ink ribbons really messes with me.

I'm a save maniac. I need to save at every point I come across.

I think I had 125 saves during my first RE4 play.

I've gotta say, after reading everyone's impressions so far I'm getting some real nostalgia here for this game. The last time I played the GC version was back in 2002 in my parent's basement on an old tube TV. It was so long ago I remember almost nothing, I feel like I'm going to be playing this for the first time again!

I know that feel. Rotate your saves and only save when you find a new area or made a lot of progress. They give you a decent amount of ink ribbons from what I've seen.

I always find that I get too stingy with the save ribbons in the old RE games, and I end up with like 20 unused ribbons at the end

It should be for some days, at least is what I read.
And I underline again why having a cross-buy as a "preorder" feature is imply bad. Because people having both PS3 and PS4 won't buy the game again on the other platform, so cross-buy should be a default feature.

Thanks man. I'll probably buy later when it's available, if it's really cross-buy.

sounds like the very easy mode (difficulty option #3) drops ink ribbons like candy

a friend got 6 ribbons from one pickup, has only been playing for about an hour and has 15 ribbons

Ok, a few glimpses into the PS4 version... This shit is amazing! Loving it! Great work Capcom. Looks very clean and the new 16:9 is great.

The sound of this game is pure porn people. Just played first time with my headset on. OMG! Never without it again! This will be a great weekend. Can't wait.

I can sorta figure out how balls out crazy it must have been to first have played RE games with fixed camera and then RE4 happened and you can headshot people.

Here you can only hope for the best.

And no QTE stuff :D
or maybe?

Wasn't Chris hardmode and Jill Easymode Last time (original for sure + I believe Remake) , with Jill (although optional) being the generally accepted main character with Chris the alternative playthrough?

Not sure if I have read this correctly, but Chris is easymode and Jill hardmode this-time in ReMaster and quite a few bits of media PR is chris-centric?

Just an observation potentially wide off the mark, although curious if it is a marketing decision if correct.

Same, I can't recall ever running out in any of the games that use them. I also tend to over hoard ammo and have much more then I need at the end of the game.

I have caught Resident Evil syndrome in other games too. I always try to kill things with the lowest quality ammo I can so I can save the better stuff for something tougher. This can result in me never using the best weapon on my first play through a game.

These are better links to the mod as these pages will be updated (also the first download link I posted is a temporary link):

How does this work? Does the exe detect a door scene and just skip it or something?

It changes a small bit of code in the game. It basically makes the game think that when you start a door animation it's supposed to already end the door animation.

There's a few issues though, the biggest one being a looping sound you get when using a lift near the end of the game. I haven't been able to fix that so far.

PlayStation users in US should be used by now to Grace Chen Time. So, any time between now and midnight.

Keep in mind the 10% discount this weekend on PSN, to save $1.99! :p

Not sure about Xbox.

Watching my friend play it because I already beat it on the GCN.

He's playing on Easy (the setting that is in the middle) and he used up all of his ammo on the first two zombies. Died at the mansion key trap and screamed bull shit when he had to reload a save. Then he cursed again when he saw that he has limited saves. Then he opened the front entrance and got assaulted by dogs.

I give him tips and directions when he gives up. He just got the real mansion key though but he has no more saves so he has has to play at a stretch until he finds some ribbons.

He says the game is suspenseful and tense but very cheap due to game design (cheap as in unfair). He's playing on the new controls and the only RE games he has played are RE4-6.

This has definitely become true but its mainly just perception.
At the time of REmake Jill was the main character of the series, though Code Veronica had come out before REmake and was setting Chris up.

Its all about Chris and Leon these days, while Jill has been declining since RE3.

Oh dear, I think I chose the second option, does that mean I'm playing the game on hard and is there a way to change it to normal?

The way the options appear are:

Normal
Easy
Very Easy.

Hard is unlocked once you beat the game. And no, you can't change mid-game. But you're playing on Easy

I'm super on the fence. I'm not a fan of digital only, is there a chance Capcom will "Ducktales Remastered" this game? As in release digital now and release a disc a few months later? I want to bite and $19.99 is a good price but I don't want to get burned if a disc does get released...
I used to loathe digital only but since I got my PS4, I made the switch. The Last of Us, New 'n' Tasty, Ground Zeroes and now Resident Evil are all titles I downloaded.

You're making several contradictive statements and now I'm confused.

In the PS1 version the character selection was literally the difficulty selection. They removed it from the western versions but all japanese releases actually had Hard written under Chris's card in the character selection and Easy under Jill's.

They tried to move away from this with the remake, making them more even, though overall Jill can still be considered somewhat easier, just not as much as in the PS1 game.

Storywise the canon is a weird mix of both scenarios though most games seem to focus more on Chris being the main driving force.

Top 3 on Steam sellers lists as well. I hope this performs well for Capcom. All things considered, the PC version, and the remaster in general, are very well done.

I hope it does well enough that they consider doing something with Zero, 2, 3 and CVX. We need those on PC in an easy to download and play form, even if it's just polishing up the PC releases of 2 and 3 and putting them on Steam or GOG. Obviously remakes would be ideal, but I go over hoping for those ages ago.

Zero would be the most likely candidate. It's an underrated game IMHO. It'd be nice for it to get some more attention with a rerelease.

The birth of mainstream media and target-marketing I guess. I played pretty much all them, including the originals on the first consoles, as they came out, inc the remakes (only reason I bought a gamecube at the time tbh) so I was kind of puzzled to see Chris in alot of the media and the hardmode/easymode switch - this bit deffo sucks a little for minor Nostalgic reasons (and the fact we could do with more Female leads, not less, albeit the whole concept is perceptive) but I guess this switch will give another fresh approach on the playthrough.

Just gotta decide Ps4 or PC, need more excuses to turn on the Ps4, was hoping this was it.
I added another line, hopefully that clears up any ambiguity.
