of Zelda; do you also eat a whole pack of biscuits and the complain that there are no biscuits?

So... you're saying that they should milk it?

MK8 serves the Switch (and served the WiiU) extremely well and pushes it to the limits as it is.

This pretty much sums up why it's not worth Nintendo trying to rush a MK with decent changes onto the already maxed out Switch:

I'm pretty sure they already work on it, just that it needs more time in the oven (and possibly a Switch 2 launch title?) and I'm fine with them not rushing it.

I mean lets put things a little into perspective. By the end of 2023 Mario kart 8 will have roughly 100 race tracks. Thats insane. During the Gamecube-era Mario Kart games had 16 tracks. Even the Mario Kart Wii's 32 tracks look tame in comparison. And that's not even mentioning how much they perfected the mechanics that it even makes other good kart racers like Crash look B-tier in comparison. It's also still one of the best looking games on Switch and a technical marvel.
Now the thing is, if they just do a standard "bigger, bolder, better" type of sequel... it will be underwhelming. They can't go back to 16 tracks. It would be ridiculous. Even 32 tracks would be kinda lame. And what about the retro tracks? They almost used all of them by now, unless they re-re-doing it, but that would be, again, underwhelming. Mario Kart 8 set the bar very high, so high in fact, that a new one really needs to something fresh for the series. They can't take small steps, it really needs to be a revolution for the series. It needs a strong gimmick to make it stand out compared to MK8, because otherwise I could just keep on playing MK8. Better graphics are definitely not enough at this point. It needs something really strong and substantial to build interest. Maybe a level editor, maybe a full on story mode with cutscenes, maybe they make it the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate of kart racers, maybe they will make it a service game. Whatever it is, it won't be easy to trump MK8 and a standard sequel won't be enough.

Yeah, it's unprecedented. The Smash Ultimate of kart racing. This will make MK8 one of the all time greatest racers ever released.

How did you know I had eaten a full pack of biscuits, then complained about it. thought I had kept that under my hat.:)

An absolute 10/10 for me (or even more!).

Some may say "it's a bunch of ports and re-releases", but man, whenever I see a re-release of old games on Switch I feel so good, there are so many games I didn't play for reasons that I'm happy I'll have to chance now, but not necessarily on Switch because I'll mostly get them for PC when possible, i.e.: I'm hyped for FrontMission remake, never played it and didn't know it existed till yesterday but seems so much my type of game <3

Everything else is just my taste: Nintendo + JRPG <3

Curiously enough, I'm basically the only one I know that's not excited by Kirby, like... cool I guess, I may be getting it in an offer or so lol

10/10 for me. This direct really had something for everybody. And the really big games for this year weren't even showed!

I have decided to sell my PS5. Managed to grab one last December, but it's only been on a grand total of 2 hours playing Astro's Playroom. I've been spending my time with Mario Odyssey, Metroid Dread and Civilization 6 instead. Since I'll be abroad for 3 months soon and I have a friend that desperately wants one, now seems like a good time to sell.

But the underlying reason is that I'm just not excited with AAA-games on PS5 anymore. They all seem boring and playing them feels like a shore. All the talk about acquisitions, subscriptions, games as a service, VR, etc leaves me cold. Nothing that comes out this year on PS5 excites me and I cannot find the motivation to play the games I did buy.

But this direct rekindled a spark. Not everything, but those remakes and remasters of old JRPG like Live a Live looks amazing. And the Switch is really the home of turn-based strategy games, my favorite genre. Incredibly hyped for Front Mission and Advance Wars. And I'm even tempted to get Kirby to play with my kids.

Were there any non- sequels, spin-offs, remakes, remasters, ports?

So, out of ALL of these games there are only three new games. One is entirely new (Triangle Strategy) and the other two are MP games (Lego Brawls and the FTP Disney Speedstorm)
Not good Nintendo at all!!! We need new IP's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT.....

It has more game diversity and support.

Especially good quality and mature games. I didn't have that on Wii, not even on Wiiu.
