The 0-10/100 scale is massively flawed in that sites are not consistent with their use of it. Be that because the reviewers are different from game to game, because there's some kind of meta context around different games (sites are much more comfortable to throw sub 50 reviews to Focus Home or Embracer output in comparison to Ubisoft for example - or even that some games from big publishers don't "matter as much as others), and/or because humans are generally not consistent when it comes to this kind of thing. Vibes play a role, even with reviewers I respect. All of this throws a wrench in the quantitative aspect. Which is how you get this game sharing a score bracket with Forspoken.People need to wake the fuck up and stop giving professional game reviewers a single, solitary fuck.
That's never really going to go away, so I'm not too offended by it. What I am offended by is the lead up to this game. How many previews glossed over these fundamental issues? They all lapped up and propagated the demonstrable lies about the gunplay being sharp bro, and this being some immersive sim spin on Far Cry when it's clear third rate Back4Borderlands. Nobody challenged the bullshit narrative that somehow, fundamentally single player design tenets could be maintained and catered to whilst also satisfying multiplayer hard and soft design requirements.
There's a lot to say about this, especially with the narrative switch up about Microsoft not being involved with this game (lmao), but there's definitely a massive malpractice point to make about the games media. I've never seen such an obviously bad game get this extent of cushioning before shitting the bed even worse than expected.
