What are you going to do on your first play? I'm going to head to the edge of the map.
Do you know what are there, invisible wall or something? I'm just curious coz GTAs are island maps but RDR is not, right?

I'm not even sure, I've tried to stay on a black out so I don't know much about the map but it sounds like a good place to start. Maybe it's mountains? Or the sea? A giant swarm of bears? I've no idea and I'm so pumped just to explore with friends.

Rivers, lakes, high mountains and deep canyons keep you in the map area.

Seriously, these people need to get a fucking life. Who gives a shit what the resolution is as long as it looks decent and plays well.

Just skip over all the sub hd text in threads. For some reason, people have to bring it up in every thread now. All these 360/ps3 games look good now, stop with the bs.

Yeah.. that's why you chose to stay silent when folks were questioning him in the alan wake thread yet so quick to point out Mazingerdude's credentials in here..Lulz indeed.

Oh I chose to stay silent in questioning him in AW because of what. :lol

Because I knew he was right and I state in here he usually knows what he talking about, but yet question the source material because of the shoddy shots. boo hoo. I'm done with this conversation. Don't bring my name up again.

I just watched Brisco County Jr´s finale again it has a hidden message after the credits that says it looks good on the PS3! Confirmed!

Please argue resolutions elsewhere :p

In all seriousness though, 540p with no AA would be a huge disappointment for a 2010 game. A lot of us play our games on 1080p TVs >42" and a game with RDD's visual style will really suffer from poor IQ on setups like that. It's a legitimate complaint and if it turns out to be true, R* deserves a fair amount of criticism for under-delivering on the PS3 version. This sort of shit really shouldn't be happening 4 years into this generation.

With that said, I'm not going to cancel my pre-order or anything, the game looks fun as hell.

Sid Meier's Pirates!

Good game, too.

But... yeah. No one has really made an attempt this generation.

I think it would be cool to get a game like RDR/GTA based in Feudal Japan.
I have that, PC & PSP, it's not a good remake and is 6 years old. and it's nothing like GTA in sea:lol .

He didn't say it's definitely 540p, he wasn't sure, it's probably similar to GTA IV.

I personally can't see why this game would be lower-res than GTA4 and the Episodes; the engine, while looking great (thanks to a better setting and art direction), doesn't push as much geometry as GTA4 at all, and despite the huge draw distance, the environments are pretty barren.

With that said, I don't get why people seem to be up in arms about it. The game seems to perform well on the PS3 without tearing, and reports still say the game looks great. You guys need to take a chill pill and enjoy games for what they are :D

Nope.
Only New Austin is. Nuevo Paraiso and finally West Elizabeth open up later.

No idea how it keeps you in though. Lack of a bridge and/or boat perhaps ?

Probably because GTA4 = Rockstar north. RDR= Rockstar San Diego.

Honestly though, I don't see a pirate game on the scale of GTA/RDR translating very well. Long sailing segments and all that stuff.

Wind Waker was good, something like that with large scale naval combat.. must have for me.

Also, fuck resolution talk. Let's watch some multiplayer footage.

Quote this post for the hidden link.

I got it to work, but yea pretty low quality. Although I just found a better quality feed through it.

Shoulda known RDR PS3 would be sub-HD considering their complete reluctance in showing that version. I wish the developers wouldn't lie about the whole "there is no lead platform" gimmick, it's clear it was led on 360.

San Diego created the engine, so I doubt it'd perform worse in this game. :) Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I'm not too worried (just yet).

Mexico is blocked by the river that runs between the two territories. West Elizabeth is connected to the starting territory by two bridges(if you look closely you can make them out on the map) which aren't finished or are blown out until later in the game.

Sub par ports made by lazy developers who can get away with it because they know the game will sell on hype alone?

:lol Don't have a 360 so I need to put up with PS3 ports. Either way, if I could handle Bayonetta on the PS3, I don't think RDR will be a problem.

540p seems a bit low and a bit premature considering the weak source image it was based upon. If the PS3 version is indeed sub HD then the resolution is likely going to match that of the GTA IV expansions.

Ride my mule to the nearest woods, walk around til I find a grizzly bear, and punch that bastard in the face.

I don't think I've seen you comment in a thread that wasn't about the PS3's technical capabilities. This isn't a criticism but do you work for Sony or something?

Enough with the nagging about the PS3 version, jesus christ. Don't tell me that GTA IV on PS3 SUCKED ASS or something, because it didn't. I've played both versions, and the difference is way too small to complain about. You graphics whores should stop playing crysis.

Not Sony, but for a component supplier inside of the console ;) Anyway, I'm just more interested in the technical side of games then the actual games themselves :)

So, is there a consensus on which version is better? I hear the PS3 version has extra content, but I have more friends getting the 360 version... Any technical superiority?

If you don't have the 360 version running side by side next, it wont matter just like GTA4. Buy the version that your friends will be getting because ultimately the online will be the thing that will keep this game alive for a long time.

I'm out, let the PS3 people cry until the game comes out and then the 360 users can reclaim this thread and restore it to it's former glory.

Read the last couple of pages.

I disagree. It was an okay game. If you take out the long sailing segments, what you get is a good game.

Well, if you played actual games some more, you might eventually be able to get the hang of inverted Y axis - the superior choice ;)

That's nice, just initially thought it was a little bit odd that's all.:D :D :D

I'm still trying to decide if I want to use normal or expert aiming. Expert aiming is well kinda tough. There is absolutely zero auto aim and it becomes quite difficult when hunting or when surrounded.

Normal mode snaps you to a target for a few seconds and you can then strategically place a few shots if you want by moving the reticule around. The lock doesn't last forever though if your enemy is moving, meaning you would need to snap back to the target again.

For the folks playing it so far are you using normal or expert aiming? I like a challenge but at the same time I want the balance that is most enjoyable.
