you can't put a price on sparks
When people are starving on the streets, we will tear down the streets so they don't have anywhere to starve

Oh come on now, GAF! We all know the good old G.O.P. is just trying to make sure that people look after themselves in the American fashion! Figure you take away that safety net and these intelligent, hard working American citizens will start working and make new small businesses and create jobs for other hard working Americans to do the same!

All you've gotta do is take away that sense of entitlement and people'll just start doing everything they need to do! /s

This is a smart idea, all those temporarily displaced millionaires will now do what is needed to become actual millionaires, and then they will in turn create new jobs which will create even more millionaires.

See democrats, THIS is how you create jobs and wealth in America!

That...doesn't explain much.

I really dont get how republicans have any sort of political power in your country.

Their base love those buzz words, basically. And they spread them around all over the place. They know how to get at the hearts of the people. They use those buzzwords that bring warm feelings to their base, while at the same time they are projecting fear into them. Fear from the "other" that are trying to destroy america.

There are just so many bootstraps in that budget!

They actually cut funding for those as well. The expectation is that people will use their own. Fortunately, Wal-Mart is raising wages by like a while dollar an hour so help is on the way.

Oh wait they want to abolish the minimum wage too.

I'm not exactly a political person but as an outsider looking in I really dont get how republicans have any sort of political power in your country. Based on some of the shit I read they should just be regarded as elitist lunatics who dont get any say at all.

They entice the very people their policies harm the most through issues such as same sex marriage, gun control, abortion, and so on. Basically, social issues.

It's madness. They call Obama the worst president ever and genuinely believe it.

SHOCKING NEWS!!

Republicans would sooner have everyone in this country starve to death before cutting the military budget and ending the wars they're so addicted to spending money on. Gotta keep on sucking the collective cocks of their military industrial complex overlords.

Europe has so much shit to deal with on its plate, that fucking hideous monster of a currency they've created, trying to find common ground between 28 very different countries who in their histories were in conflict, creating new institutions to address all these discrepancies. It's a really really complex thing to do.

We on the other hand, institutionally could easily fix our issues. Our hole isn't nearly as deep as theirs, yet i feel more optimistic about their situation than ours because of how bitter and deep the ideological divide lies. I know alot of you are going to bring up the growth of cancer like the FN as an analogous phenomena, but quite frankly only this december is the FN is likely to gain signficant seats, this kind of cancer has permeated both our houses and roughly 50 percent of our population for over a decade(or longer). I just see no end in sight or light at the end of our tunnel. I guess one can only hope for some kind of second coming of FDR or something...

Yet they'll still get a bunch of poor and/or rural whites to vote for them. It's amazing how they get away with doing absolutely nothing for anyone who isn't wealthy.

I'd be 'fine" (well not really) with all of this if they took the position of raising the minimum wage and making college significantly cheaper to offset the cuts on benefit programs.

They take the position of "bootstraps" and "hard work" but make it so incredibly hard to actually do those things. Let's give a whole generation a $8.00hr wage and put them into a $50,000 hole before they enter the work force. Yeah, that will help American going forward.

Benghazi, Mavericks, Joe the plumber, Swift Boats, Emails..

The same way any group gets power. They formally or informally support the needs of a very large group of people.

At the federal level Republicans suck but at the state level they do a lot of good work but a lot of that good work is for a set of declining demographics.

Poor republicans are like racists, who literally don't think they ARE racist and resent being told they are when they do racist stuff. So when poor republicans think about poor people, they think of them as "others."

Temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

The sad thing is, there are tons of poor republicans. They're duped into voting against their own self-interest every time. They see themselves as millionaires who are temporarily poor.

Yep. It's either this or religious/social conservatism that keeps them coming back. Honestly, it is really sad. Part of me wonders if these candidates truly believe the religious/social stuff or if they just use it to get votes.

If you need help to get to college you should be in jail.

I think he meant paying for the education, not getting to college.

Religion.

No, really. Dems are more pro choice and pro gay marriage, where as the Republicans are the exact opposite. I've had family members tell me who feel "both parties are the same" but will 10/10 times vote Republican because they favorite God and traditional values.

A lot of people care more about religion values in a candidate rather than their policies.

How people can vote against their best/personal interest continues to befuddle me. Even if you were against certain issues shit like this should make you say no more. This + Voter ID Laws...
.I can't wait for the primaries.

This will make our country so much better. As soon as this budget goes into place, the lower taxes will cause all the job creators to go on a crazy hiring spree. Everyone will be hired!

Except the people that cannot afford a college education or trade school.
Or the people that have physical and medical issues that they cannot afford to treat.
Or the people that are too hungry because their benefits were cut.
Or the single parents that can't afford day care for their kids.

For everyone else it will be glorious.

The party of petulance, selfishness and greed. This budget blows my mind, as does the general popularity of the Republican party.

You guys seriously need some sort of watchdog service penalising misinformation, propaganda and the the promotion of hate, xenophobia, racism or whatever else in your television news broadcasting. This goes for all the outlets, not just Fox News. The purpose of the news is to accurately inform in a non-partisan, neutral way, not to propagate a specific bias ideal or narrative, freedom of press or not. I feel like Fox News and similar outlets are destroying entire generations of Americans, some of whom are likely too ignorant or reliant on specific and limited channels of information to know better.

Not only this, but if you feel so strongly on abortion and gay marriage issues, then you're more inclined to feel like the other party is evil, and thus probably wrong on everything else. You then make a lot of mental contortions.

Because Americans tend to get really bored when things are progressing in a positive direction. Ebola and ISIS helped win the 2014 midterms for the Repubs. Their entire electability hinges on how much FUD they can forcefeed the public. Terrorism, war, poor people taking your hard-earned cash increasing in numbers, guns being taken away, churches being forced to do gay marriages, etc.

The long-term blowback will essentially destroy the Republicans as a viable political platform for a generation if not more

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
The Republican party is a cancer on this country. As jaded as I am with the Democrats shit like this is why I still vote every two years.

amazing implementation of gerrymandering

while the results are abhorrent, from a political engineering standpoint ... what they did was genius

^^^^Same here buddy...

Dude damn near 3/4 of the cuts come from low to middle to income people. Good luck running on this budget during a Presidential election. The entire DNC is out buying charcoal and flaming young in advance of the grilling next year. DNC has to let Joe loose on the campaign trail just once. I'm talking about the only Joe that matters: Joe Biden.

They couldn't force the wealthy to carry some of the burden? They're losing the college vote by cutting pell grants. Obama vetoes this faster than the idea of Sarah Palin speaking at the CBC. The second he reads cut Obamacare then it's over and we have another debt ceiling debacle. What hostage will Republicans take this time to get what they want?

Except it won't, as many posters have alluded the base largely votes on ideological principle rather than policy. Ineffective policies and track record have not stopped the base from sticking to the party. The only thing i can conceive to get us out of this mess is demographics/mexicans in the long run. They also aren't as daft as some would paint them, i don't think they would ever do something too drastic as cutting medicare, sounds more like posturing and pandering to their employers lol.

Accelerationism should not be encouraged on this kind of scale.
I fail to see a viable alternative given current districting.

This isn't as simple as 'republicans bad, vote them out of office'. Majorities don't work ... you need a much higher percentage.

The pain needs to be sufficiently bad in order to either get a proverbial super-majority, or to get enough dems into office during a census to redistrict sufficiently so popular vote has an actual meaning again.

But the base is actually a minority.

Republicans actually lost the popular vote overall in Congress during the last elections ... yet still took seats in the House and Senate. We need to get Dems into State legislatures. The only way that seems viable though is if Dems actually get the message out so plebes understand how to fix it, coupled with the pain being sufficiently bad for people to actually have the motivation to do something about it.

That is still an if. Some of these republican supporters won't listen to reason, and people shouldn't be put through hell (repealing ACA) to try to get a point across. Wouldn't be surprised if the blame was put primarily on Obama for any of the fall out.
