I couldn't play RE7 or RE8 being first person, felt sick and I generally don't like first person. I just hope the 3rd person mode feels like classic RE as RE8 looks off being in 3rd person as it wasn't designed for it.

The Gamespot preview says 3rd person is much better than Village. The game is still designed for first person tho, but it sounds like both are adequate

Looks like they are keeping things close to their chest currently trying to avoid spoiling later stuff but it sounds like the usual begining with most RE titles these days. Engine sounds like it's improved more with lighting going by the use of the lighter per gamespot's impressions. Need to wait a few months for the proper stuff.

If they give you the option between the two, the game is built with one in mind first and then the other one they do a "good enough, eh it works". You cannot design a game for both 1st person and 3rd person, like you cannot design a F1 car to compete on fuel efficiency with a Corolla.

I really prefer a singular vision, it's why I don't like modern controls and classic controls in SF6 for example. Build the thing really well for one style gameplay I don't care which. Half-measures aren't satisfying.

Tank mode must be disabled on 3rd person view, otherwise it's a tank. I don't see a deference between Nathan and Robocop this way.

This is where im at. I definitely prefer 3rd person but it felt awful in Village and I won't play that game except in first person.

That said, I'm willing to give Capcom the benefit of the doubt since it seems they're trying to implement both from the get-go. Maybe they can get the feeling right for both. And if not it'll be obvious and I'll just play RE9 in the view that feels like its meant to be. please let 3rd person feel good

I agree. Watching 3rd person RE8 footage, looks like the character is just stuck on the screen in front of you. RE4 Remake felt you had some scope around the character and the camera panned well around it.

I'm thinking surely it's got to be better than RE8 3rd person as each bit of gameplay will be made and checked for both modes constantly. You'll get that constant refinement throughout the development of the game. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Interesting note from Max's video

You can change perspective any time between first and third, but the game "recommends" you which one to use depending on the scenario. Eg in the Hide and Seek scenario (the one he likens to Alien Isolation), the game settings say "First person recommended".

That's a unique approach.

Now, the only downside with that is that the ability to change perspectives should be seamless, you shouldn't need to go to the menu to do it every time.

Is it open world or not?
No, so far seems that as usual Dusk Gollem said were lies he made up.

What they played were just some rooms and small corridors in a vintage Racoon City building similar to the first RE games. No open world, no Leon, no Jill, no Singapore, no island. You play as a new protagonist and now can switch between 1st and 3rd person camera without weapons and with a Mr.X/Dimitrescu-like big monster chasing you around spooky localtions while solving small puzzles.

Maximillion likens playing the Grace portion of the demo as playing Alien Isolation.

I'm intrigued.

That sounds awesome. As someone that grew up loving RE, it's great to see the series continue to move, but I of course would love to see it do better. I thought Village was fine, but I hope this lands better and harder. Sounds pretty promising so far.

Game can recommend whatever it wants. I'm all in on TPP.

Ahh, another shitty "stalker" enemy to get in the way again.
Having X follow you around in 2 dynamically creates tense and hype situations, I think they did a great job with it. Nemesis wasn't as well done, but that goes for nearly every element of the re3 remake.

I called it that it would make use of both. That's what they are likely touting as their "new advancements" in the genre.

I really like this approach.

Can play through in third
Replay in first
Replay with recommended between scenarios

Gonna be a blast!

Yes, this is getting redundant.

Yeah, that seems like an unfortunate choice.

Gut tells me I don't expect any Stalker enemies to become a huge thing and probably will be like for one or two specific areas due to being trapped or other like how it is in the preview. RE:4 felt refreshing without any STALKER enemies for a change and would like that to be the case for the majority of the game. Let it have some rest for a while.

According to the Playstation hands on blog.

"Fresh off Resident Evil Requiem's reveal, I joined Capcom for a shudder-inducing gameplay presentation before diving into the terrifying preview myself. RE9's first innovation comes straight from the options menu — players can choose whether to step into Grace Ashford's shoes in first- or third-person perspective with a simple toggle. It's a choice that ensures players will get to confront oncoming horrors in the playstyle they prefer.

As for Grace, the section running on PS5 Pro opened on her waking to every girl's worst nightmare — strapped to an upside-down hospital bed in an unknown location with her blood being drawn from an IV. While scared of her surroundings, the resourceful FBI agent frees herself and explores the dark halls of what reveals itself to be a chronic care facility. Shadows looked hauntingly crisp, and every corner and step invites deep breaths and scared shudders from Grace — a valid response, especially since I was fully shouting at the chaos she faces while working her way through a gated hallway. A promising overture to the horrors to come.

I never realized the camera mode was so contentious until RE2R came about.
One of my favourite games of all time is REmake 1 but to this day I still think the initial mansion section from RE7 is the single best piece of content ever put out by a Resident Evil game and it's not even close, and the first-person perspective was a huge part of that.
Hearing people say that they hated it in 7 and Village kinda surprised me considering RE7 was so popular that basically it single-handidly revived the franchise. Myself included, by the time Operation Racoon City came around I had already given up on RE games despite loving the early ones and RE7 made me fall in love with the franchise again.

Yeah I'm not too keen on the toggle thing, something has to give.
If it plays like a FPS then the 3rd person will be limited or hampered by it.
If it's built round 3rd Person and just had a perspective change and everything is intact, that would be better but it's gonna feel weighted and awkward to see what's going on in FP.
They should just do like RE4, 3rd Person with VR
the actual FPS gameplay is shit and no-one like it, VR is the way to go for that perspective as it lifts some of the limitations of the FPS view and limit controls.
VR actually adds to it while the FPV tend to hamper and draw you out of the immersion when you're running on the spot stuck on a box you can't see in the floor.
What I will say is from the screenshots I've seen they have a very RPD vibe look to them.
it looks like Resident Evil.

From the Gamespot video.

You can turn all the lights and lamps on/off.

Looks like a perk of being current gen is that this might be using RTGI.

I need to try the 3rd person mode in RE8, but I'd imagine RE9 will be similar and if I recall, the reception to that 3rd person mode wasn't glowing.

First person games make me sick.

It's the fast camera movement that causes it.

Third person games have the camera slowly adjust when you turn corners which helps.

Third person in this is servicable and enough for those who get motion sickness when playing in First-Person. I couldn't play it all the way like that and was happy with just first. I do think it will be much better with 9 no issue.

1st/3rd person can be a tough task because of the differences in animation. I'm thinking back to games like Thief: Deadly Shadows.
