Yeah, I'm playing this and Trine 2 at the same time. Both have been wonderful 2D experiences. Makes me want to start a 2D appreciation thread!

Picked this up the other day, and I'm liking it so far. I really like that it's structured like a an old-style platformer, but uses some more modern ideas once you get into playing the game.
After playing (and liking) DKCR and NSMBWii, I'm really glad this game did away with the contrivance of lives. They just don't fit in today's gaming landscape (at least not in a game that isn't a score attack) and they seem especially silly in a game where a "game over" is really just a 5up.
The lack of lives, combined with the frequent checkpoints within a level (most of them, anyway) really allows this game to put in challenging sections without being completely punishing. You always feel like you can make that one or two more jumps/dodges/whatevers and make it to the next checkpoint. To a certain extent, each level almost feels like 4 or 5 Super Meat Boy levels stuck together to form one big level.
If I have a complaint, I wish they'd mix up the environments a little more early in the game. Instead of playing 6 or 8 levels in a row in the same environment, it would have been nice if you'd go back and forth between them some. I understand why they went the way they did, but I'd have preferred that they mixed it up a bit.
Still, I'm looking forward to what this game has to offer later on.
got to the halfway point. i'm beating levels with everything in one go and then going back for the speed runs. world 5 is pretty awesome, and pretty likely the cutoff point for what episode 1 was going to be.
the treasure chest level of world 5 was considerably easier than the level preceding it too. i was surprised when it ended so quickly.
Only the halfway point? You must be taking your time. It gets so much better.
Well I finally finished the game last night and have to join in with the praise. This is quite honestly one of the finest platformers I have ever played, sublime visuals, crazy music, silky smooth controls, fiendish difficulty balanced with infinite lives and far more levels than you'd expect.
The little touches - such as the "oooh"s every time you discover a secret area - are what takes it up a notch though, the game feels like it has been hand crafted with care and without any outside pressure to tick the mass market boxes. It's disappointing that the game has sold so poorly, most likely due to Rayman's long absence coupled with absolutely no marketing to push it under everyone's noses - something that sadly seems to have become a reoccurring issue with Ancel's games.
i wouldn't be surprised if the early game was basically their finished episode 1 when it was still going to be an episodic game, and then when it gets crazier, it was when development switched to make it a retail game.
Picked it up from the $20 TRU sale, wife and I made it to world 2.
Actually a lot of fun, and has awesome music. I don't care for the interaction between characters, way too many times we punch each other and screw something up.
I was told that the 360 version is also 2.0 stereo despite the box label, but this is incorrect right? Only the PS3 version is stereo.
Can someone with the 360 version confirm it plays in real, discrete 5.1? (not pro-logic ii, or 2.0)
Well that's hilarious. The box puts out a 5.1 signal (because 2ch output is not allowed by MS) but only uses the left and right channels.
No rocket science here just use your ears. There is nothing coming out of the other speakers.
And please add this info to the OP. I'm so tired of reading that the 360 version has the advantage of 5.1 sound...
Did the Tetris stage demoed at E3 made it in the final build? If so which world is it?
I use the d-pad for the normal levels and the stick for the flying ones.Just a quick review: did you guys play with stick or D-pad?
D-pad all the way for me (PS3 version). Kinda curious how the D-pad and sticks on the Vita are going to feel, probably sticking with D-pad on the Vita version as well.

I was really glad I made this choice when I reached the water levels later in the game.
D-Pad for the regular levels, analog stick for the water and flying levels - I can't comprehend how anyone could complete a mosquito level using the D-Pad.Just a quick review: did you guys play with stick or D-pad?

I just switch to stick when in water and use the D-pad for the rest of the game.Stick. I tried both out a little when first starting the game, but the analog stick felt more natural.

All the nonsensical singing in this game is glorious!
Is this the same on both 360 and ps3 then, does it run 1080p on ps3. I think i might prefer the ps3 version due to the better dpad.
sorry for the lttp question, as i'm sure its been addressed ad nauseum somewhere in this thread, but is there a "fix" of sorts to pass the pirate's treasure chase level?
